1989: Which is Better?
« on: January 22, 2011, 04:02:54 AM »
Arguably the best run that any wrestler ever had was Ric Flair's 1989. The feud with Ricky Steamboat encompasses three matches that will hold their ground as some of the greatest ever for the rest of time. As soon as it was over, it bled right into Flair being forced into a corner by crazy motherfucker Terry Funk in what has to have some of the best buildup ever seen. I'd even argue that the matches Flair had against Funk, while totally different from the scientific spectacles with Steamboat, are as good if not better than the Chi-Town Rumble, Clash, and Wrestlewar matches. What say ye?

I enjoy the Flair/Funk matches slightly more but think the Steamboat series was better.

Seeing this is not a question about 1989 vs 1989-A, I'll need to re-think (though I imagine 1989 was better than 1989-A, based on the events of 1985-A).

Funk matches, because Funk might be my favorite wrestler ever and I have no problem being biased

I'll go with Steamboat/Flair. That said, I'm counting the Wrestlewar postmatch beatdown as part of the Steamboat/Flair series because I want to.

I can't even vote because I think they're on even ground. The Flair/Steamboat series were technical masterpieces, the Flair/Funk series was a fantastic display of southern-style WRASSLIN', and they both serve an equally important place in history.
