Yelawolf Thread
« on: June 16, 2012, 03:30:18 PM »
Since the rap/hip hop thread has become a giant mega thread, and a lot of brilliant music gets overlooked here and there, I'm just going to create a thread for today's best rapper. Since he's coming out with a bunch of shit in the next few months, like the Heart of Dixie EP, I'll just jam everything in here. I don't have much else to say. Y'all know how I feel about his music. He just released a heartfelt song about Father's Day. Cause he keeps it real.

We can post some of his better old songs too I guess.

I've always thought that the rap/hip hop thread was really the Yelawolf thread.

Took us meeting in Denmark to solidify our album, but Country Cuzins is assured. Myself and BIG K.R.I.T. presented by DJ Skee in progress!

If you get the chance to see him, you should. I don't know if he still does it, but he used to stage dive before he ruptured his spleen. And he chugs down rum and whiskey and shit throughout the concert. Does a bunch of shit. I heard he performs a great show. Gonna be in Brooklyn here in November.

Mixtape of the year so far. If you don't like this, Yelawolf isn't for you. His sound is tough to pin down because he's a bit eccentric but this product captures the essence of Yelawolf more so than anything else he's put out. That sounds metaphysical or whatever, but I always felt he should be creating this type of sound. His best work so far.

I like your mini-review. Would you still say it's the best mixtape of the year so far? I liked it a lot, but I don't listen to much present-day rap.

I haven't listened to many mixtapes this year (I've only heard some of Acid Rap by Chance The Rapper, who people really love). But it has to be in the discussion.

Dipset just extended the run of mediocre rappers making passable songs. So they get props for that

YOu better hope byron doesn't come in here.

I can't believe you didn't go with the "Brooks Zoolander" name handle though, especially when you used a Zoolander reference in the title.

Best album of the year. I haven't finished listening to Kendrick Lamar's but that shit is too exhausting.

First song, Outer Space, is like HELP I'M A ROCK except it's even spacier and shit. Change, Empty Bottles, and Sky's The Limit brings you back to his Creekwater days. I heard trombones and shit.

The rest is the best country rap album ever made. The middle of the album would make a great Sons of Anarchy soundtrack or some modern western movie. The singles sound new again, in the midst of the entire story. The only feature is Eminem who goes into one of his trademark SNOT SHOT WORLD ROTFSFOJS verses, but it fits within the context of the song, which Yelawolf nails.

This album puts him at the top of the hook and singing rap game. I don't understand why he didn't sing all his hooks in Radioactive when he never fails to put out some soulful hooks. There's so much soul in this album, great stuff. Worth the purchase next week.

I still need to check this out.  I had this in my cart on Amazon a few weeks ago and never ended up checking out.  Got the notice they bumped the price up  :(  Have to suck it up and buy it.
