Somebody Call 911! Connor is Watching ECPW On Fire (11-16-13)

Welcome to another recap of ECPW action. It was kind of a harrowing week for me. I had not only one but two dreams revolving around the show, basically they were different versions of the same dream; I show up early to a WOF show and somehow find myself advertised for the show (in one, I was advertised as TV Champion somehow!) despite having no training as a pro wrestler. In the second one, I asked Mario Savoldi why he would do such a thing and he said it was because I wrote so many mean things about the show.

So I promise to be extra nice about this week’s show.

The old guys, Joey G and Tommy Savoldi are hosting the studio segments this week. Tommy Savoldi is looking rather pensive and him and Joey G promise to delve into what really happened  last week’s Tommy’s Corner with Ken Reedy.

Mo Sexton (with The Candy Man) Vs Mike Donovan

Ugh, the old guys are commentating too. My promise to be extra nice? REVOKED! Tommy and Joey start off by grousing about how none of the wrestlers use Frank Sinatra or “nice fifties music” for entrance music. Mo Sexton comes out with a chubby guy in a pimp hat named The Candy Man who hands out candy to the kids in the audience. Pretty sure this is illegal in 38 states. Joey G and Tommy eat some of the candy and declare that “it sucks!” What a weird way to start the show. At one point during the match during a brawling segment outside the ring, this exchange happens;

Joey G: Hey Tommy, what’s going on here!?

Tommy: I DON’T KNOW! THEY’RE OUTSIDE THE RING!

Ugh, to make it worse, Joey G wanders off halfway through the match and Tommy “calls the match” solo. The commentary for this match reminds me of when my dad wanders in the room while I’m watching wrestling (WHAT IS THIS? When is this from? The ’80s? Wow! That guy’s fat! Who are these guys? Why is the ring so small?) Joey G wanders back in and says we’re going to have a Three Way Match for the ECPW Light Heavyweight title next week. Boy, oh boy! Haven’t seen one of those on this show in a while. This match is actually not terrible (it’s not good either) but I don’t think Steamboat-Flair would be enough to distract me from this commentary. Sexton finishes Donovan off with a superkick and Savoldi and Joey G mark out. Sexton passes out more candy in celebration. C+ for the match, F- for the commentary.

We get an ad for the ECPW Wrestling School. Is it a sign???

Sam “The Machine” Shields Vs Danny Dubstep

Thank goodness, that Tommy Savoldi’s left the commentary booth and replaced by some guy named Allen K. Allen K, Joey G are your commentators. What is this a commentating team or an AA Meeting? After watching this show, I wish I was drunk. Joey G bitches more about the entrance music and mentions Allen K is a member of the ECPW Board of Director and tries to get him to use his sway to make the wrestlers use Dean Martin as entrance music. We haven’t seen either of these wrestlers in a while. Joey G and Allen K both point out that we’ve seen ECPW wrestlers almost exclusively the past few months and we haven’t seen many WOF Stars. I like they acknowledge something I’ve been pointing out for weeks even if they haven’t done anything to correct it.  The kids in the crowd love Dubstep for some reason.  Joey G is annoyed by all of Dubstep’s yelling. I bet he wishes he was Danny Swing Music. The bully Shields drops the bass and wins with a flying clothesline. This match was the definition of mixed bag but it had some energy and didn’t have Tommy Savoldi on commentary. C+

Joey G and Tommy Savoldi try to wrap up the show but Ken Reedy shows up (no goatee anymore but we know he’s a heel because he’s wearing SUNGLASSES) and can’t believe the old geezers tried to do a show without him. Me neither, Ken, me neither. Reedy says the show is nothing without him. Reedy and Savoldi propose a summit next week to discuss the state of Wrestling On Fire. Reedy and Savoldi tell Joey G he’s not invited. We’ll get to the bottom of…whatever’s going on with this company next week. Maybe. Probably not.

With the Thanksgiving holidays approaching, I’m thankful that Joey G and Tommy Savoldi aren’t the commentary team every week. Any instances of me talking about how fun Tommy Savoldi’s confused old man commentary can be? REVOKED!

Wrestling on the show was fine but forgettable. Kind of a placeholder show this week with no real storylines being advanced but it’s kind of good to have those once in a while. Guys got put over (Sexton seems like he’s being pushed as the top babyface)  so I’m going look at this as the glass being half full. And hope to God that The Savoldis don’t book me against Crazy Ivan this week at the Paramus Elks Lodge.
