So late night is now Kimmel, Fallon and Meyers until Colbert starts?

Man, fuck that.

I've been a fan of the genre for so long that I can pretty much stomach any talk show but Seth Meyers is just the worst.  Can't sit through that show

Norm MacDonald is campaigning on Twitter to replace Craig Ferguson as the host of The Late Late Show. Or maybe he's just joking around.

What do you think, bob?

I don't see CBS hiring Norm. I think they may female. What worries me is Whitney Cummings exists and she does have a relationship with CBS.

Drew has the Price is Right gig, so I wouldn't bet on it. Wayne Brady maybe? Leave that show I don't remember the name of obviously?

Pfft.  Game shows take up no time to film.  People could easily do both.  Hell what's her name used to do the Regis show, a soap opera and a sitcom all at once.  And now Strahan does about 30 things a week.  Drew's being lazy.

I'd watch and welcome a Norm late late show over any of the rumored replacements

That list is awfully boring and safe. I imagine Norm's interview style is

I'll watch the premier of Colbert' Late Show, but I think I'm done with Late Night Talk Shows now that Craig's gone. His show was so delightfully odd and I'm gonna miss his non-pandering interviews.

Not late night but speaking of Ferguson, he's going to be hosting a nightly, half hour syndicated talk show that will air at 7 P.M., starting in Fall 2015.

Can't say I saw that coming. Honestly thought, that'd he just do stand up and maybe be a fill in on Live with Kelly & Michael after he's done on The Late, Late Show.

http://deadline.com/2014/08/craig-ferguson-to-host-syndicated-talk-show-with-tribune-820185/
Article I read implied that he would do both.

I'm with Zetterberg. I think it'd be hard for Ferguson to adapt his show to a half hour format. It'd be hard for him to adapt his show for an early evening audience. Both? I could see him doing well with a half hour, early evening show on cable maybe but when his competition is Entertainment Tonight and Inside Edition? It'd be tough.

Remember how well Craig Kilborn's half hour,  early evening syndicated talk show did four years ago?

Remember Craig Kilborn's half hour, early evening syndicated talk show that he did four years ago at all?

Just seems like a bad fit IMO.

Jon Stewart is leaving the Daily Show.

UPDATE: Comedy Central just sent out this official statement confirming the news, and saying that Stewart will remain with The Daily Show until later this year. It also says that the show will “endure for years to come,” suggesting that it won’t end with Stewart

This kinda blows a lot

I'm pretty shocked and sad but I wish him well in what he does. He can always do a Wrestlemania match for his son!

Who takes over for him? Jason?

Wonder if John Oliver regrets jumping over to HBO since he was probably the obvious heir apparent before he did that. I mean his show is successful over there and all but I'm not sure he would have made the move if he only knew he'd have to wait a year or two to take over for Stewart.

Samantha Bee has been a correspondent since I was in junior high. I'd have to think it's hers if she wants it.

I could actually see Jessica Williams taking over. Her segments seem to be the most popular now that Oliver is gone.

I look at it this way - Oliver, I feel, really found his rhythm at HBO so if he were to move over now, there would be less complaining about his not being Stewart/being too much like Stewart because he's now fully established himself.

We'll see how this shakes itself out.

I'm speaking in general - people are probably going to bitch about whoever the new permanent host is going to be, because the twitterverse.  But if it's a guy like Oliver, there will be less of it, since he's now established.

Conan O'Brien is filming an episode of his show in Havana, Cuba this weekend. The first time a U.S. late night talk show has filmed in Cuba since Jack Paar in 1959.

I was wondering why he wasn't at SNL40 tonight.

Wyatt Cenac's doing stand up here in Portland tomorrow night and they had an interview with him in the local paper where they asked him about The Daily Show. He seemed slightly against the idea of returning to TV and ambivalent when they directly asked him if he'd replace Jon Stewart. He claimed that nobody's talked to him about taking over the job. But I mean if somebody had talked to him, that's probably the answer to give.

I don't get why Jason Jones & Samantha Bee would leave to do a TBS sitcom unless it's a Tyler Perry type deal where they get an order for 10 episodes for the first season and if it's successful, they get a 100 episode order (aka syndication money). Even then, going to TBS seems like you're saying "OK, I'm going to coast creatively and go for the cash" (coughCONANcough).

I think James Corden had a bigger budget for his first episode than Craig Ferguson had for his entire run as host. And it was actually pretty good, too.

I only watched the first 15 minutes but the show looked very, very slick. Vast contrast to Ferguson. Interesting to see what Reggie Watts does in the bandleader/sidekick role.

I also thought it was mildly interesting to see Jay Leno playing himself as a dick (albeit a cartoonish one) on a David Letterman produced show.

Yeah, I recorded this week to see how he does, seeing from the promos how different he is now that he dropped his character.

Most late night talk shows I don't record on a regular basis though because I fall stupid behind watching episodic stuff, let alone stuff like this that is on every night.

I give the debut episode a solid 8 out of 10. I like that Colbert was able to retain his quirkiness even playing "himself". It really didn't feel too toned down from Colbert Report, which was my main fear.

Only real complaint is the band was kind of corny to me.

I thought it was a fantastic debut for Colbert.  He did seem nervous being out of his right wing character but I thought that added to the excitement of a new show.  The graphics and set design did seem low rent but then again  this is CBS

Is Colbert's politic heavy monologue going to play to a wide enough audience to sustain a healty viewership?
