Hello, everybody! Tonight’s the end (I think) of one of the biggest storylines in ECPW On Fire…Father finally faces Son one on one as Frankie Flow takes on his own flesh and blood Junior Flow in a no holds barred, strap match. I was ambivalent towards the storyline when it started but I got into it thanks to both guys’ performances. ECPW On Fire doesn’t have a great history of ending feuds in a logical way so we’ll see how it turns out. Crowd at the Paramus Elks Lodge seems bigger than usual for this grudge match. Let’s go down to ringside.
Team Shazam Vs Ricky Palmer and Tony Vega
Team Shazam is a new pairing of Kenny Bengal and former ECPW Light Heavyweight Champ Dan De Man. This is a clash of two teams at a cross roads. De Man’s momentum fizzled rapidly after losing the title and has been on a long losing streak while Palmer and Vega have shown flashes of greatness but it hasn’t translated into a decent win-loss record. This is a pretty decent tag team match. Simple, not too flashy outside of a few spots but a basic story told well. Palmer and Vega have the speed and athleticism advantage but Team Shazam are the smart, sneaky heels who grind the match to a halt and eventually get the win. Shazam wins when De Man blocks a sunset flip and grabs onto a towel Bengal’s holding outside the ring for leverage. B. Hopefully, Team Shazam becomes a full time pairing because this promotion’s in desperate need of tag teams.
Strap Match: Frankie Flow Vs Junior Flow
Ken Reedy and Joey G have some enjoyably goofy banter about how dangerous strap matches are. What if one of these guys uses the strap to hang the other from one of the chandeliers in the Paramus Elks Lodge. Junior Flow trolls the audience and surprisingly takes advantage to start the match. I thought it would be Frankie plowing through him. Frankie does eventually power up and beat the hell out of his son but then his conscience comes back to haunt him as Junior begs off. This is all a ploy and Junior launches a comeback. Strap shots in this are lame as hell, for what it’s worth. Junior whips his dad with the straps. Frankie doesn’t fight back. He yells at his son to get the anger out of his system and do what he’s going to do but Frankie won’t quit. Junior is taken aback. Just as this happens, two masked men run in and the referee calls this match a no-contest. What the hell? I thought strap matches were no DQ. AUGH! Frankie Flow & Junior Flow join forces to fight these two off. The masked men are ECPW Tag Team Champs Shields and Revello. They were behind this dissension the whole time! Frankie Flow and Junior Flow stare each other down and shake hands. Father & Son have reunited!
I knew a reunion was inevitable at some point but man, they rushed through six months worth of storylines in one night. Junior Flow was coming into his own as a great arrogant heel and now that got cut at the knees. This is like if the Bret-Owen feud ended with them hugging it out after the cage match at SummerSlam ’94. Anyway, C+ for the match, F for the finish and post match angle. We’ll call it somewhere in between and go with a D
Joey G rushes into the ring to get a word with these two. Junior Flow says he just wanted his father’s respect. Frankie Flow understands that and thinks if they can beat the hell out of each other, what can they be able to do together against members of the ECPW locker room that aren’t members of their immediate family. They want Shields & Revello right now!
ECPW Tag Team Titles Match: Shields & Revello (c) Vs The Flow Family
Completely forgot about Shields & Revello. Which is pretty strange since they helped start the family feud. This feud could have been a good chance to showcase them as the top heel team and shit stirrers but instead, they’re background players at the beginning and cannon fodder at the end. They get some token heel offense on the “fatigued” Flows before the babyfaces get the superhero comeback and Frankie wins with a chokeslam. The Flow Family are the new ECPW Tag Team Champions. They tease Junior turning on his father again but they shake hands and celebrate as the babyface locker room (Sonny Kiss! Saru The Monkey!) come out to applaud. Blech. This just made 4 or 5 months worth of storylines seem like nothing. C- Only thing I liked about the last ten minutes of this show is some fan yelling out HAPPY FATHER’S DAY, FRANKIE at the end of the tag match.
Anyway, this show was dumb. Don’t feed your dogs chocolate. I’ll see you next week.
