Scott Steiner: American Patriot

Nowinski makes some really good points here and it's embarrassing that Steiner was booked as the face here. Even at 12 years old, I knew that Nowinski was right.

These fans look incredibly stupid in retrospect.

"Do we invade and overthrow every government that doesn't share the worldview of our country's administration?"

*CHEER!*

It was ludicrous for them to expect Scott Steiner to hold his own in a debate with a Harvard graduate. Hell, Steiner isn't even coherent 75% of the time!

This makes me wish Nowinski was brought back when Hassan was around. Think of the nuclear heat they would get. For being right!

Muhammad Hassan was one of my favorite characters. All he did was speak out against racism in America and they booed him for it.

I want Chris Nowinski back on my TV screen. He was one of the best heels to come along in years.

Scotty went to a "highly educated university" and would be more than happy to lecture you on percentages, I assure you.

I agreed wholeheartedly with Nowinski. If the debate had continued, Nownski would have completely ripped Steiner. We Aussies joined you in Iraq for god knows why, there have been no terrorist attacks ever here.

Bush promised your government a part of the oil money and didn't pay you and there's nothing they can do about it because they can't come out and say that they went to war for oil money and can't fight against the American's.

Ya saying the Aussies aren't going to turn heel and stab us in the back?*

*I guess if TI is right , US would displaying some highly heelish behavior. But I guess if America was a wrestler, it'd be '80s Hulk Hogan, an extremely popular lumbering oaf who hates foreigners and fatties and means well but can really be kind of a dick sometimes.

And I'm writing this post sober. Who's the dumbass now?

Where was this Raw?

This is from the April 14, 2003 edition of RAW and that was held in Richmond, Virginia.

If I were to make a list of the reasons I don't watch wrestling anymore, this angle would be in the top 10.

Actually for me too. WWE should never ever attempt to do social/political commentary (See this, the Slaughter as an Iraqi sympathizer angle, The Mexicools, and Muhammad Hassan). Oh, I forgot the Hillary and Barack impersonators dukin' it out on RAW last year.

Ironically, their portrayal of Muhammad Hassan early on showed that the writers are capable of doing it decently. The fans booing Hassan right out of the gate proved that the audience isn't willing to accept complex social commentary.

I actually wonder how much of the bad writing in WWE could be blamed on the writers thinking the fans are bunch of idiots.

I'm pretty sure every thing on that hypothetical list could be traced back to the overall juvenile attitude about what constitutes entertainment, but also my reluctance to tacitly condone the physical and psychological strain put on people in the business by watching.
