I expect this show won't get a weekly show so let's keep the chat in here.

Quote
-- DirecTV's preview for the premiere of WWE Superstars on WGN America next week simply reads: "With Kevin Kelly."

Kevin Kelly is going to anchor a whole show himself? Smells like WWF Livewire to me!

Did Kelly host the WWE Superstars show all those years ago? If so, they might just have old info (DirecTV)

Not for nothing, but for those of you like me who are thinking "Whoopie, a non-HD WWE show" (because as far as I know there is no HD feed of WGN America), it appears the WGN Chicago HD feed will air the show on Sunday at 11am. Man, if it was called "Wrestling Challenge" that would be a real throwback to my Sunday morning viewing habits. The Kevin Kelly thing is also listed on WGN's website.

Edit: Oops, forgot I was reading the times off a Chicago based website - it would be 11 central, 12 eastern.

They should rename ECW to Wrestling Challenge and bring back the neon-bar banners/graphics.

Same for the black SuperStars banners w/ the block lettering and 16-piece video wall.

I remember the first time I saw that used on Challenge, I thought "Wow, they're using their special WrestleMania entrance on TV!" or something to that affect.

IIRC, didn't he leave on bad terms according to an interview a few years ago?

I know we're not having super threads any more, but where on earth would I post this? KOTR coming back soon.

As previously reported, the June 15th edition of WWE Raw from Charlotte, North Carolina will be a special 3-hour show. The show is rumored to feature a 1-night tournament to crown a 2009 King of the Ring. The pre-sale password to get tickets early (they went on sale this morning) is "CENA".

-- Looking for a quick boost of energy, brother? Since drinking energy beverages out of a can is apparently a hassle, WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan is now selling his own line of Extreme Energy Granules. Now you can "feel awake, alert and productive for hours" and gain "immediate mental clarity and focus" by letting the Hulkster's citrus-flavored powder dissolve in your mouth. Yum. -- DirecTV has removed the "host Kevin Kelly" mention from the preview for the premiere episode of WWE Superstars this Thursday night on WGN America.

The former WWE announcer has been telling people that he isn't returning to the company, so the listing including his name was indeed a mistake. Additionally, no one spoken to had heard anything on Kelly rejoining the company, reports www.ProWrestling.NET.

At last word, WWE will be taping one match for this Thursday's premiere episode prior to tomorrow night's three-hour Raw broadcast. Additionally, two more matches will be taped prior to the dual Smackdown/ECW taping the following night. Starting next week, WWE will formally tape Superstars in its entirety prior to Raw every Monday night.

Got the spoiler to that match from the WrestleCrap Board...don't know where they got it, so they MIGHT be true, might not.

Spoiler: show
The Undertaker is opening Superstars. He will take on Matt Hardy. It was a pretty good match between Hardy and Taker. Hardy botched a guillotine choke spot and had to redo it. There were classic Taker spots. Hardy got himself counted out so Taker wins. Jeff Hardy's music played and he attacked Matt post-match. Matt got chokeslammed after Jeff threw him in the ring.

Will that be Taker's first TV appearance since Mania?  Kind of random coming off of such a huge match.  HBK hasn't been on TV yet either.  Wonder why they didn't do a deal with them on RAW last week, or even this week, to try and sell replays of Mania and/or the eventual DVD.  It's almost like they're pretending the match didn't happen, when they should really be hyping it up as much as possible

Are you surprised?  That's more or less the standard procedure whenever Shawn acts heelish for a while and then goes out and kills himself in an awesome match.  He stays off television for a while, and then quietly pops up in his next segment a couple weeks later without much or any mention made of the previous match which he usually lost.

Not only do I not know the song name, I couldn't even tell who the band was. I'd have to hear it more clearly.

Can somebody tell me what kind of show this is? I won't download it until tomorrow.

Has it got the same ring announcers? Are the matches filmed in the same building on the same day? Or is it like an ROH PPV where they just put various matches together on the show?

Grisham and JR are commentating. It looks like it was taped before RAW.

I do hear that the next 2 matches were taped before SD, though, maybe because of the 3 hour RAW.

Is that just this week or in the future will they just have one taping for the whole show?

Does this look like a genuine wrestling show to score for TSM Fantasy or more like a Velocity type show?

What a lame ass finish.

Also, next week this entire show will be taped before RAW. It's just because of the 3 hour RAW that they split the taping this week. (So, Superstars before RAW and ECW before SD. I guess some wrestlers will have to pull double duty every week.)

EDIT - I forgot that ECW is before RAW now. That seems like some loaded taping.

Here's Jeffrey.

Christian vs. Finlay
Shane O' Mac vs. Cody Rhodes (I think)

Seems like a genuine show to me, Adam.

I suppose it would be akin to ECW in a sense, without the brand split (if such a thing existed on ECW).

And this may be the last time Finlay and Horny come out together.

Matthews and Striker on commentary now. I wonder if they'll do this every week, having three sets of commentators with 3 matches over each brand.

I don't get WGN but I caught the show online today

I like the format, where they tape 3 dark matches over the course of the two days of tapings earlier in the week.  I imagine they'll stick to the one match for each brand per show format and keep doing fun little "marquee" matches like this weeks show for the time being.  It's really easy to do it that way due to the HD Tron they use on all the shows, and it means for at least the time being they'll produce some good little matches with good crowd reaction, since the fans are always hot for the stuff before the main show and will probably pop just for the fact that it's a Superstars match.

I enjoyed the show just due to how straightforward it was, just matches and a couple video packages and selling of a couple of the main programs from the 3 brands.  3 decent length matches, nothing incredible but the first two were good solid little tv matches where the guys got a little time to work a body part and put together some structure, and the Shane/Cody match was a nice change of pace from pretty much every other time Shane has been in the ring lately with him selling and letting Rhodes control it some.

It'll likely go the way of most secondary WWE shows and get less and less in the way of the Undertaker and Shane McMahon "mega star" appearances, but it should be a great show for in ring action between midcard and upper midcard talent, like ECW with bigger pushes.

-- WGN America is running commercials this weekend promoting John Cena on WWE Superstars. He is also mentioned alongside Triple H in TV Guide's preview for this week's show: HD, Featured: champions John Cena and Triple H. (Pro Wrestling)

-- Speaking of WWE Superstars, the rating for Thursday's show still has yet to come in, which probably isn't a good sign.

I think having a bald spot and a receding hairline kind of takes away from Ryder's gimmick.

Also, he needs to wear a shirt with a popped collar as his entrance gear.

I missed the Tony Garea cameo on SD last week.

Also, looks like Morrison has a little bit of the HGH bloat on his abs. It's especially noticeable when he's shown from the side.
