I wasn't ever much into Dark Stalkers, so I don't really have much excitement for Hsien-Ko.  Sentinel though, is definitely something to get excited over.  I'm wondering how they'll handle the Galactus fight.  Wonder if we'll be smacking his Fist and Head ala Apocalypse, or if there will be more involvement?

Kinda surprised they went with MK9 what with Arcana Heart 3 already having a sizable and growing community.

I was listening to the live broadcast of the announcement, and basically the logic is "It sells millions in America, and it's more competitive focused this time." They also hinted that they've been in contact with the devs of MK. It's very likely they've been playing MK for a while. Evo staff generally does not take risks putting games into their tournament, so the only way they would put it in the lineup is if they had a decent amount of time on it.

So, uh...I bought my copy of MvC3 off of eBay, thinking that it would ship on the 15th. I just now got shipping confirmation. Unless something is seriously screwed up here I'll have a copy of the game in my hands in a couple days. Updates as the situation warrants.

So once you get it, you'll need proof.

False alarm, it seems. I think the notification only showed up 'cause the guy printed out his shipping label early with no intention of breaking street date. Sorry to get your hopes up.

There was some controversy over the weekend when Justin Wong got the game and tweeted that Sentinel was too easy to be good with and Marvel 3 was ruined. Thankfully, he was just being a whiny bitch, and Marvel 3 is still a good game.

I love fighting games, but I couldn't give two shits about Justin Wong or any of these other tournament players. I'll never understand how these guys garner fan followings in the first place.

Gamesradar had up a video yesterday from a MvC2 tournament. I laughed my ass poff at one of the spectators yelling "Mango Sentinel is kicking that ass with the curly moustache!". The hell does that een mean?  Really though, I don't care anything about what a "professional gamer" has to say. I'm getting this regardless.

That Mango Sentinel/Curly Moustache thing is some "professional gamer" meme that's been going around for a couple of years. I also have no idea what it means.

The origin of Curly Mustache.

Is Mahvel Baybee!

Also, here's a link to a first-to-ten match in MvC3 between two really good players. Some interesting stuff, here.

Because Yipes is a god beyond understanding.

Mango Sentinel is a color select of Sentinel where he is Mango Sentinel. Due to its popularity, it is a color select in MvC 3. Also see: Mango Sirlin.

Curleh Mustache: A Curleh Mustache is what you have when you play like Pringles. This means to play so poorly you crumble like a Pringles chip. See, because they're so fragile.

Fun fact: Capcom was thisssss close to doing a cross-promotion with Pringles.

The video is years old, not from a tournament. The best part of it is the full version where after the match, Yipes launches into a minute and a half diatribe about why Arcana Heart sucks, for apparently no reason.

The best part of the video is when you don't watch it. And yes I understood that Mango was a colour select for Sential. The dumb Curly Moustache thing was what I didn't get. Even after the explanation, I still don't find it funny. *shrug*

I generally disagree with the very concept of DLC - but if they package all four characters together for, say, $15, I might have to get 'em.

I have a 360 which I can get online (barely) but don't have a Xbox Live account. Can I still get DLC? I assume I can't play onine.

No, you cannot. Join your overlords in a connected dystopian future.

As an aside, Jill and Shuma-Gorath are $5 each on March 15. If you got the collector's edition, redeem the code on the back (Wait until March 15 on the PS3) to get them for free. There will be 6 costumes released March 1 for $5 as well (Ryu, Chris, Dante, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America). I also have on very good authority (And common sense) that everyone will get a bonus costume.

There will eventually be an option to buy all costumes in a bundle at a reduced price, but not for several months.

By the way, if anyone is trying to join multiplayer games and getting a ton of connection errors, try going to Custom Search instead of Quick Search, and set Language Preference to English. Should fix about 60-80% of your connection problems.

I'm going to sound like such a noob for saying this but...

I was doing the mission mode in MvC3...came across Chun Li.

One of her moves says Down, Charge, Up High.

As I have not been a Street fighter regular and such, I was wondering how you're suppossed to pull off the "charge' that they mention there.

All that means is that you have to "charge" the down command by holding the joystick in the down position for a couple seconds - then press up and the attack button at the same time. This is a command for the Spinning Bird Kick, right?

luke-yo: for several years I had a free "xbox live silver" account, which I could use to download DLC.  So you don't need to shell out a monthly fee, but you do need to register.

