I'm sure there is a far more clever title to be had...

Anyway, with football coming up, I figured we'd start a thread for our fantasy talk, that way it isn't clogging up the main football threads.

I have the number 1 overall pick in my money league, 12 team ppr(.5 point) otherwise ESPN standard league. I've narrowed the list down to Vick, ADP, and Rice. Vick is very risk/reward, ADP is the safe choice, and Rice ebcause I think he has a lot of upside this year, plus I think there is a lot of QB value this year(Josh Freeman, in particular.) So...I'm conflicted.

For shits and giggles, this is ESPN's projected top ten picks:
1)Adrian Peterson
2)Arian Foster
3)Chris Johnson
4)Jammal Charles
5)Maurice Jones-Drew
6)Ray Rice
7)Aaron Rodgers
8)Lesean McCoy
9)Andre Johnson
10)Mike Vick

Eh on Vick.  You can probably get Brady or Brees or Rivers when the draft comes back around to you.  I have a hard time picking anything but an RB at number 1.

Should I trade Aaron Rodgers for Drew Brees and Ben Jarvis-Green-Ellis-Island-Ice-Tea?

Brees is still going to be Brees, and Law Firm is still the #1 in NE's RBBC (an RB #2 if you've got 2 RB positions).

It depends on if a RB would help you. If Law Firm helps you, make the trade. If this is just for the sake of making a trade, then don't do it.

I'd do it, Brees and Rodgers kind of equal out, and BJGE should get the lion's share of NE's RBBC carries

This is tough. I don't really NEED another RB (I have Ryan Matthews, Shonn Greene, Daniel Thomas, and Brandon Jacobs). I think The first two will have great years, and Thomas will get the most carries. I only need two backs. I rate Rodgers higher than Brees, but it is close. Thanks for the responses.

EDIT: I don't think it's a keeper league.

Don't be so sure about Matthews and Greene, or Jacobs. Thomas is a rookie as well, and rookies missed out on a lot of training because of the holdout, so I'd be really wary of all of them in all non-keeper league formats. How many RB slots do you have?

Matthews isn't having a great camp so far. He will probably share a lot of carries with Mike Tolbert. Id sell high on him.

Well, my TRTSM team is looking stellar so far:

Johnny Knox: Inexplicably not starting over Devin Hester or Roy Williams
Emmanuel Sanders: Still injured (to be fair, I knew that when I drafted him, but he needs to get his ass back on the field soon before he finds himself a couple slots lower on the depth chart)
Ryan Williams: Carted off the field tonight with an apparent serious knee injury.
Rex Grossman: Was only gonna be a bye week fill-in anyways, but it's kinda annoying to see him losing a battle with John Beck.
Tashard Choice: For some reason, he never seems to get any run in Dallas.

Just waiting on the annual Kellen Winslow injury and the career-ending concussion for Austin Collie now.

I just did my first draft of the fantasy season, a 10 team(fuckin hate 10 team leagues) PPR league with a ridiculously deep bench.  Starters are QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR/RB, TE, K and DEF, and there's EIGHT bench spots.  My team:

QBs: Freeman and Fitzpatrick
WRs: Megatron, Austin, Maclin (now with 98% less aids!), Boldin, Sims-Walker, Mike Thomas and Plax
RBs: McCoy, Hillis, Fred Jackson, Bush and Hightower
TE: Owen Daniels
K: Josh Brown
DEF: SD

My main concern is QBs.  Probably gonna have to trade away one of my receivers to get a better backup.

Drop Fitzy and get COLT DA'BOLT~

I'm trying to decided between ADP and Foster for number 1 overall in a 12 team ppr league. Ugh, hate this spot.

In a PPR league I would go with Foster there, but I hate drafting 1st as well.  I like drafting near the top, but not #1.

I like that team, even though it's quite questionable at the receivers.  A lot hinges on your IDP scoring, too; if it emphasizes sacks, Matthews and Hali are a very nice pair.  If it's only, say, 2 points for sacks compared to 1 point for tackles, rush OLBs take a big hit and will probably finish outside the top 30-35 LBs.

I've got a question mark in my 14-team keeper.  The short of it is that we can deal from our rosters for the previous year before declaring our keepers, and I have enough sweet dudes to trade some and move up in picks a bit.  A guy who needs another keeper is willing to swap first and second rounds picks if I give him Steven Jackson.  This'd move me to 1.03 and 2.11, whereas right now I've got 1.14/2.01.  1.03 gets me Bradshaw, Hillis, Wallace, or Vincent Jackson guaranteed, but I also like the idea of getting two more players in the first 15 picks.

Guaranteed winner, or two back-to-back?

