The stars of AEW (and the Conrad Thompson network of wrestling podcasts minus the one who works for WWE) have hit the high seas! Will All Elite manage two good episodes in a row or will the show have us feeling seasick?

Six-man will be super fun and Mox/PAC should prove interesting. Tag title match can fuck off.

Judging from pictures of the cruise. It looks like there's a ring on the ship deck and in one of the large theaters. Hopefully, they use the former for the show. They might use both? It sounds like part of the episode was taped last week in Miami and they're using multiple commentary teams.

Mostly, I just want Joey Janela to take a bump off of the boat.

RUMOR HAS IT that Brandi Rhodes' passport was stolen and she won't be on the show. Bummer!

Also Young Bucks have written an autobiography and it's going to come out in September. I could see it being really interesting or boring af. No middle ground there.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Meh match, but the first time I can say that I didn't hate Omega in an AEW ring.

Wait, is Britt Baker a dentist?

Matches like this make me really, really miss the days when chain wrestling as poor as these two have shown would get rightfully shit on.

Marko entering while wearing WRESTLING IN a life jacket is brilliant. I don't care what anybody else says, the dude is one of the most perfectly used talents on the roster. He's a job guy nerd who exists to be the job guy nerd in a team where there's a 6'6" dinosaur with a Master's degree and Mowgli (as played by a famous actor's son).

Okay, Janela receiving the blessing from Jesus in the front was cool. I also like the chemistry between these two, with MJF going full chickenshit and Janela wanting to have a match.

Janela in this capacity is the right use of him. He's no problem bumping harsher than he really needs to in order to get people interested, so having him work with somebody where there'll only be a few highspots is the way to go.

1. Loved that Cody just walked through the smoke machines as if they weren't even there. It's such a tiny detail that made him look even better.

2. AEW remembers that its talent have formed alliances. The Bucks are out to give their pal a hand.

3. MJF IN THE POOL!!!

No dark order and no nightmare collective makes the show so much better.

Also, these drone shots are epic and should've been spliced more into the show, and not just used on the commercial splits.

Page constantly getting interrupted is smart. Omega is giving me strong RVD 1998 vibes in this promo. Now if only he was half as interesting in the ring...

Love, love, LOVE that Mox is trying his best to keep PAC to his left. A bit of a foregone conclusion with next week in Cleveland, but he's been allowed to work smarter in AEW than he probably ever has in his entire career.

Perfectly acceptable TV match, but that's about it. One thing that we used to shit on Russo/Attitude for was the brief length of matches, but we also didn't get PAC sitting in the middle of the ring for a minute after Mox kicked out of a weak cover. I'll take a 6-minute punch/kick sprint with a hot tempo over 15 minutes of extended selling.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but MJF/Janela has been the highlight of the show for me. MJF is such a great heel and works so incredibly smart that he overshadows "better" talent by his mere presence.

Ranking the matches on the show, from favorite to least...
1. MJF vs. Joey Janela
2. Jurassic Express vs. Inner Circle
3. SCU vs. Omega/Page
4. Mox vs. PAC
5. Baker vs. Kelly

I'll probably be wrong here, but what if it's the Bucks, and eventually Kenny, that turn on Page? He has good reason to be pissed. He's overlooked, even as a tag champion it's all about Kenny. The Bucks always walk away from their segments with him like they're pissed at him. They could be cocky heels like they were in Bullet Club.

I've said it before, but AEW's thing should be running events in unusual settings.  I think they should do it 8-10 times a year.  No one has really done it much before, and it breaks up the atmosphere of arenas.

Plus, even Meltzer has said the biggest issue all companies will face in 2020 is getting weekly ticket sales.  So, it's not like it will be killer there.

I'm on board with AEW running unique places. Hell, book a show at the Manhattan Center's Grand Ballroom for nostalgia's sake, or take a tip from CZW and run an outdoor event on a farm. Have a one night tournament in a parking lot, even. Make it a selling point that the company will run shows anywhere they think they can draw.

I know it probably won't happen for a variety of reasons but I'd love for AEW, NJPW, ROH, Impact, MLW, AAA all get together and run a Woodstock type of festival in a park somewhere.  Even if you couldn't get NJPW maybe the others could draw enough to make it work.