Of course cage matches work.  If they didn't work, everybody would still be in the cage.

Under Night In-Birth is probably why Melty Blood HD isn't out yet. Ecole is probably working on it and can't devote any resources to making Melty Blood HD.

And just like Melty Blood, this game actually started out as a joke project till Tsukihime writer Kinoko got ahold of it. Meaning Kinoko probably has a hand in it. Interesting.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you can track down these pads -

You'll be okay. The regular 360 pad is god awful for fighting games.

I've only played 10 mins of MvC3 and thus far:

I love the animation style

I love the franetic nature of the game.

I loathe the Light, Medium, Heavy attack control scheme ported over from TvC. I always figured that control scheme was designed because of the Wii's button limitations - but here it is on a control bad that has more than enough buttons. It takes out all the skill of the game and turns it into one giant mess.

I played as one of the characters I was stoked for, Deadpool. And, while his schtick is funny, I fear it could get old very quickly.

I will eat all of your dicks if Daniel Bryan ACTUALLY cashes in his MITB at Wrestlemania

I don't really like the scheme, either, but it's actually based off of a standard for a lot of games that came before TvC - Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, Melty Blood, etc. Guilty Gear actually has a fifth button, but it's a "special attack" type button. Either way I can understand why they're using it and there still is skill involved in it since each button does a different version of special moves. Though again I prefer the old Street Fighter scheme if only because I'm so used to it that I always find myself trying to hit the shoulder buttons and then realizing they're not going to do what I expect them to do.

I hate the 360 controller for this shit.  Fucking infuriating to the point where I play on "Simple" just to do some sort of special move as opposed to being reduced to mash heavy attack over and over.

I really miss having 6 attack buttons...

Only a select few though. I don't know, it just doesn't sit well with me.

Which brings me on to my other gripe with the game - everyone, and I mean everyone has the same move list. It's all fireballs, uppercuts and the reverse of the two. There is only a couple of charge moves and half circles. Even a character like Haggar - who is clearly based on Zangief - has fireball controls.

What's everyones team combinations thus far? I've been using Deadpool/Zero/Arthur for the past couple of times. I've tried Wesker (who sucks), Spencer (who sucks) and Dante (who seemed okay) and some of the Marvel ones. I like She-Hulk but can't pull of her super moves for some reason. Pheonix is quite good as is Super Skrull. I'm not big on Dormammu though.

...and you're a fool if you think Wesker sucks. That fucker is like a god damned one man blitzkrieg. Seems to hit just as hard as fuckin Sent but moves 1000x faster...add in that damned teleport and what people are calling "maximum wesker" and he's a buzz-saw.

My team right now is: Chun / Wolvie / Sent with Doom as a sub in for Sent at times.

Oh, and Dante is more than "alright" as well. Learn his combos and he can fuck shit up right quick..

It is a complete pain in the ass to play a good Dante. Seems like he can move effortlessly into a fifty-hit combo off of practically anything.

Current team - M.O.D.O.K./Dormammu/Amaterasu. I'm still pretty bad, but I have figured out a few cool tricks with M.O.D.O.K. and Dormmamu that have saved my ass a few times, while Amaterasu is basically the all-around character to throw in there when my keep-away isn't working (though she has a pretty decent keep-away herself with her Rosary forward+C).

I'm LOVING Dormammu and Thor. Dormammu can play an excellent game of keep away with his varied black hole ranges, and Thor has some sick anti-air offense. I haven't messed around much with the Capcom side yet, other than Ryu, Dante and Akuma.

This sounds like you have OCD. Does it matter which way you do motions? Just makes the game more needlessly complex.

I am playing C. Viper/Iron Man/She Hulk. Viper's 8 way air dash is tops, plus I have a simple ground bread and butter (A, B, C, Thunder Knuckle A) which has just enough recovery time to get what appears to be an endless loop on the enemy. I can finish with an EX Thunder Knuckle, and pop them up for an air combo, ending with She Hulk who can pop OTG with Torpedo, and finish with the Drop Kick super. It's pretty demoralizing. Iron Man is there to be a keepaway bitch.