As a lark, my pals and I are toying with a new format we call Three Player Monte. We pick a QB, RB, and WR every week, and can't use the same player twice.

The first four picks in the draft I was in went like this:

Aaron Rodgers
Peyton Manning
Drew Brees
Michael Vick.

I haven't been in a draft where the first four picks were all QB's.

Sooo, you're playing with idiots then? I can sympathize though. 6 QBs in the first round, 12 team league, here.

I think Cowboy Numbers's dad is in our league, too. He drafted 9th and took Tony Romo. Then Felix Jones, Miles Austin, and Jason Witten. Has anyone else had a Cowboys guy in their league?

Had one of my two drafts today, this one being a PPR with 14 teams. I'm kind of mixed on how it turned out, with RB possibly being a big weakness depending on Ingram's performance.

QB: Philip Rivers
RB: Shonn Greene
RB: Mark Ingram
WR: Mike Williams (TB)
WR: Jeremy Maclin
TE: Dallas Clark
W/R/T: Mike Sims-Walker
K: Billy Cundiff
DEF: Chicago

Bench-

QB: Colt McCoy
RB: Roy Helu
RB: Jerome Harrison
WR: Greg Little
TE: Rob Gronkowski
DEF: Houston

Decided to take a chance on Peyton Manning in the 7th Round(!) but made sure to draft a serviceable backup QB in the meantime. Also pretty deep at RB and WR if I ever need to trade for another backup QB. Hopefully it won't be necessary.

QB: Peyton Manning
      Eli Manning

RB: Chris Johnson
      Matt Forte
      Mark Ingram
      Beanie Wells

WR: Hakeem Nicks
      Dez Bryant
      Mike Williams (TB)
      Santana Moss

TE: Jimmy Graham
      Nate Burleson

DEF: Patriots D
       Texans D

K: Matt Bryant
    Adam Vinatieri

Plus when was Nate Burleson ever a TE?

In my (ex)work league, you have to draft 2 of all those positions due to the tired players rule we use, essentially if you play the same guy 3 weeks in a row, he's tired in that third week and will only receive half the points he normally would.  We're also using a flex player for the first time this season, which is sure to result in a LOT more people just playing their guys tired.   Just had that draft the other day, here's the team I came away with:

QB:  Tom Brady and Matt Cassell
RB:  Ray Rice, DeAngelo Williams, Fred Jackson, Mike Tolbert and Kendall Hunter
WR:  Miles Austin, Wes Welker, Chad Ochocinco, Jacoby Ford, Anthony Armstrong, Torrey Smith and Arrelious Benn
TE:  Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski
K:  Dan Carpenter and Ryan Succop
DEF:  Eagles and Panthers

I have WAY too many damn Patriots on my team, but as long as Brady doesn't go down I figure I should be alright.

I don't mind drafting two tight ends as it's always good to have at least one handcuff for the skill positions.

I usually try to go:

QBx2
RBx5
WRx5
TEx2
DEF (Next to last pick)
K (Last pick)

I also try to get my whole starting line up set before I draft for the bench.

Drafting a kicker of defense before the last two rounds is stupid, and drafting 2 defense/kicks in general is no bueno.

I load up on rbs/wrs, if I need to drop someone for a bye week defense or kicker, no problem, but I don't want to miss out on the next jammal charles because I decided to draft my backup kicker

I picked my defense second to last pick, and I ended up with the Raiders defense. In a 12 team league, I'm going to end up with a top 15 defense regardless. I'd rather stash on high upside rbs or wrs then a defense. More quantity means better odds at finding a sleeper. Guy in my league drafted the packers defense in the 9th round, instead of pick up guys like demarco murray, tim hightower, etc. Insane.

I'm playing fantasy football for the first time this season. I finally relented into joining about two and a half hours before the draft started, so I didn't really get to do as much preparation as I would have liked. I also asked a friend who had played before for some advice and ended up with Kevin Boss as my tight end because of him. I had the fourth overall pick in a snake draft, so I mostly got to watch the players I was familiar with get drafted while I waited for my turn to come around again. Here's my mostly terrible starting lineup.

QB Aaron Rodgers
RB Matt Forte
RB LaDainian Tomlinson (I'm hoping he has a big "thanks for the contract" year)
RB/WR Jonathan Stewart
WR Mike Wallace
WR Donald Driver
TE Chris Cooley (I'm trying to get Dustin Keller in a trade)
DP AJ Hawk (league commissioner accidentally set it so we have to play this pointless position)
D/ST Steelers
K Mason Crosby

I've got Reggie Bush on my bench in the hopes that he'll start out hot and allow me to use him as trade bait.
