TWIW- 2/3/2020 to 2/9/2020- Snowed In in Salt Lake
« on: February 03, 2020, 04:14:40 AM »
There is a massive snowstorm in Salt Lake City, which happens to be the city that is hosting RAW tonight. There's a chance most of the fans and perhaps the wrestlers won't be able to make it in tonight.

So tonight's show could be p. interesting.

Also why does WWE not exclusively book shows in the South & West Coast during December through February? This is not the first time this has happened.

Just cancel the show and air both this year's Rumbles. That'll take up most of the time thanks to commercials. Fill the rest of the time with random Mojo 24/7 hijinks filmed at a hotel or wherever.

The last time they had to do this was the night after Rumble '15. The show took place in Hartford but there was a major snowstorm and they had to cancel everything. They re-aired the Rumble match and interviewed a few people via satellite like Lesnar, Reigns, Cena etc.

It also had a semi-humorous bit where JBL was on the roof of WWE headquarters freezing his ass off giving updates about the weather.

It also had Dean Ambrose brooding and walking through the snowy streets of Stamford in his ring gear too.

I had tickets to a Smackdown! taping in Boston the next night and that was canceled too. Couldn't make the make up date either and just had to get a refund. Sad! But I think that was before they started caring about Smackdown! again so not too much of a sob story, I guess.

Would be sorta cool if they just did NXT from Full Sail tonight if that was feasible. Would be a NXT RAW TAKEOVER like when they had to rescue smackdown a few months ago.

Hockey runs in cold weather cities through the winter and doesn't encounter many problems. People in cold weather cities need indoor entertainment and its a bit of a fluke thing.

It's different though cause NBA/NHL teams are based in those cold Northern (Or I guess Rockies based in SLC's case) cities. WWE doesn't have to run those cities  I know these blizzards are flukey but they're not enough of a fluke that WWE shouldn't take them into consideration when it comes to routing their tours.

Not that me or anyone cares about the Saudi shows.....but couldn't they at least build up Ricochet first?  And kicking Brock in the balls at the Rumble doesn't count.  He's been a total geek for like 6 months at least now.  Saw a stat that the Rumble was his first tv match in 2020 and he hadn't won on tv since the fall

I've barely watched WWE in 2020 and I've seen Ricochet win matches. Granted it was against Mojo Rawley (and it might have been late 2019 come to think of it). He seems firmly placed in midcard role.

I think the build for Brock-Ricochet is gonna be "Wow! Brock is gonna kill that geek!" then everyone will be spitting out their Mountain Dew Kickstart (or whatever the Saudi equivalent is) when Ricochet gets a marginal amount of offense before doing the job. Then Ricochet will go back down to being a midcard geek and WWE "brain trust" will consider him a "made man" ::) ::) ::)

WWE has signed Timothy Thatcher.

A few years ago, it'd be unthinkable for WWE to sign an uncharismatic grapplefuck in his late 30s but anything is possible now in this current wrestling landscape. I'm guessing he joins his old indy partner Walter in NXT UK (even though he's American)

So, WWE upped their offer to Revival to 700K apiece, and they turned them down.  Wow.  That is hard money to turn down.  I know they want to go to AEW and work a program with The Bucks, but that is insane cash for a team in their spot.

And if WWE ever loses one of their big revenue streams they are totally fucked with their expenses.  If the tv industry turns in the next few years the company would essentially go bankrupt and not exist within a year or two.  AEW has cost WWE tens of millions of dollars in contract expenses.  VKM would've been better off offering Cody, Omega and the Bucks 5 million a year apiece.

That still blows up the contract structure for 205 Live geeks to be making that kind of cash.

I guess you got to give The Revival a little bit of respect for wanting proper tag team wrestling enough to walk away from cash like that. I doubt AEW would throw that kind of money at them. Would they try to call themselves The Mechanics? I don't even think they really want to be the face of a tag division, I just think they want to be part of a respectable one, or at least one that is respected by the company they are working for.

I only saw Kross in Impact during an era of heavy fast-forward viewing for me but I never saw cause for all the hype he’s gotten since he’s been a free agent, other than people wanting to support him for speaking out on some of Impact’s reported shady business dealings.  Is there something I should watch to know what I’m missing?  Feeling a lot of hype around him that I don’t get much.

I've been following him for about 4 years. His home company is Future Stars of Wrestling out of Vegas. He had a great match against Moxley a few months ago there. He's also worked for Defy and had a great match recently against Douglas James (who works for MLW and is a great talent himself). He had a mini feud with Nick Gage over the past few months. His match against Tony Deppen from ICW No Holds Barred from last month was great, too.

He's very much a power/catch wrestler that's a student of the game. He's studied a lot of power Japanese wrestling. He also cuts some really good promos, and is a terrific person.

That’s silly.   They can only leave arenas in cars back to the next towns hotel.   Otherwise to arrive at the arena someone else must transport you.

We all said $120/year for all the WWE PPVs was stupid and unfeasible when they first announced it. I'm surprised it's lasted as long as it has.

The thing is, because those PPV's are now worth basically nothing and the product fucking sucks, I don't think anyone's going to go back to buying them.

Who would buy the Network without the PPVs?  That's the main selling point.  It would essentially make the network worthless.  I've always heard that it was the new material that got all the views.  The old stuff gets really low numbers.

Essentially I think it would be the end of the Network.  I think the base would crash, and the revenue brought in from the people who wouldn't cancel wouldn't be enough to make it financially viable.

There are still a lot of diehards that will keep it just for the classic content. I don't know if there are enough of them to keep the Network sustainable but they do exist.

So if they take PPVs away from the Network, will they be added later on? How long until they become "classic content"?

There are plenty of people here that would keep the Network just for classic content and indies. But the chances of casual fans sticking around with their subscription are somewhere between slim and none.

C'mon. Homey don't play that.
