There was a Nintendo Direct for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U yesterday. I guess one big piece of news is that local games can have up to 8 players.

Also, Bayonetta 2 is out today.

I thought that Smash having so much content in it was neat. Smash Tour is basically tossing Mario Party into the game. Also Amiibos being able to be leveled up, utilizing your special versions of characters from the 3DS and the regular roster probably allows for 4 different types of tournaments to be held.

Gonna be quite a while before I get to play it.

So... I moved into a house with a WiiU, and thus was able to pick up Bayonetta 2.

HOLY. SHIT.

Majora's Mask comes to the 3DS in the spring. I was hoping they'd port it eventually. I've only ever gotten a few hours into it and I know I need to play the whole thing, so this will be the time.

The first Mario Kart DLC expansion pack comes out next Thursday. I kind of wish the Animal Crossing one came out first but I'm a weirdo.

I never played the original Majora's Mask.  Did Nintendo say if this is a complete overhaul like Ocarina or a port?

A bunch of teens treat the original Nintendo system like it's some sort of primitive technology:

I never realized that blowing into the game could hurt it.

It was announced that Marth, Villager and Wii Fit Trainer have been discontinued as Wii U figures.  Prices are skyrocketing out the ass on Ebay.  I've personally sold 9 Villagers for $30 each.

What I've learned from NES Remix: the controls for the original Mario Bros. game were horrible.  I mean, holy shit how did that series get as big as it did after that shit?

Given the sheer glut of shit game releases around the time of the Video Game Crash, even something like Mario Bros was at least playable by comparison.

Nintendo Direct went up this morning. First bits of news include a new Fire Emblem game for 3DS, that Puzzle & Dragons (plus Mario) 3DS game, and Wii titles becoming available as digital downloads on Wii U. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is available now; Punch-Out!! Jan 22; Metroid Prime Trilogy Jan 29. They're half-price within their release week; SMG2 is $10 now. eShop re-releases launch without having to switch over to Wii Mode. I don't think it's the case with Wii disc games.

There's also Pokemon Shuffle, which seems to be a 3DS Candy Crush clone—free-to-play, with turn restrictions, and everyone's idea of fun: paying real money to not wait to play the game.

New Nintendo 3DS XL (yes, they're keeping that name) is out Feb 13. Only the XL, in black or red. Not mentioned in the video, but looks like it'll be $200USD—same as the original 3DS XL. Canada is up to $230CAD... which is still better than the current exchange rate.

Face-tracking 3D screen, and automatic brightness dimming. Improved load times, processing power, and battery life. Analog C Stick (nub), and additional ZL & ZR shoulder buttons. Switch from SD cards to microSD. NFC/amiibo support.

No AC adapter included. :|

There's all sorts of new features in the New 3DS, but nothing that I've seen that's worth getting a new system for.  The longer battery life is nice, but is it $200 nice?  Plus I just don't like the XL.  Why the hell aren't they bringing the regular size to NA?

Fuck you, that's how.  In all seriousness though, they're probably expecting people to use their old 3DS chargers, assuming they're compatible, or buy it separately.

Chargers from the whole 3DS family, and going back to the DSi (but not the DS or DS Lite) are all inter-compatible. From an efficiency standpoint, it makes some sense; I don't know how many people buying a New 3DS will already have a usable charger. It just kinda stinks to not include everything required to use a system in the box. Goes back to the PS1 days of having to buy memory cards and RF adapters.

Well my thought is that it's dumb not to include an adapter as that fucks over people who don't already own one from a previous device. Colossal smh moment right there.

Nintendo is only interested in catering to their dwindling base.  It was only a few years ago that their strategy of trying to expand their appeal beyond their typical audience helped them to sell 150 million DSes and 100 million Wiis but then they read all the articles from the gaming press about how casual gaming is killing the industry and they went hardcore to grab all those lapsed Gamecube fans :(

Also, Fire Emblem is bringing out a new game called If. If will have things supposedly change due to the choices you make. About all that's been said on that.

I don't think it's necessarily the articles from the press badmouthing casual gaming, as it is that so many of those casual gamers bought a Wii for Wii Sports and then NOTHING else.

Honestly, all Nintendo needs to do is keep bringing out good games. That's really it. Hell, I still enjoy Fire Emblem for my DS and even if it drives me nuts in the later half of it, Bravely Default. Sure, RPGs, but still good games that are fun to pick up and go.

Even if they only bring their own studios to make their games, that's the best thing about Nintendo systems. You just know the quality will be there.

Best Buy gave me a $50 discount code that the email said could be used on the regular 3ds xl and similar products. I expected it not to work on the regular New 3ds (I feel for all the people who are going to accidentally buy a regular 3ds because of the retarded name) but it actually did. So still FUCK YOU NINTENDO, but assuming they don't cancel this pre-order I'll get the New 3ds XL for $150. I'll take it.

Nintendo is shutting down Club Nintendo, which means you have until 3/31 to redeem codes for coins, and until 6/30 to cash in your coins for products.  Actual physical goods are most likely sold out (or will be soon), but a bunch of virtual console games are available for the WiiU and 3DS - https://club.nintendo.com/rewards.do

So I've decided I totally want a Wii U because all my friends have one and swear by the damn thing. The only thing that worries me is the fact that if Nintendo is planning on coming out with a new system anytime soon it seems like a short term investment.

I'm not sure about the Classic Controller, but the Pro Controller is compatible with mostly everything. You still do have to interact with the Tablet Controller though on some level, though.

What are you looking to play on it?
