Vince Carter announced the 2019-20 season will be his last.

Will he be the first NBA player to play in four different decades? I know it's been done in MLB and NHL but I don't think it's been done in basketball.

Kareem (69-89) missed it by one more season.  Lots of guys played in 3 decades, pretty sure VC will be the only one to hit 4.

They'll offer big money to Russell most likely, so that contract plus one more.

I read somewhere that Kyrie is actually leaning towards Nets instead of the Knicks.

Also  hot take; The Hawks might be good (at least by second tier of the Eastern Conference standards) next season.

To add to that story, if the Knicks miss out on both guys, no one is being brought in and they are going to be aiming to pick up people in the draft.

George Blanda (1949-1975) and John Carney (1988-2010) did it in the NFL. Tom Brady was drafted in 2000 so he just missed a chance to do the same, although Adam Vinatieri can be the third player next year.

From a new Chicago Tribune piece on Derrick Rose

Quote
Rose nearly died twice as a youth. At 9 or 10, he mistook a cup full of bleach for water and drank it. And on Independence Day when he was 12 or 13, Rose and a pal thought it would be entertaining to throw lit matches or cigarettes in the gas tank of a long-abandoned tow truck. Out shot a flame that badly burned Rose’s friend

It was weird seeing him as anything but a Spur but he thought he had more in the tank.

He went to the Hornets to play with Batum, so France is still represented.  Funny thing, when I went to the Nike Store when I was in London, they had the Batum jerseys among all the superstars and it took me a minute to figure out why his jersey was there.

There's another report saying that if the Lakers trade Kuzma they might be able to keep the pick lol. The Lakers would have around 25-30 million in cap after getting Davis, so maybe they can get someone like Jimmy Butler to take slightly less than the max.

Butler wouldn't take anything less than the max. It'll probably be Walker you end up enticing for less than the max.

If the Pelicans manage to snag, Ingram, Ball, Kuzma and whatever else they get from a third team, in exchange for Davis, I honestly think long term, the Pelicans win. Assuming Ingram and Ball are fully healthy.

Well, yeah, it's a win for both teams. The Pelicans would lose him for free otherwise or take players like Jaylen Brown who aren't ever going to be anything great. Davis on the other hand would be a Laker for life.

Wonder if the Bulls would jump in and be the third team available and try to get Lonzo. They seem really interested in him and they said themselves the only players that they aren't putting on the market are Markkanen and Wendell Carter Jr. I'd dangle number 7 in there. I'd rather have Lonzo then the Bulls doing something like drafting Cam Reddish.

There is now some talk that the Bulls may trade Lavine for the 4th pick, which would make this thing happen.

That's what I was assuming when they said that everyone but Lauri and Wendell are trade bait. Lavine for 4 I'd be fine with although I like Zach a lot. He's only a one way player which unless you are at an elite level only gets you so far these days.

Bulls aren't trading Lavine for the 4th pick. Get the fuck out of here with that Zach Lowe.

Bulls management actually think they are close to being a good team. They only feel they need to address the PG position. They finally found out last year that Dunn is no better than a backup PG. They already allegedly gave a commitment to Coby White to take him at #7.

They are interested in Ball, but unless they would only have to give up the #7 to get him, they won't be involved. GarPax is too scared to make a big move that would basically admit failure.

Chicago knows no actual top free agent will sign here to play as long as the ownership & management dolts are still in place. That's basically why their tactic is to trade for players teams are trying to unload for whatever reason. Otto Porter, Lavine, Dunn. They feel they draft well too, so they are confident to roll probably with some combo of Coby White, veteran PG free agents, and Dunn next year.

GarPax's ultimate goal, if they know they can't contend, is to continuously be in a rebuild to keep their own job security.

There is less inherent risk to go with them just using the #7 pick and standing pat. That way if and when Coby fails, they can just use the excuse that they took who they thought was the 2nd best PG at 7th overall. They can explain their way out of that way easier than trading their SG for a rookie SG/SF that may not even be an upgrade longterm.

I think they are consistent in bullshitting you guys about signing free agents, so trading Lavine to clear cap fits exactly with their MO. It's also a good rebuilding plan to have Lonzo, #4 pick, WCJ, and Lauri as their young group. Clear out all the trash and they'd have a ton of room to sign players in the future.

GarPax have less job security when the team is in limbo than if they had a clear rebuilding plan.

