Also The NFL is going to drag on Favre's investigation until after Brett retires. Jen is not amused.

Ndamukong Suh got fined $15,000 for shoving Jay Cutler to the ground on a running play.  You can't even hit a QB when he's 8 yards down field now.

I saw that. So they claimed he forearmed him in the back of the head? If I remember right the replay showed him shoving him and not even contacting his head. To me it looked perfectly legal.
I watched RAW. I thought it sucked. The usual problems and such.

Just make it 7-on-7 flag football and be done with it.  Enough with the complicated contact rules and inconsistent fines/penalties.

Yeah, it really is stupid bullshit by this stage, and more the NFL refusing to admit that their officials can get calls wrong. Even the hit on big Ben that broke his nose shouldn't really be fined. There have been a lot of plays where players are getting fined/penalties when they've gone for a strip and incidently hit the QBs head/helmet. If the helmet can't take a swipe/slap to the head then why the fuck are they wearing them? They must be able to protect against something!

The fine is still better than giving the Colts first and ten after a failed 3rd and 18 because the pinky of a defender brushed the back of Manning's helmet en route to stripping the ball.

It's a fag league.

I love how everyone bitched about SF-ARI being on Monday Night two weeks back, and how horrible it was that those teams were being showcased, and how wonderful it will be when two 9-2 teams get the spotlight next. And it was a terrible blowout! At least Niners-Cardinals had comedy value.

And the whole "oh ho ho nobody will watch THIS crappy Monday night game" is never borne out because everyone always watches every Monday night game due to the ramifications of everyone's FANTASY TEAMS~! I think Jacksonville-Tennessee had more viewers than the World Series.

Also at this point I think Monday Night Football is kind of a habitual thing for people, sure the match ups are rarely marquee, but they don't need to be anymore.

Matt Cassel had an appendectomy. Let's hope he isn't ready to play on Sunday or any other time soon and shitty Brodie Croyle has to take over the feathers, tomahawk and war horse for KC. Players usually don't play for two weeks after those.

Donkey Kong Suh was just on ESPN and I wouldn't even know he was an athlete by the way he talked. No awkward pauses or "uhms" between every other word. He already speaks better than damn near every football player who has gone to an analysis job once they retired from the game.

Not very, I'd imagine. With Tom Brady in the midst of his best year since 2007 the only way a runningback is going to compete is if he's far and away the best in the league at his position - and there's a case to be made that Arian Foster is having a slightly better campaign than MJD. Even if Jones-Drew powers the Jaguars to the playoffs (which is looking more likely by the week) I can't imagine he'd make a serious showing.

Was just listening to the radio a little bit ago, and apparently Bob Lamey (Colts' radio PBP) made some off-the-air comments about Manning during the Dallas game, which included "the league's got Peyton figured out, they should bench him and put in Curtis Painter" and "they should think about drafting his replacement starting next year."  Maybe Byron was onto something!

Some ESPN people are saying that they need to draft Peyton's replacement this year, and then let him sit behind him for 2 or 3 years and soak all of Peyton's immense knowledge.

That makes sense. Peyton's at the age, believe it or not, where people just started harassing Favre about retirement. Long before he turned it into a total joke, that is.

It's cute how NFL Network wants us to take Matt Millen's analysis seriously.  Though he was right about them kicking the FG first to save some time.  Especially if they were going to piss away the final drive like that.

Did Randy Moss even get near the ball?

I think it's a little early to completely throw Manning under the bus.

He's clearly aging, but this season he's being exposed more than normal because of the depleted state of the Colts' offense at the skill positions.  The fact that the line is playing badly doesn't help either.

Frankly, some of the Colts' issues appear to be the same ones that the Saints had in 2008, as Brees put up the 2nd-most passing yards in NFL history but the team finished at about .500 because they couldn't rush worth a shit.

They fixed this by re-emphasizing the rush in practice, which made the line better at blocking.  That, in turn, allowed them a few good rushes at the beginning of each game that would put the opposing D on their toes rather than ignoring the run completely and just rushing the crap out of Brees.  That, combined with bringing in Gregg Williams as DC, was enough to put them over the top last season.
It's hard to make comparisons since Auburn is replacing a lot of production on defense and LSU's unit is apparently composed of half human/half swamp mutant hybrids who spit diesel fuel and long to hear the terrified screams of small children.

Brandon Spikes of the Pats is out for the last 4 games of the season due to a failed drug test.

Spikes claims that it was a medication that he didn't get a proper clarification on before taking, as opposed to steroids or an illegal drug.

In other news, Charlie Wisenhunt has apparently been telling people that he wanted to bring Marc Bulger aboard as an insurance policy before the start of the season but that the Bidwells were too cheap to spring for him.

I'm not sure that it would have helped, though, as they certainly had a case of Jon Gruden syndrome by that point thanks to stockpiling QBs like Leinart, Derek Anderson, Max Hall, and John Skelton.  Even by cutting Leinart and bringing in Bulger, that would have been a lot of roster spots tied up in QBs.

Brandon Spikes' reason for the failed drug test has been determined... ADHD drug Adderall, which previously forced Saints kicker Garrett Hartley to miss the first 4 games of the 2009 season.  It falls on the list because it's an amphetamine.
