True Detective
« on: January 12, 2014, 03:52:13 AM »
Starts tonight on HBO. McConaughey has been on fire the last few years and Woody Harrelson is typically great.

I was just telling my wife about this and set the DVR.  As I understand it, each season will be a totally different setting and cast.  I am looking forward to this.

I think I'm going to wait until all the episodes are on the DVR to start it.  Really looking forward to it though.

Really looking forward to this, but I'm going to have to watch it Mondays before work since it's going head to head with Shameless.

If it is as good as people are saying it will be, I will have some solid television viewing for a few straight Sundays with this and Sherlock.

That was really great. McConaughey already owns this role and that dinner scene was painful. 2012 Rust looks like hell warmed over. The opening titles and theme song deserve mention because they were top notch.

I was amazed at how good the makeup was on this. Most of the time, when movies and/or shows try to make an actor look younger, it fails. They really made McConaughey and Harrelson look like they were 20 years younger.

Also, just give McConaughey every acting award already.

"The Godfather: Part Iraq" (2004) In this 4th installment of the Godfather series, the godfathers head to iraq to settle the score, of 9/11.

He's turned his career around the past few years, and he's done some amazing work. I had read that he said he's passed on a lot of big budget movies that would have made him a lot of money because he's tired of making crap.

This premier was so fantastic. It's going to be an awesome ride. And I read that they are doing the AHS deal with a different story each season. I can get behind that.

First episode was spectacular. Can't wait to see where this goes. I loved Woody's line about "From now on, this car is strictly for silent reflection."

Yeah I was really digging this too. There was a feeling of some serious dread in the first episode, and Im sure that vibe is going to continue. Apparently there will be another specific year they venture to as well so they focus on three different time periods/points essentially.

I like that the entire eight episode run will be written by the same singular person for it all, as well as a separate single director for the entire run too. Very cool.

MM lately has just been something. Dallas Buyers Club probably will get him the Oscar this year for his performance, also he was great in Wolf of Wall Street and Mud this past year, Killer Joe year prior, could go on and on. He's most definitely taking on some great and challenging roles for him lately.

I have seen what I want to do with my life, and it is Alexandra Daddario.

Also, they should recast her as Wonder Woman in the Superman/Batman movie.

I guess one perk of being executive producer on your own show is that you can get yourself that kind of scene.

I know Alexandra Daddario had rockin titz, but what an ass. Perfection

The cinematography is so good. Those shots during Rust's hallucinations were beautiful.

It's the McConaughey show, but I really love the 4 or 5 shots (per show) of a perplexed Woody staring at Rust after he says something odd. Rust Cohle is becoming one of my favorite tv characters and it's a testament to McConaughey's talent that he plays the 95 and 2012 versions so differently.

Also, I really love the opening theme song and title sequence. It sets the mood perfectly.

Smokin' titties aside, this is a really good show and everything everyone said about how it's more about the two leads and their relationship than the central mystery is dead-on and appreciated.

Woody killed as well. Psycho stalker Woody is more horrifying than that ending figure. Marty is a huge piece of shit. That final monologue was the emmy clinch for McConaughey. Best episode of the three.

I'd call that an early front-runner for best TV episode of the year.  Simply superb.  Now we start to see the gaps in what people other than Rust and Marty know about everything, and that's a pretty big freaking gap.

That whole robbery sequence was just as intense in hell.  So much going on. I knew it was what would be closing the episode once it began, but I so didn't want the episode to be over.

I can't wait for this show to end so I can go back to see what things I missed the first time. I've already pre-ordered this on Blu-Ray, and I never do that with HBO shows since they can be pricey. Last night was just fucking amazing. When they were telling the story and it was happening nothing like what they were saying was so great.

That fight was a long time coming and it was worth it. Loved Rust with the Steven Seagal moves to put Marty through the tail light and the SPEAR.

That scene with Rust and the girl he saved was skin crawling.

I love Woody using that executive producer credit to grope on smoking hot girls half his age. First Alexandra Daddario and now Beth with the butt.
