San Diego = Mike Martz, OC - Mike DeBord, RB - Lamont Jordan, WR - Az-Zahir Hakim, DC - Larry Marmie, DB - Eric Allen

Harley's Thoughts: It's clear that this league is gonna try riding the "names" of the QBs and HCs. Everything about this screams NFL-Lite and my concerns about the coaches panned out. Too... NFL-ized outside of maybe Steve Spurrier and in order to make a league like this work, you really need some type of offensive innovation to make it truly different.

The USFL at least had Mouse Davis' Run & Shoot (which ended up being the offense of 2 teams in that league by its end) and this league you have Spurrier's Fun & Gun (which is now pretty pro-centric anyway), Erickson and Riley's Single Back Offense which is nothing new now, and Martz.

Also not sure how it'll go with it being so South-heavy. There's almost zero relatability from any football fans in the Northeast, Midwest, or Northwest really. The AFL of the 1960s was perfect because it had a widespread geographic imprint, had offenses that were ridiculously vertical and pass heavy for the era in a complete contrast to the NFL, and they took pride in being that contrast to the NFL itself.

If this didn't have such a CBS/NFL push behind it, this would scream XFL wannabe without the uniqueness of that and I think Vince's new league will at least (again) be unique enough to offset this league.

BUMP: Doing some digging and Hal Mumme left Memphis as OC which screams that Singletary didn't want to buy into the offense completely. Worth noting that some of the others on the staff include QB Coach David Lee (architect behind the Wildcat explosion of the late 00's) and DC Dennis Thurman.

Here are some of the notable QB names: Aaron Murray (Atlanta - Protected), Garrett Gilbert (Orlando), John Wolford (MY DAWG!!! Arizona), Christian Hackenberg (Memphis), Logan Woodside (San Antonio), Scott Tolzien (Birmingham), and Zach Mettenberger (Memphis)

This reads like a list of ex-NFL Busts and good College QBs who couldn't even make it onto an NFL practice squad (guys like Blake Sims, Marquise Williams, and Matt Linehan)

sigh

Does anyone want to give me money so I can start a football league?

I might go to the home opener of the San Diego Fleet. I really miss Jack Murphy/Qualcomm/SDCCU Stadium. Their home games start at 5PM, which I'm not a fan of. Hopefully the games are under three hours.

Looks like Orlando Apollos tickets start around $20 with every game except the closer against Birmingham on Saturday night at 8PM.  I might consider this, but I'm going to watch on television first and see how I like the product.  I wouldn't be able to go until March anyways.

It does, but there are definitely some aspects of it that I like.  The pace is good.  Limited commercials.  Fewer flags than the NFL.  And I like touches like having the replay booth mic'd.

Definitely better than the old XFL at least.

I don't think Christian Hackenberg is a very good pro QB.  You may even call him....a hack?

That's from a fake account.

Besides, it's not like anybody can unseat Hack from his starting role.

The AAF reached out to Colin Kaepernick and Tim Tebow, but both declined.  Tebow wants to continue playing baseball and Kaepernick said he wouldn't consider playing football again for less than $20 million a year.

Very boring 2 PM game between Salt Lake and Birmingham. If this 2nd week doesn't start getting offenses going, I can see people quickly tuning out and moving on. It's not even entertaining in a bad college football way.

It also doesn't help at all that there's been almost no penalties being called. It's one thing to let players play but no flags just leads to shitty football where receivers don't get separation, holding gets notoriously bad on both sides of the ball, and teams struggle to move the ball down the field on their own consistently.

EDIT: Two blatant penalties (holding and a horse collar via dreads pulldown) don't get called. LOL. I'm done with this league since they clearly are worrying more about "pace" than actually calling penalties properly.
