Brown's agent said they and the Raiders had been talking about his helmet since March. If this dude didn't play for the Raiders you'd be eviscerating him for pitching a needless fit over a helmet issue, one that was previously known for months.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/27419343/agent-says-ab-helmet-concern-safety-issue

Rosenhaus said it's a safety issue because AB "feels" unsafe.

You know how to read, right? Even though he was going to have to change his helmet over the course of the next year, the helmet wasn't banned until last week. He was also allowed to change it to a newer model and the NFL up and banned that on Sunday. It says pretty clearly in the article I posted that Rodgers and Brady had a year to change their helmet after it was banned, the same standard should apply to everyone else.

I think there's been similar conversations on this board when players don't do anything in preseason. It doesn't matter until it's one of the 16 games that do matter. Yeah, let's send the dude out there with a helmet he isn't comfortable wearing so that he can get brained in a preseason game or at practice. That's clearly in the best interests of player safety. There are also clear differences in the helmet models someone can wear, at least there were when I played.

It isn't just Raider fans who think this.

Preseason and training camp is when this shit gets straightened out. In the regular season? I would want them to put him on NFI for his fucked up foot and get out of paying him entirely.

They are arbitrarily applying the rules, so I wonder what happens after that.

Between the Josh Gordon reinstatement and Brady getting the one year grace period on the helmet, this really isn't helping the NFL's "there's no conspiracy toward the Patriots" perception.

From what I gather (and sorry if I'm repeating stuff) AB's helmet wasn't part of the original batch that was banned last year and those players (including Brady and Rodgers) were given a year to find a new one.  I guess they just recently put ABs model on the list and he was expecting the same year grace period,  but the NFL suddenly changed their minds.  If that's true, then he does have a case and I don't know why they just don't make it a simple clear policy.

I was always under the impression that it wasn't a year long grace period for helmets that go on the banned list, but merely pushing back mandatory use of approved helmets until 2019 from what was originally 2018, this giving effectively a league-wide grace period of one season for every player.  I could be wrong, however.

Seems like there was a bit of a Grandfather clause for the 2018 season but Brady did try wearing a new helmet before going back to his old one for the duration of the season: https://www.si.com/nfl-new-helmet-rules-approved-prohibited-models-tom-brady-drew-brees

Quote
Six of the 10 "prohibited" helmets cannot be worn in 2018; the other four—three Schutt models and the Riddell VSR-4 that has notably been worn by Patriots QB Tom Brady—can still be used by players who wore them in 2017, but not by new players.

Here's the 2019 list of helmets

If they only put AB's helmet on the list like a few weeks ago, then yeah. I can see why AB's so hot and bothered on the issue. That's a pretty shittystandard thing for the NFL to do.

I told you guys. This is a non-issue, in terms of him actually playing football. If they don't approve his helmet he'll wear another one.

In actual cancerous news, we have

There was talk here this summer that he was going to pull a Bell and not play all season. The Chargers should just pay him, but they have the advantage of having two other talented running backs and don't really have to.

Ekeler's had some success and they also saw how seamlessly James Connor filled in for Bell last year with Pittsburgh. I'm sure they think Ekeler and Jackson combined can make up for what Gordon gives them. Hard not to fault them for not wanting to pay Gordon the money he wants with the Bell/Connor precedent.

That's exactly why they shouldn't pay him.  Also, he's not Bell or Zeke to begin with.  Gordon is nowhere near as good as they are.

Former Notre Dame kicker Justin Yoon took issue with Nagy harping on Parkey's 43-yard miss. The Bears repeatedly in the offseason program called for their kickers to attempt field goals from 43 yards.

Firstly, this shouldn't be illegal.

Secondly, maybe I'm biased because I was his friend, but I don't see how they could get a conviction out of this. Someone broke into his house and the cops came to respond to an alarm call. While there they found coke. How do they know it's his? The cops come to check out your house after a break in and they put a charge on you? Only in America.

Obviously they couldn't arrest him right away but the coke triggered further investigation that I guess dug up something that warranted an indictment.

Seriously? C'mon man... The cops can't disregard something that is breaking a law regardless if they are investigating something else.

"Sorry guys, don't mind the dead body in the corner!"

Also it's in his house, so it's in his possession. Same as if some junkie left shit in your car.

He wasn't home

If a junkie broke into your car and you had never been back to the car by the time the cops were searching it, you'd probably get off in the end.

Field conditions are so bad in Winnipeg that the Packers and Raiders are sitting everybody and they are forced to play on an 80 yard field.

I didn't watch the game (yet), but apparently he was "hurt" twice.

Packers lost https://heavy.com/sports/2019/08/packers-raiders-equanimeous-st-brown-injury/ to injury. He was a draft pick last year, probably headed for the exit door.

It sounds like St. Brown escaped with a high ankle sprain, but quite frankly he was being out played by Kumerow, so this could be a bit of a blessing in disguise.  I really think Kumerow has earned more playing time and should be the 4th wideout.

No. Apparently it was also becoming a calf strain. I think he might have a disorder of some kind because his shoulder injury wasn't that bad to begin with and over the course of some weeks it turned into a completely blown shoulder that never healed.

It's real sad. Luck was really fucking good, a quarterback who already looked like a professional in his senior year at Stanford. He was positioned to be the latest all-time great Colts QB. Unitas, Manning, Luck, it passed the eye test to me when Luck was on his game and healthy even just last year when they went on a winning tear once he got up to game speed.

Colts have Jacoby Brissett, so aren't fully fucked, though they are going to have a hugely rough time.

For some reason I want to say the Colts walked into this because the line never ever kept him up right, but that could be me.

Sucks because Luck deserved better than this.
