New Impact Wrestling thread for the new year. They uploaded a video of their top 10 matches of the decade:

Final Deletion is #1. I thought that was completely ludicrous but thought about it more and while the entire match was ridiculous, it got them their biggest exposure and word of mouth this entire decade so I agree with its standing now. I personally would have put Pentagon/Callihan in the top 3 and good on them for including Gail/Taryn as that's legitimately one of the best woman's bouts in any company of the past ten years.

Next PPV is in two weeks. WILL WE FINALLY SEE TESSA BLANCHARD BECOME WORLD CHAMP????

10 years ago today was Impact's disastrous attempt at recreating the Monday Night Wars by bringing in Hogan, Bischoff, and the Outsiders. The entire show is on YouTube in parts.

As dumb of an idea this was, that debut episode had a few great moments (Jeff Hardy returning, the women's tag match, the main event).

Debut episode did well enough that TNA got way too overenthusiastic and made the permanent move to Monday out.

Also when did people stop referring to Impact Wrestling as TNA? Sometime after Russo finally got canned? Should I not deadname a wrestling promotion?

Yeah, the permanent move was so dumb. Impact had all the tools to not be totally embarrassed. They had a much better women's division, a strong X-Division, AJ Styles, a still-motivated Kurt Angle, and more. I'm not saying they would have won in the long run but they could have booked a stronger show to gain more viewers.

Tons of people still call it TNA. I'd say even moreso than people refer to it as Impact. I think the permanent change started back 4-5 years ago but became a staple after they were bought by Anthem.

The fact that Impact Wrestling is having a One Night Only Return of TNA sometime this year confirms the TNA name is dead

Did Kong and Hamada defend the titles, even once? I know that Ayako got injured during the match, and basically worked the last half of the match on one leg. And, IIRC, didn't Kong get fired while Hamada was out rehabbing, over the confrontation with Bubba the Love Sponge?

According to Cage Match, Kong and Hamada did defend the Knockout tag titles once against the Beautiful People on an episode of Xplosion on 2/15/10. Kong was fired on March 1st after the Bubba the Love Sponge shit and they were stripped of the gold later that month.

I guess in all of the hype RE: Tessa becoming the first female World Champion, we all kind of forgot that she is allegedly horrible to work with (and now apparently a racist too!?)

The hits keep coming

Not to defend Tessa but that was about the tampon spot, tons of female wrestler were giving Kelly shit for it.

This tweet is supposedly about Tessa too.

And Chris Dickinson popped up in the comments to say that he broke up the locker room fight, which I find hilarious.

Edit: Beyond Wrestling uploaded this match ;D ;D ;D

Invalid Tweet IDIt sure is great that Impact is not just about to pin all their hopes on this allegedly horrible (and possibly racist person) being their champ.

Then again their current champion is Sami Callihan so why the heck would assume they have any sense of judgment!?

The person who she made those comments to said it did happen, and there were other things just as bad too. So Tessa is basically a klan member.

We can all agree this doesn't hurt her standing with WWE though right? Like I have no idea what their interest level with her is but this isn't going to affect that.

I thought they didn't sign her years ago because of her backstage behavior

It's why no big nor real company has ever brought her in... and she might be done here too since one of the primary shareholders of Anthem television is Steve Harvey.

As I said in PPV thread, I don't think it'll have any effect on Impact's booking. They signed Elgin at the height of him being blackballed by the indy scene.

Impact's next PPV will be at Terminal 5 in NYC in April. That's the same venue ROH ran their shows the few years it was away from the Hammerstein Ballroom. Decent concert venue but it is HORRIBLE for pro wrestling.

I didn't even remember DLo being in Aces and Eights.  Was he still working matches at that point?  God, I'm trying to remember them now.  You had Bully as the leader and he was going against Hogan right?  Did they bring Brooke Hogan into it?

Brooke Hogan wasn't in it. She feuded with them though.

Aces & Eights was actually around the time I started watching TNA on a weekly basis. I had tickets to Slammiversary 2013 and wanted to familiarize myself with product. Great time to start, I know... IIRC, D-Lo WAS a road agent at that point and he was the backstage/behind the scenes mole for Aces & Eights.

Wes Brisco pops up on indy shows occasionally. He was in Maine last summer. Not sure what Garret is up to.

Until now, I never realized how funny it was that two members of the badass heel stables were some of the doofiest 2nd generation wrestlers.

I posted earlier ITT that Shelley is on Joey Janela's Spring Break, which is happening at same time as TNA Homecoming. Although given they are in same city, I suppose it's entirely possible, he could go on first on one show then run across town to go on toward the end at the other.

Aldis and the NWA title would be a double shot of nostalgia but I don’t know what his relationship is to the current Impact management group since he seemed to leave on really bad terms.
