I was a little behind on making this post. You'll hear a lot of 2000 and 2013 when it comes to this draft class, which if I'm being honest intrigues me even more.

I've heard people say Tobias Harris or Derrick Lively would go #1 overall in this class.

Without looking I would say having Giannis and Rudy should eliminate 2013 from any WOAT draft discussions despite Bennett and MCW flaming out so quickly.

Haha funny you mention that. I have something printed off about 2013 and 2000 and left it at work (I’ll post it tomorrow). Giannis and Gobert skew it ahead of 2000 big time!

2013 also has a handful of guys who weren’t blow away but have had solid enough NBA careers. 2006 is are worse than 2013 and the 2002 is just as bad (but none of them are as bad as 2000)

In terms of pre draft hype ATT though, 2013 was definitely the weakest until this current draft class. That is how Anthony Bennett ended up as #1 is cause Victor Oladipo was only thing close to a consensus #1 and Cleveland already had Kyrie.

People were definitely way more jacked up for Andrea Bargnani, LaMarcus Aldridge and Adam Morrison than anyone is for any of the current draft prospects (or 2013 prospects in spring of that year).

‘98-‘02 is a bit of black hole for me for NBA history. Thanks Pitino (and ‘98/‘99 lockout). Were people excited for the ‘00 draft class going into it?

From what I can tell K-Mart was the only one people were pegging as a potential future star, and even he was a big question mark because he had broken his leg in college. Which is ironic because the Nets drafted him largely to replace Jayson Williams, who had just had his career ended by a broken leg.

IIRC it was actually Nerlens Noel who was considered to have the highest upside of the 2013 class. But he also had injury question marks I believe.

Yeah. I think everyone assumed Cleveland was gonna pick Noel. Idk if it was a safe assumption that Anthony Bennett was going to be a lottery pick. He was projected to go around 8 or 9. He is not just the worst #1 but definitely most random.

Yeah the 2000 draft was interesting since KMart was the clear cut #1, but the last thing we saw was a catastrophic leg injury three months before. There was a lot of Darius Miles hype as he was catching some KG comps. Fizer also was getting a lot of buzz because of ISU’s NCAA run.

I've heard the two French players, Risacher and Alex Starr are widely expected to go #1 and #2. Are there any "big" names that may drop in the Draft due to skill set not really translating vs. fans knowing them as a big name (thinking a Zach Edey out of Purdue maybe)?

Darius Miles got a Sports Illustrated or maybe it was ESPN: The Magazine cover but that might have been two or three seasons into his career.

For all of the horrible mistakes made in Cleveland sports over the years, at least the ‘03 Cavs GM had the sense to get Darius and Ricky Davis away from LeBron at the earliest possible chance!

The latest Edey intel is very wide, some have said anywhere between 9-19. I think I would still have a very hard time using a lottery pick on him, , but maybe this is the draft to do this especially if a team believes that his median outcome is his floor if that makes sense.

I think Sarr is a lock for Top 2, because I think Washington takes him for sure if he gets past the #1 pick.

Illinois wing Terrance Shannon, Jr. was found not guilty of rape in Kansas today. Most boards have him anywhere between 25-45 on draft boards. Maybe this news gets him back into the first round.

So I was going to make a 5-10-15-20 year draft synopsis, but 2013 and 2000 are too locked into this draft so I looked at these too. The difference between Win Share’s and VORP is interesting as it leads a bigger lean towards big men.

2013 Win Shares

1. Giannis Antetokounpko (13th) (109.3)
2. Rudy Gobert (27th) (106.0)
3. Steven Adams (12th) (59.3)
4. Mason Plumlee (22nd) (54.1)
5. CJ McCollum (10th) (50.5)

My Top 5 that year was:
1. Victor Oladipo
2. Nerleans Noel
3. Otto Porter Jr.
4. Ben McLemore
5. Shabazz Muhammad

I think that while most people did think that 6 guys were in play for the #1 pick, I don’t really think Porter and Len were really in play.

Alex Sarr has refused to workout with the Hawks and Risacher is now -200 on some betting sites to go #1.

Ugh I left my notebook at work, but I want to put part of my list on here so I don’t get caught being Chad Ford in 2031!

My rankings (as much as I can remember until tomorrow)

1. Alex Sarr
2. Reed Sheppard
3. Ron Holland
4. Stephon Castle
5. Zaccharie Risacher
6. Donovan Clingan
7. Cody Williams
8. Bub Carrington
9. Devin Carter
10. Dalton Knecht
11. Tidjane Salaun
12. Nikola Topic
13. Rob Dillingham
14. Matas Buzelis
15. Jared McCain
16. Kyle Filipowski
17. Zach Edey
18. Ja’Kobe Walter

Forgot the rest. Feel like 1-3 are a tier, 4-6 are a small tier below, and honestly I have no clue with the guys between 7-14, a combo of raw young guys and a couple 22 and 23 year olds. Can’t wait!

First four picks went pretty chalk. Gotta think the Pistons are taking calls now if people are wanted to get Clingan.

Well so much for that! Shooting in Detroit is going to be rough, but I think it’s a great pick as Holland is precisely the guy you should bet on the upside.

Sounds like Dillingham is going to Minnesota. I’d be curious to see what the trade is. That’s a huge jump.

A 2031 unprotected first and a 2030 pick swap. I know they got one of the best players today and just made it to their first conference finals in 20 years but given franchise history, they could easily be back in the sewer in 5-6 years!

Could you imagine a 26 year old Wemby gets a Top 10 pick from Minnesota in 2031?!

I really like the Carter pick for SacTo. I also think Bub going to Washington would be great for their rebuild.

Sounds like the Celtics picked a dude who can be another potential future 3 & D type player, which fits their style of team. At worst, he'd be a guy who will come off the bench and be a catch & 3 shooter.

GREAT pick for the Lakers. Whereas JHS was never going to get on the court to help the Lakers last year, Knecht will be out there and be able to score on and off the ball.

It’s funny people getting mad about this while Giannis shitty brothers have been in the league a long time. And all of them are worse than Bronny James.
