C.J. Wilson versus Yu Darvish is going to be such a huge game.  Wilson returns to face the guy that replaced him, and battles Mike Napoli, whose number he leaked on Twitter.

Bad week for the Dodgers this past week. The offense and bullpen suck and Matt Kemp has a bad hamstring now.

Fortunately the NL West continues to be mediocre.

Hope Donny Ballgame has a good idea on a new closer. Javy Guerra has been awful.

The Rangers have had similar problems.  The defense seems to be sabotaging our pitchers while Josh Hamilton has been battling a bad back.

I think that the White Sox are about to start a good run as long as they have also figured out their closer issues.  Adam Dunn has his stroke back and is making a difference.  Peavy is pitching like an ace once more.  It only took him two full seasons to get healthy for the Sox, though.

The Cubs were foolish to not trade away Carlos Marmol last year.

Random Baseball List
Top 10 Starters In ERA+ Since 2010:

1: Roy Halladay
2: Jered Weaver
3: Justin Verlander
4: Cliff Lee
5: Clayton Kershaw
6: C.J. Wilson
7: Felix Hernandez
8: Johnny Cueto
9: C.C. Sabathia
10: Cole Hamels

I used 350 innings as a cutoff. Josh Johnson and Alexi Ogando would make the list if I used 200. Lower than that and relievers start filtering into the list.

I'm just hoping the Mets aren't the catalyst for the Phillies or Marlins, or both to start their surge back to the top of the NL East this week.

The Mets are actually the toughest team the Phillies will face over the next two weeks. The Phillies have the Mets for three and then face the Padres, Astros, Cubs and Red Sox. Then they finally play the Werth-less Nationals again. And except for the two Cubs games, all of those are at home.

Answering a question from the previous week's thread: Coors Field was nice, but I don't know it was kind of a let down for some reason. I can't really put my finger on why, I think maybe I just had really lofty expectations. It's still really nice though, and the fans were cool. Fairly passionate about their own team, but completely respectful of opposing fans, of which there were a lot. There was the usual friendly bickering, so no real harassment or sense of danger. One quick story:

At Friday's game I was in the outfield near where Eric Hinske was most of the time. A couple Rockies fans near me heckled the holy shit out of him every time he was in the field. It was funny at first, but it's the heckling where after awhile it really grates on your ears and the people sitting near the hecklers are more annoyed than the player. I said nothing about this all game. Hinske hits a go-ahead homer in the 11th and I popped up and cheered like mad, then turned and looked right at the main hecklers and yelled something like YEAH ERIC HINSKE WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Got a lot of laughs out of that one.

I don't think we discussed this here yet. On Saturday Jamie Moyer accused Chipper Jones of stealing signs, and then after the game Chipper bitched about it to the media. I didn't think it was a huge deal, (presuming Chipper was not in fact stealing signs) Moyer was out of line, and Chipper over reacted in the heat of the moment. Big whoop. But my friend the Mariner's fan who loves Moyer now has 'lost all respect' for Chipper Jones and now hates him for talking to the media about it. So I ask here, Chipper Jones talking to reporters about Moyer accusing him of stealing signs: Unprofessional shithead move, or no big deal really?

I did, but it was from a distance so I had no idea how bad it was just by seeing it, but the crowd reaction from the people in that section and the fact they delayed the game clued me in pretty quick. Once the players left the field the crowd got pretty quiet.

Man I'd already forgotten about that, Saturday's game was fucking crazy. 6 run deficit erased, player accused of stealing signs, instant replay used on a homerun called (ruled foul but holy fuck did Heyward crush that thing), fan being carted out injury delay, heavy winds that blew the ball around and trash all over the field, heavy rain, heavy hail, lightning, and the upper level having to move to the lower level because of the lightning. And given the announced crowd was 40,000, and when the upper level had to move down it was pouring rain so everyone on the ground had moved under cover, the first level was a fucking zoo. I wanted to go to the team store and try to find something to deal with the rain for the walk to the hotel, but I literally could not get there. Thankfully I found a souvineer stand that had Rockies umbrellas. Used it once and likely won't again, but it was totally worth the $18 (hail was fucking vicious during part of my walk back.)

I'd be pissed if I were a Philly fan and a starting pitcher allowed himself to get suspended just to "prove a point."  Dumb.

