Deals & Discounts on TV Shows & Movies
« on: September 21, 2013, 06:24:32 AM »
Just wanted to start a thread after seeing the one in our Videogames section.  I try to save $$ whenever possible and figure with the variety of sites out there, we can keep each other abreast of outstanding sales or deals going on.

Information to Try to Include: Item Name, List Price vs Sale Price, URL to Item, When Deal or Sale Ends (if known).

I'll kick it off...

Amazon: Blu-Ray 20th Anniversary 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' On sale for $16.96 vs. $36.99.  Not sure when deal ends but site says may take 1-2 extra days to process.

I never take the "retail" price that seriously because I've never seen anything listed at Amazon or in the stores with the inflated SRP.

Warner Brothers online store has complete Nightmare on Elm Street Blu-ray set on sale for $23.98.  They do free shipping on $25, so I added The Ring Blu for $5.49.

Then I added ANYCODES5 promo code for another $5 off.  After tax I got the complete NOES and Ring Blu for $26.12.

Also, for deal hunters, I don't know if anyone uses eBates.  They are giving 4.5% cashback at Warner Brothers right now, so I should get an extra buck and change back.  I love eBates so anyone interested check it out:
http://www.ebates.com/rf.do?referrerid=9GbfQWkWO2Z9cyKDTo6Kgg%3D%3D

That link is supposed to give extra bonus to both of us if you use it.  I usually get a nice rebate check after holidays, when they bump some crazy cash back.

From what I read on one of my deal sites, it'd been up and down.  This is like the third time in the last month it hit that price but apparently it was only that low for a few hours yesterday.

Amazon also matched a bunch of Best Buy prices for TV on Blu-ray.  They have Boardwalk Empire 3 for $16.99 and other bigger sets at that price.  Stuff like Breaking Bad Season Five for $11.99.

After years of getting deals to the point of having too many, I'm really trying not to buy every huge markdown like this over the next week.

For anybody wavering about certain titles, I cannot recommend the following site enough...

DVDPriceSearch.com

An example: It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown on Blu-Ray for $13.99 at Amazon yet it's $16.96 Walmart.com and $19.99 at BestBuy.com (next 2 cheapest).

It usually isn't much but on some Blu-Rays & DVDs, you can save yourself $5+ depending on the site w/free shipping.

Picked up Seasons 1-4 of Sons of Anarchy on Blu-Ray today for about 50$ total. Hoping season 5 drops in price soon.

Also got Taken 2, Fight Club, Boondock Saints, Scream 4, and Star Trek into Darkness ....28$ for all 5.

Amazon runs some awesome deals on blu-rays right now. Go to blu-ray.com they have a tracker there to keep up with whats on sale.

Yup 3am east coast time.....I am all over that Bond deal, thats crazy and reminds me of how low they got on the LOST bluray box set either last year or the year before, it was something crazy like 89 bucks or something.

If anyone has 3d capabilities and want some deals on 3d blurays, Amazon is most definately the place to check. Most are hovering around $15 a pop right now. I picked up WWZ, Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters, Pacific Rim, and the Hobbit 3d all for around that price each.

I ended up caving in and ordering a couple movies...

Best Buy -

Blu-ray Combo packs of Hangover III and Pacific Rim, It's Always Sunny Season 7 Blu-ray and Community Season 4 for like $26 after a $5 Reward Certificate

Amazon -

Conjuring Blu-ray for $7.99 and This is the End Blu-ray for like $12

I just got home and think I may check out the 24-hour Wal-Mart for last minute scraps, as I noticed a couple from their ad I wouldn't mind picking up if they are still around.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00543RC0Y/

Amazon UK has the full series of Harry Potter on Blu-ray for £17.99. After removing VAT, and adding shipping, I'm getting a total of £18.07. Basic conversion (ignoring credit card fees) puts that at about $31.45CAD. That'd be about $29.55USD.