Nah, they have tons of job security right now. Michael Reinsdorf likes them. Reinsdorf "doesn't understand" the hate that a lot of Bulls fans and media throw GarPax's way.  People actually like Zach Lavine in the community. Trading that dude 1 year after signing him to a 4 year contract makes them look dumb. Especially since free agents don't want to go there. It'd be just another strike against them in the eyes of any potential quality free agents. Lavine will for sure play out this year. If he has "actual" injury problems this season and not all the fake ones management created for him last year to tank, than they might try flipping him for a different guard.

Bulls do have some cap room. They really aren't trying to unload contracts unless its the bad Felicio contract.

Yeah GarPax are never going anywhere unless one of them resigns. Michael Reinsdorf and Gar's wives are best friends. Jerry Reinsdorf loves John Paxson and when Paxson tried to quit around 10 years ago, he managed to convince him to stay.

On attainable free agents for the Bulls news Pat Beverley is basically begging them to sign him

Late first round picks if LeBron and AD can actually stay healthy and they do a better job putting a team around them than they did last year.  I have zero faith in Pelinka and their front office, and you've got the potential new hire/lame duck coach with Kidd waiting in the wings

They'll get someone in FA, but I don't think it'll be Leonard.

Still better off than the Knicks though who got fucked by KD's injury, if that was even going to happen.  I don't want Irving either, so they're basically at square one.

Kemba has already said that he wants to stay in Charlotte and would take less money to help the team build, so while at this point last week I thought it was a lock he'd leave, now I'd be surprised if he doesn't say.

Pelinka actually is hated by just about every other GM out there so I'd say that's more why I'd worry about his ability to get things done.

I will say though that if the Lakers don't win the title in the next two years, this trade was awful. That's a lot to give up for just one guy.

If Kemba's staying with Charlotte (wtf, why!?), Kawhi may stay with Toronto (remember he's bought a house, trying to trade mark "King of the North", will have be given a free condo and food for life for staying), Kyrie seems to be heading for the Nets, Durant probably wants to not be associated as riding LeBron's coattails... I don't think I like the Lakers odds of getting someone are good.

I would be shocked if he actually stayed when a team with a big two wants him to be part of their big three. Absolutely SHOCKED

As for the trade, beyond simply being AD, the Lakers rebounding and free throw shooting last season was ATROCIOUS. All those guys they traded cannot shoot free throws. This fixes that.

I like the LA/NO trade for both teams. Obviously with Jrue, Zion, the 4th pick, and other potential high picks (let’s face it. Lebron and AD aren’t always healthy) they could be set up nicely for the future. Plus with 2 first round picks a year for the next few seasons those can be great trade pieces as well.

And it gives LA a short window to really have a chance at a title. Don’t know how much longer James has left, but they needed a big move to even have a chance.  Better for NO than LA ultimately obviously.

The picks aren't every year because the NBA made rules about that.

The Pels are set up nicely, but they aren't attracting a free agent and will have to max out Ingram next summer. Josh Hart is a bum, but they got two players who I think might be great, but one of them does have some major flaws that will not be corrected. Lonzo cannot, and probably will not ever be able to shoot free throws at more than a 50% clip. They will not win a title and the Lakers will, quote me.

The Lakers should try to sign Patrick Beverley to the MLE and sign Jimmy Butler to be the third man. They can fill out the rest of the roster with ring chasers from there.

Think this trade is alright for both teams. I like it for the Lakers, they can't take the chance with a guy getting to UFA like the Paul George situation. I also agree with 909, between getting an MLE guy and a #3 max or close to max guy this team can become a Top 1-4 team in the West if the major players stay healthy.

With NO getting Ingram, Ball & Hart they get serviceable rotation guys with some upside. BI will be a little tough, because he gets really rich quick and they get a real small sample size with him. I do like though that they have an established good player in Holiday and if Zion can be an instant impact guy, then the Ball/Hart/Ingram triumvirate can settle into a little bit less of high expectations they had before LeBron and much less pressure of playing with LeBron.

Love that LaVar is going Dan Gilbert route, worked out pretty well for him.....

I love Ingram, but yeah that's exactly how I feel about all of this. I think BI will be a star, but I don't know that he and Zion work very well together. The picks are apparently this one, a protected 2021 pick, and an unprotected 2024 pick. Then there's a pick swap in 2023. I think Davis will be on the team at least as long as 2024, so I'm not sure of the value of those picks.

Gotdamn. As long as the Lakers win the title it’s ok, I guess.

The Pelicans will get the following picks from the Lakers, league sources tell ESPN:

No. 4 pick in 2019
Top-8 protected in 2021, becomes unprotected in ‘22
Unprotected swap in ‘23
Unprotected first in ‘24
Unprotected swap in ‘25

Tremendous haul for David Griffin & the Pelicans.
