Christmas Songs: What Are Your Must Hears?
« on: November 18, 2018, 04:44:45 AM »
Working my way through remastering songs for my eventual XMas Mix CD but Johnny Mathis' "Winter Wonderland" is one of my favorites for the vocal performance but god damn if Cocteau Twins' version isn't all Wintery and so, so good. I did a quick remaster trying to balance the instruments a bit, push the vocals forward more, and slow it down a smidge.

I hate christmas music so much, so my musts are to avoid all Christmas music as much as possible.

Sorry to be THAT GUY.

It’s weird. I love the Christmas season so damn much. I get actual joy walking through Christmas departments in stores. But I hate the music equally as much.

I'm Jewish, but I love Christmas. I don't like music like Little Drummer Boy, but I like the more upbeat songs. I love anything by Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

I'm not in the Christmas mood until I hear "Christmas Wrapping" by The Waitresses.

This. Also, I will go to the grave loving the original version of "Santa Baby" and I feel no regrets for it either.

I work in retail so starting this weekend I’ll be hearing 8 hours of Christmas music a day for the next month.  So I’m pretty much in this same boat.

The entire Phil Spector's A Christmas Gift For You is the best thing he ever did (almost makes up for all the bad things) but this is my favorite song of all-time (not just a Christmas song...I love this song and only this version, foh Bon Jovi)

I used to collect "weird" Christmas music, so much so that I actually tracked down this flexidisc because at the time it wasn't uploaded anywhere online. It didn't disappoint. It's Blondie and Fab Five Freddy re-working "Rapture" as a Christmas rap song....

"I never saw a Santa Claus wearing sunglasses..." is a line I say very often this time of year. "Do the Patty Duke" I say all year though.

John Waters has a great Christmas album that introduced me to this classic...

It was also performed by Bon Jovi and released on the A Very Special Christmas compilation album produced to benefit the Special Olympics. It was replaced on later pressings of with the song "I Wish Every Day Could Be Like Christmas" also performed by Bon Jovi.

Yes, maybe a song about a horny Santa Claus wasn't a great thing to include on a charity album benefiting the Special Olympics.

My girlfriend was complaining yesterday about one of her friends calling "Hallelujah" their favorite Christmas song and I was like "WHAT IN DA HAY-ULL!?" (tm Booker T). Then today on Twitter, I saw someone else complaining about people thinking "Hallelujah" was a Christmas song.

WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE!? What is wrong with them!? I want to meet someone who calls "Hallelujah" a Christmas song so I can throw a rock at them. HOW CAN YOU THINK THAT IS A CHRISTMAS SONG!?

Now I have "Hallelujah" stuck in my head and my afternoon has turned into a sad montage in a '00s movie. SMDH.

I have never celebrated Christmas, but this is my favorite holiday standard...

There's also this charming lil' ditty...

Hail to the King...

Update: I guess Pentatonix covers "Hallelujah" on a Christmas album which makes me want to throw a god damn boulder at these people now.