This is why I don't mind Marko being in AEW. I feel like the people that dislike him think that his fans believe he should receive a substantial push. Not at all. He exists simply to be a human pinball in multi-man tag matches. Everyone knows his incredibly low ceiling and he's having fun with it. Him and Orange Cassidy have been used perfectly thus far.

AEW still is not clicking with me, like is is with you guys, but I did like how doing the show from the cruise ship gave them a different energy. And that was some pretty good psychology from Moxley, working around that eye injury.

He didn't sell for a 10 year old as they didn't have anyone that young in the match.

And he shouldn't oversell for Marko, but he sold for the type of offense that Marko has. He's not out there selling punches, he's selling surprise offense, and there's nothing wrong with that. He never came close to getting pinned, and knocked Marko out with his finisher.

He's doing what a great shitheel champ should be doing, and that's making the audience know that he's vulnerable. That's like saying Hunter shouldn't have sold for Taka back in 2000.

Oh god no.

This is gonna end with Britt as AEW champ.  This will be the one thing that turns me off totally.  I have no desire to see Men vs Women.  It's not empowering or progressive.  It's just dumb.

I'm supposed to pretend that freaking Penelope Ford is a threat to Omega?

Also, the more I hear from them the more I want Kenny and the Bucks to just be performers and not EVPs.

https://www.wrestlinginc.com/news/2020/01/aew-dynamite-taped-episode-from-chris-jericho-cruise-tops-665330/

AEW still wins the 18-49 demo and overall, but was down 69k from last week while NXT up was up 69k.

Overall numbers for AEW this month:
Jan 1 - 967k
Jan 8 - 947k
Jan 15 - 940k
Jan 22 - 871k

I know taped shows usually take a hit so this week is probably a bit of an outlier, but considering they’ve put together some mostly good shows over this stretch, that trend of dropping viewers every week is a little discouraging. Not to mention the fact that the drop in viewership has coincided with the Dark Order and Nightmare Collective being featured less and less.

Considering the demographic of AEW, I think the impeachment stuff dents their ratings.

The impeachment is kind of like WWE where people watch it because they so obviously want something to happen when unfortunately there's literally no chance of that fucking turd ever getting flushed out this way.

According to reports and Twitter, it looks like all Mox did on the cruise was get shitfaced and sing karaoke. Hey, whatever you gotta do, man.

Marko's also gotten praise for this singing:

Hey guys, I just found out I am interviewing Christopher Daniels in a couple hours. Thought it was going to be with Kazarian and Scorpio, but we had a switch, soooo the questions I had prepped about tag team wrestling being a big selling point for AEW are kinda out the window.

Anything you’d be interested in hearing from Daniels about?

What is his favorite cheat food?
Is his moonsault really the best ever?
Does he prefer singles or tag action?
What is the one thing AEW could do that would grow their business?
What does he want on his Tombstone?
Who would he like his last match to be against?
Does he see AEW ever working with ROH?
Does he feel fans cheering heels now instead of booing them hurts the product?

So, Riho was doing armdrags on Sabian and he was selling her offense.  Crowd loved it on the boat, and Omega is pushing Men vs. Women as the big thing and thinks it's the future.  Omega said "a lot of people don't like this, but wrestling changes".  FU Omega.

Please save us JR.  I really don't want to see full grown men selling Riho offense, and then people saying "well, they didn't really sell it".

I'm really hoping some more traditional people in power squash this even though it got over huge on the boat.  This is my worst fear with Omega and the Bucks having power.  If they had total control I have no doubt we'd be seeing invisible hand grenades and the like.

Thanks for the questions. Interview ended up getting pushed back to Monday, so I have some extra time. Should be fun.

You know, if you have a problem with intergender wrestling that can be nullified by changing the female talent with a cruiserweight...

There’s nothing wrong with inter gender wrestling as long as the female wrestler is good at working from underneath and being believable. Or in the case of a bigger woman, the man being capable of doing the same thing. I think most people here would want to see something like Sasha Banks against Ricochet. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with feeling that way, and even though it exposes the biz as being fake, everyone already knows that.

I was a long time skeptic of intergender wrestling and I honestly would have considered myself against it five years but now, I don't really see it as any different than Angelina Jolie fighting dudes in an action movie.

Listen to how electric the crowd was when Ronda and Triple H squared off at WrestleMania two years ago. I think intergender wrestling, if done well, absolutely could be the wave of the future.
