TWIW-9/9-/9/15: WWE Goes Back to the Garden
« on: September 09, 2019, 12:02:12 AM »
This week, WWE returns to Madison Square Garden after a long absence for a pair of SOLD OUT televised events. This is the first time RAW and Smackdown have been at MSG in 10 years.

They've got big shows planned for WWE's original flagship venue. On RAW tonight: Bayley and Sasha Banks take on Charlotte and Becky Lynch in a clash of The Four Horsewomen, AJ Styles defends the US Title against Cedric Alexander, Rey Mysterio returns and takes on Gran Metallik, and a guest appearance from STONE COLD STONE COLD.

Rusev has a new look and I'm guessing he saw Bohemian Rhapsody recently.

All we hear is Radio Lana! Radio RuRu! Radio Lana!

I haven't been watching either show lately, but based on good reviews of last week and the lineup (and MSG) I'll be checking this one out

I really wanna check out Mysterio/Metallik. If given time, we could be given a low-key MOTY.

Wonder if they give the Horsewomen the main event? Only other option is Austin and the contract signing. But they could put that on earlier to go against MNF

It looks like a loaded up Raw. I'm expecting a big angle in the Rey/Metallik match involving Andrade and Dominik although I do hope we get a good match first.

I'm also looking forward to SD because Main Event Rowan was awesome last week and I wanna see awkward DBry-Roman alliance before it all falls apart.

The column recently posted to the ESPN app seems to suggest that the 4HW will main.

If I was a current WWE superstar I would do whatever was asked of me if it meant I got to have Steve Austin give me the Stunner. I mean, I'd also say this about the Rock Bottom/People's Elbow but I doubt that'll ever happen again.

I said that exact thing about Bryan when he was confronted by the Rock and was Rock Bottomed in 2012 and everyone on this board piled on me saying it was a burial. The company obviously saw Daniel as a top guy or else he wouldn't have been in that spot.

There’s a strong rumor that
Spoiler: show
KUSHIDA
could work 205 Live tonight.  Both he and
Spoiler: show
Jordan Myles (ACH)
are at MSG and Jack Gallagher is scheduled to have a mystery partner.

Travel packages opened for the Rumble in Houston but a few takeaways: there is no Takeover scheduled but another World’s Collide scheduled in its place on Saturday.

Additionally, they aren’t running the same venue multiple nights.  Meltzer is claiming they are done doing the same spot but that seems insane from a business perspective with their travelers.  Much like last year’s Rumble in Phoenix, they aren’t going to run anything outside the Rumble at the baseball park and I’m assuming they just had a scheduling issue with the Rockets back in full swing come January.

He had professed his love for NY and was at the show as he may live there still and last I knew was involved with Dana Brooke.

I’m guessing he got a pop and jersey reveal was to get some cheap heat.

rowan border tossing the plant onto rowan and all the officials was great. I love this angle so much. Even MSG is loudly cheering and chanting for Roman as a face now. Taking him out of the title picture and not having him do long promos (and the ones he does now are a bit more in line with who he is i think) have helped him a ton. This angle has benefited him a lot and now it is helping Rowan too.

I watched the last two RAWs and last night's SD.  Overall good stuff.  I can't watch the shows start to finish without breaks, but it's way better than it was a few months back when I stopped watching.  Coherent week to week booking, building up fresh faces, and matches that tell stories and build week to week.  It's not F'n rocket science.  I don't like sheepish babyface Gable, but I liked the booking of the deal with Shane and Owens and getting the win via tap.  Good storytelling there.  So seamless that I wonder if Elias is really injured...

Anyway, my big take away is I FUCKING HATE THE MIZ.  He had matches with Cesaro and Andrade, two of my favorite in-ring guys in WWE, and I skipped both matches completely because I fucking hate his matches.  Now he's going to wrestle Nakamura?  Another guy I like in a match I'll have zero interest in watching

I know some people here like him.....but why?  He's been on TV for close to 15 years now and I think I've only ever liked him in tag teams or with a buddy.  And he's a terrible, unlikable babyface.

You could say "well, Orton's been on TV forever...." yeah, but Orton is fucking awesome.  And that reminds me, the Orton-Kofi angle was really good, complete with Kofi improvising after the first table broke

Oh, and I liked the Rowan-Roman stuff......but this Bryan storyline is so off the rails.  I've been following mostly via Alvarez ranting about it.  It all began with Bryan being off tv and saying he had a big announcement, right?

Bryan can make anything work, but even he has to be like, "WTF is going on here".  I seriously doubt his pairing with Rowan was meant to turn him back babyface with no program and Rowan into a monster heel to feed to the new Undertaker.  I hope this is all a long con by Bryan, even if it makes no sense

I was going to joke yesterday about Shane putting himself in the KOTR so I laughed when it happened but I think it worked.  There was a rumor that it was pitched to have a battle royal to face Gable and Vince overruled and put Shane in.  I think that’s better.  When you want Gable as a sympathetic babyface, it does nothing to have him beat someone who survived a battle royal the same night.  For Shane to stack the deck against him, he got made to look like a star.  Will not be surprised if Corbin wins but they could put him over big with this.  I’m just curious who is pushing for him to be more stoic and quiet because he has more charisma and character than they are having him show right now.

The other interesting fallout is Owens put a tease on Twitter about NXT following the “fired” angle.  KO is not the guy is think of to get moved to NXT but if they use it for a few weeks to try to build the fan base on the “new show” while building the Shane angle, guess it can’t hurt.

Owens also has history in NXT so there’s ground there and also this probably ultimately leads to the match at Mania that really matters,  SHANE VS HUNTER.

How many times has Owens been fired or quit in storyline now?  Vince fired him in their angle in late 2017, then he got fired after he and Sami lost at Mania 34, then he quit once last year, threaten to quit again a month ago and was fired last night. And he's only been on the main roster since 2015

Supposedly they are moving back to two person announce teams with Vic Joseph as the Raw lead announcer and Michael Cole as the Smackdown lead announcer. I don't know if they are having Corey on both shows doing color, but Renee is probably done as an announcer.

Renee and Moxley live in Vegas and Renee has been coveted by some of the major sports networks already.  I could see her doing the studio show and being fine.

I hadn't heard the two man booths before but I would imagine they would go with Joseph/Graves on RAW and Cole/Saxton on Smackdown.  At first I would think they would want to move Corey to Fox as their A-color guy and make Cole/Graves their new King/JR or Heenan/Monsoon but as much as I am fine with Joseph and Graves, not sure if they would want to have that pair as the RAW team.

I know they called up an NXT talent to join the 205 recently with the rumor that Nigel is off of 205 with NXT going live but there are still rumors Cruiserweights may move nights or may get integrated into 2-hour NXT.
