I'm just eagerly awaiting the next time the Red Sox battle the Bronx Bombers.

I was away from a computer most of the weekend (I posted from my Kindle), so I didn't get a chance to note the absurdity of Scott Kazmir being spotted a 14 run lead and being unable to earn the win.

If MLB isn't going to let the A's move to San Jose can they instead let them play the Astros 162 times a year? They are looking dreadful against any team with a pulse.

Fully expected the A's offense to fizzle out and come back to reality, but their pitching rotation has been awful in their last starts with the exception of Parker ( a 1-0 loss, haha).

I guess they got tired of giving the fans hope during pre-June regular season games.

With a full complement of bench players available, Clint Hurdle executed a double switch that resulted in Clint Barmes and John McDonald hitting back to back late in a one run game.  It's especially awesome because Hurdle had said they acquired McDonald to allow them to hit for Barmes late in the game and put McDonald in on defense.  He really is just an unbelievably bad in game manager.

The Cubs may have the best worst closing bullpen in MLB this year.

Phillies' prospect Jesse Biddle had an all time great game for Reading yesterday. Seven innings, 16 strikeouts and he hit two doubles to top it off.

My favorite Astro stat of the season. Rick Ankiel leads the team in slugging percentage, and is last on the team in On Base Percentage.

Nothing like a rain delay in the 8th inning of a 13-0 game. They should put in a rule to have a 10+ run game like this be called automatically instead of delaying it.

#11 for Justin Upton. Imagine how good he'd be if he hustled and played the game right.

Marlins gonna Marlins

http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/2013/04/23/jose-fernandez-starting-game-one-for-marlins-in-doubleheader-at-target-field/

Quote
The Marlins have swapped double-header pitchers, starting rookie Jose Fernandez in game one and Ricky Nolasco in game two.

By starting Fernandez, who’d been slated for start game two, in the first game, the Marlins get a marquee attraction for their Fox Sports Florida broadcast.

Only game one will be televised, with game two only on the radio.

Rumor is ownership forced the starter switch to get Fernandez to start in the televised game, overruling manager Mike Redmond.

The Orioles finally lost an extra inning game.

The Nats are now under .500 and if not for a complete meltdown by the Met bullpen on Saturday they are on a six game losing streak.  Their offense doesn't seen to be the same without Zimmerman

Both of these plays actually happened today:

Chris Nelson triples (2) on a line drive to second baseman Dan Uggla.
Starling Marte triples (3) on a pop up to second baseman Chase Utley.

The crazy thing about the Marte play is that he didn't start running until he was half way to second.  Had he gone all the way he likely has a pop up homer.

Wedge knows he's on his last legs before he gets fired and it's great. He had some good quotes on Figgins recently too.

Carlos Carrasco, previously suspended for throwing at Kevin Youkilis earlier this season, was hit by a line drive on his pitching elbow in a minor league start. (I wasn't in attendance.)

Possibly the worst start ever for Jonathan Sanchez.

Batter 1: Homer
Batter 2: Homer
Batter 3: Single
Batter 4: HBP
Ejection

Kind of a crazy ejection though.  Sanchez obviously has no control and he'd only hit one batter, but got an immediate hook from Tim Timmons.  Clint Hurdle came out to argue and Timmons looked angrier than he did.

Was at the A's game last night. They haven't scored a single run in either game I've been to. Maybe this slide will end tomorrow when Cespedes is back. They're 17-31 since last season when he isn't in the line up.

Like clockwork, Cespedes returns the line up and the A's actually win a game. The pitching continues to be awful although some of it has to do with terrible defense by anyone not named Josh Donaldson.

And boy was this thread dead this week.

Detroit faces the team with the highest ERA in the AL - gets swept, two games are shut-out losses.

Detroit faces the team with the lowest ERA in the NL - dominates, ruins ERAs, ruins relievers having not allowed a run, and ruins the "The Braves win every game where they hit a home run" streak.

This is why I love, and can get very frustrated with, this game.

Carlos Marmol is pitching well and Kevin Gregg has saves, I have yet to figure out how to process one of those things. Processing both things at once may cause me a stroke.

The pitching is going through this weird process where they start decent, end decent, but all seem to have a 1-2 inning span where they can't get the defense off the field and surrender 3-4 runs. Then go back to being ok.

I was there on Saturday and Griffin seemed to be coasting along, then gives up a 4 run inning, then goes back to being fine. It's frustrating to watch.

Cespedes makes all the difference in this lineup, even when he himself is not doing particularly great.  Hopefully Reddick can catch some of his mojo and use it because Reddick has been on the decline for awhile now.
