WWE Superstars – 8/22/2013

Superstars opens this week with former 2-time World Heavyweight Champion, Christian, making his way to the ring.  Riley and Dawson want to talk about Summerslam while not acknowledging the World Heavyweight Championship match featuring the man making his entrance.

Big E Langston comes out next as they talk about his only matches on Pay-Per-View to date have been Wrestlemania and Summerslam.

Christian vs. Big E Langston

As the bell rings, the announcers finally bring up Christian was in (what should be considered) a fairly important match at Summerslam too.

Riley brings up Christian’s championship history including Hardcore and Light-Heavyweight reigns while Langston almost easily shoves Christian out of the ring.

Langston charges Christian with a big shoulder and looks to completely overpower the savvy veteran early.

Christian tries to lock up Big E but finds himself in the corner getting smashed into the turnbuckles.

As Big E dominates with power, Christian tries to use his speed.  He dodges outside the ring and tries to come in behind Langston, who smashes him back down.  After battering Captain Charisma, he tries to press slam him.

Christian slips free and Langston is down on the ground outside the ring.  It doesn’t take long for Langston to pop back like a horror villain and start smashing Christian along the ringside barriers.  Christian is left lying as the first commercial break hits.

Back from break, Langston is twisting Christian’s head in the center of the ring.  He grounds and pounds the former champion and makes an unsuccessful pin attempt.

Langston continues to punch away and as he brings Christian to his feet, Christian gets a few good hits in before getting caught in a powerful bear hug from this generation’s Master of the Five Count.

Langston once again gets Christian up for a press slam and connects this time.  He runs the ropes and goes for a splash when Christian rolls out of the way.  Christian up and the crowd is being built into a frenzy.

Christian connects with a few hits and a clothesline.  Langston knocks him into the corner but Christian hits a elbow to Langston’s face before Big E can land another move.  Christian gets a quick cover unsuccessfully.

Christian connects with some of his second rope offense and starts getting the crowd riled but Big E lays him out with a nasty lariat.

2 count.

Big E throws Christian in another corner, Christian escapes and does a rollup for a two-count.

Langston grounds Christian and connects with a splash for another count of two.

Langston is up and the straps come down.  Christian crawls between his legs.  He ascends the turnbuckle and dives for a crossbody.  Langston smashes him in two different corners.  He throws Christian up for a Killswitch but Christian slides out and hits a Killswitch for the victory.

Winner: Christian

Christian celebrates in the ring, after coming out victorious in a match that helped Big E look great the whole way through.

Back from break, we see a recap of Cena-Bryan from Summerslam.  This goes into the opening segment from Monday’s RAW.

After a break, it is recap time for Punk-Lesnar and Monday’s aftermath.

Back to live action and Kofi Kingston is making his way to the ring.  Back three weeks and two of the them have been on Superstars.  Remember when he beat Randy Orton?

The music of JTG hits next.  I figure it has been a long time since I’ve seen JTG and a quick look shows me JTG hasn’t had a televised match since early April.

The announcers discuss these two used to be friends but now Kofi does not like JTG.

Kofi Kingston vs. JTG

The two men lock up in the center of the ring and I wonder if they reminisce about 2009.

Kofi quickly moves around JTG before knocking him down and doing his BOOM BOOM BOOM to the dismay of JTG.

JTG knocks Kofi down and then Kofi leaps over JTG for a couple runs of the ropes.  JTG does just enough to stun Kofi and get a two-count, which may end up being the peak of his offense in the match.

JTG chokes Kofi on the ropes, then runs out and slaps Kofi in the face before posing to minimal boos.

JTG back in the ring and gets rolled up.  After he kicks out, he continues maintaining control over Kofi, while mocking him yelling “THE BOOM BOOM MAN”.

Kofi delivers a chinbreaker to break free and then smacks a charging JTG back.  JTG charges again to receive a boot as Kofi ramps up his high octane offense with dives and kicks and jumps.

After downing the Brooklyn grappler, Kofi connects with a Boom Drop.  He signals to the crowd for his Trouble in Paradise but when he goes for it, JTG is able to run away.

JTG sets up the Mug Shot but Kofi shoves him off, Trouble in Paradise connects this time.

Winner: Kofi Kingston

As Kofi celebrates, Riley reminds us he called this match the Battle of Book Smarts versus Street Smarts and Kofi came out ahead.

Randy Orton’s Championship Coronation is re-aired next, which closes out another edition of WWE Superstars.
