Still surprised Angry Birds Movie 2 was one of my harder misses. Nice to see Scary Stories do so well although kinda sad the Dora movie didn't do better than it has thus far. Probably should've been a special Nick TV Movie type thing.

Nice to see that the Peanut Butter Falcon has some legs here. It probably will be out of the top ten next week but honestly I was pleasantly surprised it got mainstream enough to even make the top ten ever.

That was one of my absolute favorites of the year. Jake Roberts had a heck of a brief performance as this grizzled vet who has a chip on his shoulder.

That's pretty surprising for Rambo.  I was expecting it to barely crack the top 10.

That's pretty surprising for Rambo.  I was expecting it to barely crack the top 10.

What were you expecting to beat it? A bunch of movies that have been in theaters for two months, already? I mean, look at the movies ranked 4-10: only It and Hustlers have been out for less than five weeks. If anything, I'd call it an indictment that it only made what it did: in terms of competing against "fresh" blockbusters, it ran virtually unopposed, and it still got beat out by #sixseasonsandamovie, and something I'd never even heard of.

Yeah, I think Rambo was projected to do about $25-30 million, I think so that number is moderate to major letdown.

I feel like a 4th Rambo sequel would have done a lot better if it came out 5 or 6 years ago in the wake of The Expendables series. In this day and age, I don't think anyone wants to see RAMBO take down Mexican drug cartels except Brody and MAGA Chuds.

I was a bit surprised that Ad Astra didn't win the weekend. I guess DT Abbey has a really strong following though, so not a huge shock.

FWIW, I really enjoyed AA, although I've heard mixed reviews on it. Most calling it tedious and boring. To that I say that it was just following a space movie formula of sorts in that context. It built well and had some strong themes going on. There was a bit of a tripped out what the fuck is happening vibe similar to 2010 A Space Odyssey and many other space-themed films. Visually speaking too, it really delivered in the IMAX format.

Nah, it's too long and these sequels to old shit are banking on fans that don't really exist. I still haven't seen it, but I will!

Most of these high grossing movies are over 140 minutes so I don't think it's length. Every movie attempting to make money is too long. The Shining isn't as big a hook to casuals as It or Halloween , but I think it could've opened to 20 mil around the appropriate time for horror and maybe if it was treated as big. I barely saw commercials and I didn't see that much advertising besides a trailer here and there. Horror that comes out in November and December usually bombs.

I wasn't expecting it to be huge or anything, but Charlie's Angels bombed horrifically and is estimated to bring in 8 million for the weekend. This is the second time this decade they've tried to reboot it (the 2011 tv series that got cancelled after four episodes) and both times have been a disaster. I don't think anyone including women were clamoring for another take on Charlie's Angels.

That’s a whole bunch of screens for Cats to make that little money.

I'm not shocked because no one was in the theater when I saw it (opening night) and the lady taking my ticket was taken aback that I was presenting her with a ticket for god damn Cats. That said, I believe this movie could become Rocky Horror level of people going in costume to yell at the screen and throw shit. It isn't just a bad movie. A bad movie to me is unwatchable or boring. This movie is 180 degrees away from boring. Not saying you'll LIKE it, but you will at least be entertained.

Also, they've already retooled the movie to fix CGI errors. Apparently it's the first major motion picture to be recalled/adjusted AFTER its wide release. The errors weren't glaring when I saw it (blessed to have seen a part of movie history like this) but I do recall some scenes that looked unfinished for sure. There's a shot of Judi Dench online where they didn't CGI her hands and so she just has human hands including her wedding ring. That's the price they pay for choosing to CGI every inch of the performers.

id only want to see the version that didn't have the errors fixed. If I'm going to see a truly awful movie I want to see the FULL awfulness.
