NFL Week 10: Bruce Arians Gonna Revive the Kardiac Browns
« on: November 06, 2018, 10:34:13 PM »

Also in minor news, Detroit fired their ST Coach (a carryover from the Caldwell era). Detroit has allowed a 20.6 PR average off 10 punts and rank 21st per Football Outsiders and 29th in Punting.

Dez Bryant is back with the New Orleans Saints. Not sure how big his role could be as there are a lot of mouths to feed in that offense: Michael Thomas, Tre'quan Smith, Alvin Kamara, Mark Ingram, and Ben Watson.

He'll definitely be an upgrade at the WR3 spot and push Ted Ginn back to a more beneficial WR4 burner role when he gets healthy.

Falcons signed DE Bruce Irvin to a one-year, $1.5 million contract. He reportedly chose Atlanta over New England and Pittsburgh, which makes sense as he's played under Dan Quinn in Seattle and should have an immediate impact for the Falcons defense.

Surprised Dez got signed, I figured he was never going to this season.

All I keep hearing is how this benefits DEZ. We're 7-1 without him and didn't have a big dip in offense when Ginn went down.

I'm skeptical.

The Saints get a big middle of the field target, especially at the goal line. I see it as better for them than him.

I'm hyped about tonight's Panthers/Steelers game. After last week's Mullinsfest I want something competitive.

Since my last post, Cameron Meredith was put on IR.

Signing has me less "old man yells at cloud" - ish.

I mean FFS there's two WRs on the Practice squad that have contributed just as much as Dez, Meredith, and Ginn (since going on IR). Why not promote one of them at league minimum instead of going after vets that cost a little more (even at veteran's minimum).

They probably can't keep a hold of them longer than this season if they come off of the squad. And they don't want to lose them to someone else.

So fucking stupid, but that's how things are run in the NBA.

First quarter over at the Meadowlands. Bills 14 (186 total yards), Jets 0 (1 total yard). This could be the end of Todd Bowles.

Holy shit. Zay Jones has 8 receptions. Wasn't he like the guy who had the most receptions in the history of the NCAA? Do you mean to tell me he's remembered how to catch a ball?

Saints wound up signing Kirkwood off of the practice squad and he had two receptions today in the Saints route of the Bengals. For some reason Spotrac has him listed at LB.

Nick Bosa, a WR, and an LB. Can pretty much guarantee it.

Jets announced that Todd Bowles will remain the coach for the rest of the season.  Mainly because they feel no one on the staff is a "suitable replacement" at the moment

To be fair, I don't think the team has said anything yet, rather it's the reports coming out. And they're not wrong that there likely isn't a suitable replacement, but it sounds like they don't want to make drastic changes until year's end, to not stunt Darnold's development. I don't necessarily disagree, but Baker losing both Hue and Haley says hello.

I said it in the offseason, but I have no idea why they changed OC. John Morton last year had a fully functioning offense with arguably less talent than they currently have, injuries and rookie QB aside, where there's going to be a learning curve. It was a bad sign from the get go when there were rumblings that the Jets had to convince their QB coach Jeremy Bates to take the OC job, as he was said to not be interested after Morton's dismissal.

Edit: And not to defend Bowles, but seeing clips on ESPN this morning of Rex yelling about him and the state of the Jets is comical considering he had pretty much identical embarrassing losses in his last year.

Jordy Nelson is retiring.  The injuries just took too much of a toll on him.  He was sure fun to watch in his prime.

Tampa Bay had 500 yards offense and only scored 3 points. It's never happened before. Ever. What a shitshow.

Quote
Davis told ESPN after he received league approval to move to Las Vegas that he wanted to leave the Bay Area with a Super Bowl title before departing. Now, though, the team is closer to an expansion outfit than a contender. Davis said his goal to win a title was made before another draft class yielded little, if anything, in terms of foundation components and before the team imploded in Washington last year on prime-time television.

"That's when I felt a big turn in this organization," Davis said. "I don't know what the hell happened, but we got destroyed in the game and it just seemed like the team never picked itself back up.

"Someday the story may come out. I don't have the full story."

As the owner, he was asked, shouldn't he know the story? Wouldn't he want to know it?

"Absolutely, because I've never seen a team change that quickly," he said. "And the Raiders stand for social justice. So to see any type of division is really hard for me."

Jason La Canfora is reporting that John Harbaugh may be out of Baltimore after the season. Baltimore's gone 1-4 since a 3-1 start to the year and last won 10 games in 2014 and 2012 (the year they won the Super Bowl).

No matter how down I would be about the Packers, watching him throw pick sixes would put a smile on my face.  Godspeed, Peterman!

As everyone expected,  Hue Jackson appears to be returning to the Bengals in some fashion,  potentially serving in a assistant head coach capacity while Marvin dedicates himself to operating the defense.

This season is done. Between the defense being god awful and the injuries to Eifert and AJ Green, I think they may have a tough time getting to 8-8. Real shame because this offense looked really awesome the first four weeks of the season.

I'm not even going to comment about Hue, I will say that if the Bengals hire Hue as the next HC, I'm out.