Manny Ramirez might be a changed man.
In unrelated news, Philip Humber gave 8 ER's in 2.1 IP of work. I feel really bad for the Seattle Mariners now.

I think Chipper had every right to defend himself after Moyer made a scene during the game.  Troy Tulowitzki actually kind of came out and defended Chipper as well.  He gave some sort of "You can see both sides" response, but said he didn't think Jones was doing anything.

Philly people still talk in reverent tones about Dickie Noles knocking down George Brett in the 1980 World Series. I don't like it but I don't think this is a big, big deal. The Phillies gave the Nationals a baserunner. That baserunner responded by stealing home and the Nationals responded by hitting one of the Phillies' hitters. Hamels will get suspended 5-6 games. That should be the end of it all.

Hamels got 5 games. Since he's a starter I'm sure he'll appeal, drop it right after pitching, and technically miss a start but probably not miss any overall as far as the season goes. Big whoop.

That's bullshit.  He hit Harper, he got plunked in return, that was the end of it.  Just old school tit for tat.  The ump barely even had to warn the teams.

At Camden Yards, Josh Hamilton lost his bat and it wound up with an Orioles fan.  He quickly handed it to a young Rangers fan in the crowd.  The Rangers' reporter at the game found the man and got a word with the guy.  This guy was pretty much the anti "Captain Cialis" from the Rangers/Yankees game.

Kenley Jansen is the new closer for the Dodgers.

Kind of want Donny to move Aaron Harang from the rotation to the bullpen and bring up Nate Eovaldi.

He got suspended because he came out and admitted he did it on purpose.  Had he not done that, he likely wouldn't have been.

Me too, and it was great that Scherzer was good again over the weekend... but Jesus (not Montero), they've been coasting on their starters and getting 1-2 runs, then getting killed when relief comes in.

Just like right now.

Yeah where the fuck is the offense? See, teams like the Yankees and Rangers get to parlay a shitload of offensive talent into a shitload of runs, but the Tigers can't do shit. Even if we added a healthy Victor Martinez to the lineup, I bet it wouldn't make a damn bit of difference.

Youkilis can take his sweet time drinking beer rehabbing his injury as far as I'm concerned.  This team just needs to give guys like Middlebrooks as many at-bats as they can this year since they won't be spending any more money any time soon.

I know a third of the team is on the shelf now, but these replacements are making it look like the Giants have the worst farm system in baseball. That thing last night definitely was the worst infield.

Miguel Batista is giving up base hits to Juan Pierre. I have a really terrible feeling about this game. Fuck appropriate player development, I say, bring up Familia. He hasn't been good at AAA and he's gotta work on some pitches, but fuck it, he may as well do that with the Mets. At least Familia gives me some kind of reason to watch this fucking game.

Before tonight, the Mets scored 57% of their runs with 2 outs. They scored 4 more tonight that way. They lead the league in that category. The plan form here on out is to start the inning with 2 outs now.

18 Total bases for Hamilton, only the third player in MLB history to get that in a game.

Hamilton homered in the ninth inning yesterday, so he has five home runs in his last six at bats.

First guy since Carlos Delgado in 03, and only the 16th all-time

The first one I remember is when Mark Whiten did it in 93, that was the most random shit ever

Strange as it may sound, the 4 Home Runs In One Game Club may be the only HR related club that did not explode with new membership during the steroid era.

Well, you COULD interpret it that way as 5 of the 16 have come since the start of the 1990s, but when compared to stuff like the single season and all time total "clubs" it could be considered a surprise that it only happened 5 times in the last 20 years.

1894 Bobby Lowe Braves
1896 Ed Delahanty Phillies
1932 Lou Gehrig Yankees
1936 Chuck Klein Phillies
1948 Pat Seerey White Sox
1950 Gil Hodges Dodgers
1954 Joe Adcock Braves
1959 Rocky Colavito Indians
1961 Willie Mays Giants
1976 Mike Schmidt Phillies
1986 Bob Horner Braves
1993 Mark Whiten Cardinals
2002 Mike Cameron Mariners
2002 Shawn Green Dodgers
2003 Carlos Delgado Blue Jays
2012 Josh Hamilton Rangers
