Holy shit Mirsad Bektic did Lucas Martins dirrrrty. That's the type of performance he needed after going to the judges in his first two UFC fights.

Strike of the night is still Jimmo getting kicked in the nuts.

Was the case until Condit crammed Alves' nose into the back of his head.

I'm still sort of stunned by this. I really thought the combo of Condit's long layoff plus the commission saying they wouldn't be drug testing either guy since they have clean histories would mean Alves picking apart a tentative Condit for a decision win... even with how badly Alves looked in his last fight.

Alves has pissed hot before on the record and long been suspected of juicing prior to that. Who the hell said he had a clean history?

Prior to the knee injury, Condit looked like an animal even in his losses and was starting to hit his peak. I never had a doubt he would put a beating on banged up Alves.

I think Condit still needs to rematch either Woodley or Hendricks in a 3 rounder to prove that his TDD has been upped enough. I know that everybody wants 5 round fights for guys like that but he needs to prove that he can win a 15 minute fight. Obviously the Alves win is a step in the right direction but I still think 3 rounders are his kryptonite.

..but the whole point of having 5-round fights is so that we always see what the elites are made of.

With the quality of fight cards the way they are, Condit should never be in a non-main event unless he's fighting for a title on a stacked card. It seems like with his style, it's a no-brainer.

I guess that's maybe the point I was trying to make: it's not a guarantee he's going to get every fight as a 5 rounder, it's totally plausible that he rematches Woodley or fights Brown in a co-main event that's for #1 contender.

Kerr estimates he made $1.8 million fighting for the Japanese, big money in MMA at the time. He lived lavishly when he could, adding an “unbelievably expensive” place in Santa Monica, Calif., to go with his home in Phoenix. He claimed four cars, two at each location.

"I needed at least three fights a year to sustain the lifestyle,” Kerr said.

This is crazy considering it's not too far off from what a lot of top stars make now in a much more favourable climate. But Kerr fucked it up like he fucked up a lot in his life.

http://www.si.com/mma/2015/05/21/mark-kerr-former-mma-champ-reflects-on-career-future?page=8&devicetype=default

Amazing long-form article, brings back lots of memories of hoping to see Kerr finally turn it around. Never had a chance without the painkillers though.

Quote
The first name musician to come through the storied venue was Eddie Money, the New York City police officer turned rocker who strung together hits in the '70s and '80s. Off went the roller coaster. A friend with a car asked Kerr if he would take a two-and-a-half-hour ride to setup for Bon Jovi in Saratoga, N.Y. Two tickets to paradise? Check, please.

Kerr’s aptitude for lifting and moving heavy things led to better roadie assignments. He worked the Grateful Dead at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. Starting in Raleigh, N.C., he toured during the hottest part of the summer with The Who. Hitched rides brought him to Kansas City, then Boulder and, lastly, Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego.

The pressure to build and disassemble stages prompted the tour’s senior management to use drugs to amp up the crew’s work rate, Kerr said.

"You'd have a production trailer and you'd get a boss calling you on the mic, time for lunch,” Kerr said. “You'd come in, they'd pull a drawer open, there'd be a pile of cocaine. I was told to take what I need, but I had to have a job done by this hour."

Damn never knew that's how he started with the drugs, snorting lines with MICK JAGGER this guy had a crazy fuckin' life. Read this story to appreciate the road to the Octagon's current success that Dana likes to ignore.

Also found out he's half Puerto Rican. I always thought he looked like a non-white, so it's the same feeling of confirmation as when I learned Lawler is half-Filipino.

Strong words from Chael. I like his humility in deferring to guys like Florian and Cruz. I don't know if I agree with him, some say he feels like Conor's taken some of his bits.

Mike Bohn @MikeBohnMMA

Alexander Gustafsson will be 15th fighter in UFC history to compete in a title bout after a loss. Six of those have been in past two years.

I remember when Justin Eilers getting picked for a title shot after the Buentello KO was a significant thing and shit on by everyone. But now it's not even surprising.

"Honestly, I do I feel bad for him. You know what that almost tells me, honestly? It almost doesn't matter what he does in any situation regardless of what's going on, it will be hard for him to get a title fight. Because if there was a situation where he was going to get one, this would be it. If they didn't give him a chance now, probably they never will.

Everything was there. From his press conference stunt to him being the only guy in the division on a win streak, if I was Ryan and his team I'd be pretty bummed out right now actually."

Ryan seemed the most natural guy for the title shot, regardless of what you think of his chances. This seems cold, and the way he worded it...I can't come up with the words but it just reminds me of a HONKY TONK MAN style of carrying oneself. Jones is gonna come back as the Ultimate Warrior, coked up and everything.

Rivera has crazy power. He reached with that left hook almost like an afterthought, and it still laid Bruce Leeroy out.

Not a good look when a guy who is borderline top ten in a tough division is begging for a bonus. "PLEASE DANA I REALLY NEED IT" makes me more uncomfortable than the vicious KO that happened beforehand.

Damn Joe Soto got killed, he's taken a lot of shots and never seemed to have the best chin to begin with. Birchak is a good finisher, really used a variety of strikes. I thought bantamweights weren't supposed to finish each other with strikes?

This Tavares fight should be good too. The main event is a joke (these promos of Tim talking about his power are making me queasy) but the undercard is stacked.

This UFC Training Day show looks cool. Funny that Dana shit on AKA so much recently lirl

Wow I was gonna say that was one of the best fights of the year, and maybe it's the excitement but that might be one of the best fights I've ever seen. I can't remember the last time I saw that much action in one fight. The standup was a bit sloppy but still p. good and the ground fighting was ELITE and where the fight took place for most of the first two rounds anyway. The amount of false finishes rivaled a WWE Raw main event.

Both of these guys were super tough but Ortega is a new breed. Action all the way through, unreal fight. Check it out if you didn't see it.

His extra punches after getting a guy out are always nasty. Fedor ate those as well.

That card impressed the hell out of me. Flash knockouts at Bantamweight, Ortega surgically removing a guy's eyebrow from his back, BEN ROTHWELL SUBMISSION MASTAH~! and Hendo proving yet again that most UFC fighters are simply too dumb to stay the fuck away from his right hand.

Honourable mention to the excellently-executed gameplan of "Hey, Ebersole puts a lot of weight on his front leg... oh wait, not any more he can't."
