If anyone wants to see it in action, Giant Bomb is doing a 12-hour livestream tomorrow starting at 8AM Pacific.  I always wanted to try Oblivion, but never got around to it and I'll be engrossed in Saint's Row next week anyway so I'll try to catch some of this without caring about spoilers.

10/10 from the ever hard to please Eurogamer.  My buddy at Bethesda is flipping his shit with glee at that one.

I feel kind of dumb getting a game at midnight, but I may have to with this one.

All right, oblivion fiends.  Moment of truth.  I'm all of 20 hours into Oblivion.  Am I going to completely burn myself out on this genre if I play through the Dark Brotherhood, main story, and Shivering Isles?  I know there's a ton more to do, but I'd like to at least hit the high points before starting on a game that'll most likely ensure I never go back to this one.

Rip through the Dark Brotherhood and the thieves guild, unless you aren't very thiefy. That will properly oil you up for Skyrim's back-cracking

The main story in Oblivion is a terrible slog. Well, I'm pretty sure it is, I gave up halfway through said terrible slog.

Brotherhood is awesome. Play that. That's the best part of Oblivion.

Watching the livestream at GB and it looks really cool.  The player is in some sort of mountainous environment right now and it's really well done.  Looks like you can literally wander for days without hitting anything resembling a story mission.  The music is incredible as well.

Never played Oblivion, but I was just told I'd be getting this as an X-Mas gift. I don't game all that often anymore so the wait is no problem for me. It looks awesome and I'm pretty stoked for it. Hope I don't really need to play Oblivion to be able to follow this one. Absolutely loved Fallout 3, and this is giving me similar vibes.

Pretty sure you don't need to know anything from Oblivion.

Yeah, this one is supposed to take place a couple of hundred years after Oblivion, so I would think you'll be OK.  Worst case scenario is they'll probably make a couple of references to the Septims in a book or two.

I want this sooooo bad. But I also just bought NCAA 12 and was going to finish unlocking everyone on WWE All-Stars. And I wanted to play Mortal Kombat. Gah! I just know if I get this I won't touch another game for months on end.
I watched RAW. I thought it sucked. The usual problems and such.

I made a khajiit (like always) and am ready to spend like 10 hours playing tonight after the Sabres game ends.

Estimates say it will take between 150-200 hours for me to 100% the achievements in the game.  The journey begins now.

EDIT:  Or more like 10 I guess.

I am usually only good for 2-3 hours at a time without a break, AT BEST. I did 6 hours and 49 minutes consecutive before quitting before dinner and the Carolina game.

Best game ever. All my favorite parts of Fallout combined with all my favorite parts of Elder Scrolls. I haven't even run into a random dragon yet - just the first one that's part of the main story. In fact - I've just been clearing out random caves and doing some sidequests and loving every bit of it.

One under-rated great thing: letting you know on map when you've completely cleared out a cave/location.

After a few hiccups on installation (Steam might be one of the least annoying DRM systems around, but it still knows how to be a piece of shit now and then) I'm ready to launch this baby. To infinity, and beyond!

I fought a second dragon last night.  It took me about 35 minutes to kill it because it would land and as I would run up to it to be able to try to hit it, it would just fly away.

Still haven't encountered a second, although I have some shout words learned and ready for the souls to absorb.

It's hilarious... the map looks big. Then go all the way down to the bottom right and the town of Ritten. There's just a HUGE amount of space between there and where most of the other areas are. Could be wild.

This is not unfolding as I imagined.

Wrecked every dragon I came across so far without much difficulty but routinely getting wrecked myself by all other type of creatures.

The dungeon creation team at Bethesda should be really proud of themselves with this game. Each dungeon has a self contained story and although they mostly follow a similar pattern of external chamber, slightly harder internal chamber (especially ones with Shouts in them), they are all varied and different. Some of the stories are funny, too. (Yngvlid ice cave and the "experiments" he is performing - for one).

Last night I decided I wanted to head to Winterhold and get down to business on being a badass mage.  I foolishly decided to go at night.  I fell off a cliff and killed my house, and then ran through the woods like an idiot until I came across a fort crawling with bandits.  I burned all of them.  I finally waited around long enough to get the sun up.  Then I eventually found my way to Solitude where I snagged a carriage ride for fifty gold.

I was absolutely lost, and I loved it.

Anyone else get an insanely impossible first quest from The Companions?

I keep getting SLAUGHTERED at the boss of mine (Shimmermist Cave) and my buddy got a quest to take out a vampire that he said he can't even come close to beating. I started on Level 5, failed. Now I'm 12, tried again and got smoked almost just as bad. Anyone else get an impossible quest here?

Just joined the college of Winterhold and that doesn't appear to start you off so poorly.

I spent the evening doing the "Forbidden Legend" side quest.  It comes up after the first college of Winterhold assignment.  It's about that Gauldurson fellow that you dispatch.  At the end of the quest, where you assemble a badass amulet, you have to fight him and his three brothers one after the other.  It was a hell of a battle for my level nine Breton.  Still, it was very thrilling when I get the amulet.  It's a plus 30 to Magicka, Health, and Stamina.  It's worth the trouble.

Sounds worth it. Think I will go for that.

I got my first bugged quest - "Waking Nightmare" outside of Dawnstar. You follow the dude to the temple, he goes in, and he's nowhere to be found when I go in. You need him to advance through it. Looked it up and it's a known bug.

Oh, Bethesda. Luckily it's only a side quest...can just save it for after the patch.

Watching YouTube videos shows that Skyrim has a rudimentary space program of giants launching things into orbit with their clubs.  I hope that's a bug they don't fix.

I'll probably ask for this for Christmas or see if it's on sale on Black Friday.  I could use something to tide me over in January before Mass Effect 3.

UGH. This battle sucked. Especially the second wave. If it wasn't hard enough I kept getting disarmed and didn't have a second weapon with me (stupid, I know) so I had to spend parts of it running around looking on the floor for my axe. You're right though, worth it.

As for that video up there - AWESOME. Cool to see a Giant launch something else. I probably won't even attempt one until I'm level 40+.

EDIT: Past level 20 I was able to beat the really hard quests I was talking about earlier, for those wondering when to come back to tough ones.

So when I buy a spell tome, I have no idea if it is novice or apprentice or whatever. This is annoying when I am trying to upgrade my flames spell to something less shitty.

Does anyone else hate Lydia but not want her to die? I finished Shimmermist Cave, but doing so while keeping her alive was a bitch and a half.