They might be basic discs, lacking extras. DVD version reviews talk about scenes having been cut. At $4 per movie, it doesn't really matter to me, so I ordered it.

They had some great prices and Amazon/Best Buy matched some of them.

For those interested in The Hobbit Blu-ray, the standard version hit probably the lowest price since its been out as Best Buy has it for $9.99 (which has been matched by Amazon).  The extended just came out so it may stay low going forward.

Heads up for the recent comic book movies on Blu-ray - this Sunday the 15th, Beat Buy will have Man of Steel for $9.99 and Target will have The Wolverine for $12.  Odds are by Sunday afternoon, Amazon will likely pricematch.

$9.99 price live with Best Buy and Amazon now.

Wolverine for $12 isn't matched from Target yet but there is a Target $3 coupon for it.  Gonna swing by there on my way to the Suns game tonight to see if I can find the Target edition with some bonus extras for $9.

Anyone interested, the coupon is on the app Shopkick, which gets you points for going in stores that you can use to get giftcards and stuff.  You can sign up (with bonus points for the referral) on your phone at http://get.shopkick.com/hexagon18512

Closing Blockbusters are down to $3.99 for their used Blu-rays now.  I stopped in the one that is down the street from me and picked up The Bling Ring and The Master for about $8 and change. Figured $4 a piece was worth a shot.  Nothing too great looking left but I think there are supposed to be two more price drops.

So, going through my second liquidation at Blockbuster (where I work) and today was the first .99 cent day. And I just went crazy. Finally bought all the movies I had stashed. So if you visited a BB and a lot of the 'good stuff was gone'...employees likely had something to do with it. But, ridiculous haul for me. So yea! Lol. Losing a job, good movies for cheap is the least they could do.

Iron Man 3
Django Unchained
Hangover 3
Pain & Gain
Pacific Rim
A Knight's Tale
This is the End
Gatsby
Silver Linings Playbook
Oz
Forrest Gump
Spring Breakers
Scream 4
Boondock Saints II
Stuck in Love
Jennifer's Body
Admission
Incredible Burt Wonderstone
Killers
Last House on the Left
The Eye
Perfect Stranger
Weeds Season 3
Year One
Going the Distance
You Got Served: Beat the World (That's right!)
Risky Business
Norbit

All on Blu-ray! For .99. You can probably tell where the list changes from stuff I reserved to stuff that was left that I thought hmm, sure I'll pick that up for a dollar lol. But if you still have any around you, they all close Sunday! So check them out, there still may be plenty of stuff. Some of them still have games, and they're now 80% off.

Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

When I was in there on $1.99 day, I had seen Jeff Who Lives at Home and Invention of Lying, which I wanted to pick up but wasn't sure if I had or not.  I've always had a bad habit of picking up a ton of movies on sales, so I couldn't remember if I had those.

I went back today because I was too tired to go on the price drop last night.  Sad to see the games were wiped out, found Jeff Who Lives at Home but Invention of Lying was gone.  Got the following for $11.46:

Blu-ray
Red Lights
Please Give
Your Sister's Sister
My Soul to Take
Jeff Who Lives at Home
Intruders
Micmacs
Night of the Demons

DVD
FreakDance (Upright Citizens Brigade dance movie)
Virginity Hit
Liberal Arts

Not a lot I was actively seeking but figured a buck a pop is cheaper than renting.

The Shield complete series. $30.99. If you don't already own this then you'd be a cunt to pass this deal up. Less than $5 a season.

I'm almost positive It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World is in the new $5 blu ray boxes @ Wal-Mart. (Along with Robin Hood Men in Tights, and Rocky Horror which I actually did buy.)

Also just checked and Silver Linings Playbook and Django Unchained are $18 blu @ Best Buy. And I wouldn't be surprised to see them at $10/$15 in future sales there. Not sure if $30 for a single movie is really a good deal.

Ok. When I said The Shield: the complete series was a steal a couple weeks back at $31, I meant it. But now at $25 it would be irresponsible for you to pass it up now.
