Lot of big matchups in Week 1 with the darling hype of the Lions taking on the Chiefs to kick off the year a week away. Some rivalries in Bengals/Browns, Packers/Bears, and Raiders/Broncos while we have intriguing games between the Dolphins/Chargers, Cowboys/Giants, and Bills/Jets on MNF.

For your teams... Name who you think will be MVP, Breakout Player, and Underwhelmer of the Year.

Packers are what big "Who knows?" yet. The receivers are all puppies, with #1 Christian Watson being the break out star-despite only having a 5 game run where he showed his potential.
Love seems like it he will be fine, as per the consensus.
D played better in the second half of last season, but Mr 0-16 Joe Barry is still calling the shots.

First 2 games are on the road, so this young team will have to show it's mettle quickly.

Excited to see how the rebuilt Steelers do against the Niners. Plus the Lions get an instant litmus test.

I haven’t paying attention to the off-season at all, do the Lions really have that much hype? I hope it’s legit but man you know how many times I’ve heard that they were finally gonna turn it around. We need more rust belt cities to make a comeback in the NFL.

Buffalo, Philly and Cincy are top contenders in the league and Pittsburgh is generally always relevant.

If Detroit is gonna come into the fold that means someone needs to leave, I don’t know if I like that scenario.

Andre Carter II, who confusingly went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft despite often being projected as at least a 2nd Round to 3rd Round pick, did end up making the Minnesota VIkings 53 Man roster in a feel good story.

Where Chicago is at on it's rebuild, it's all or nothing for Fields this year. Either he shows he has the ability to pass the ball effectively, or the Bears are in the market for a rookie QB in 2024. Last year the Bears had nothing on offense to help him. No WRs, no OL. The rest of the offense isnt perfect, but it's had massive upgrades to it from 2022.

I'm worried about this week for The Bengals. Burrow hasn't played at all this summer. Last year when that happened he looked terrible against Pittsburgh.

I'm gonna need to start doing weekly prayers for Burrow's health. If he can stay healthy all year I think Cincy makes the playoffs.

Saints have moved Taysom Hill back to "QB" on the position designations to account for the 3rd QB rule. We have 4 QBs. One of the local beat writers did an explanation on the sense behind it and I just hear the Jeopardy theme in my head.

Haven’t posted in a bit, so sharing thoughts on the Jets.

This entire offseason has been like a surreal dream, and I’ve never been as excited (and nervous, obv) for a season as I am this one. On paper, this is easily the Jets’ best roster since 2010—and should be better. I’ll cautiously pick the Jets to win a tight AFC East, with Buffalo and Miami both in the playoffs as wild cards. It’s not that I think they’re necessarily better than Buffalo and Miami (I went most of the offseason thinking the Jets would finish second or third), but I also don’t think that either is overwhelmingly better than the Jets. Also, after an offseason with added attention and content, I fully admit that I’m drinking the Jets kool-aid and may be biased.

For Harley's questions...

Team MVP:
Excluding Rodgers, it might have to be Garrett Wilson. Breece Hall will be eased back in and presumably settling into a split with Dalvin, so they cancel each other out. The receiver depth behind Garrett is probably average at best, and while it might not be crippling, losing Corey Davis to retirement may be a bigger blow than most think. Essentially, I expect Rodgers to play consistent and well enough to elevate the other receivers, but will likely need Garrett to take the next step in his development and make big plays for the Jets to win games against the top AFC teams. Darkhorse MVP candidate: Mekhi Becton if he stays healthy, stabilizes the right side, and plays at the level he did in 2020. On defense, Quinnen Williams and Sauce are obvious candidates.

Breakout Player:
Has to be Jermaine Johnson. Reporters all offseason and through camp have been raving about him, saying it's been night and day between this year and last. He played limited snaps last year due to the Jets’ depth at the position and coaches’ preference for heavy rotation, but he should be able to carve out a much more prominent role this year. Excited to see if it all translates into the meaningful games.

Underwhelmer:
Don’t feel particularly strong about any one player here. Maybe Dalvin Cook, if only because I didn’t think he was an essential signing in the first place (no complaints, though!). Allen Lazard also comes to mind, but being a reliable target in key spots and providing comfortability to Rodgers shouldn’t be overlooked if his numbers don’t end up jumping off the page.

While there are question marks all across the offensive line, I do think they’ll be better than the doom and gloom that the national media would have you believe. Health has been the biggest concern all offseason, and it seems like they’re finally trending in the right direction as of the last preseason game. Mentioned Becton above as key.

Thanks to Brock Purdy for making peanuts and being a legit starting QB. Trey Lance was a bust, but Brock being legit (so far) is the saving grace and the reason they can pay so much to others.

It’s nice as a Lions fan to finally see games like this, and not write them off as double-digit losses before kickoff. Really hope this team can keep this going.

Mahomes needs Kelce badly cause they have no WR worth a damn at all.

Good to see the Lions win that game though.

Darren Waller hurt again and questionable for the Giants opener. I think he just doesn't want to play football.
