ALIEN: ISOLATION looks like more of an actual horror game, in line with the original ALIEN. I've been fooled by swell looking trailers for these games before, but this one has potential

They're pretty positive across the board, from what I've read. I likely won't play it because I'm not a survival horror fan, but I'm glad that there's at least one Alien game that doesn't suck (besides the awesome AVP beat 'em up cabinet).

Sounds like it completely depends on the individual player's personality. The game is basically "the alien is always near you, you're gonna die a lot, be careful with your saves" from what I've seen. It's less like the standard shoot-em-up that Aliens games usually are, and more like Clock Tower or Resident Evil 3.

I picked it up today, just got home. Will dive into it later. Some folks have said it is sort of like Outlast but with a Xenomorph. I hope it isn't quite THAT basic.

Reviews were all over the place so my expectations are tempered.

On the bright side I put $20 down on The Evil Within that drops Tuesday......"bright side" being hopeful, and all.

Played some more. Once the alien shows up shit is intense. Legit spilled my drink last night. I'm only a few hours in though so I could see the gameplay getting old if they don't switch it up.

That's what I've been reading: the game is intense and exciting but too long.

Yes. Reviewers are actually slating that a game is too long. While I could understand that based on the game seemingly being one large set piece till the end, never would I think complaining about a games length in this generation of 6hr single players being a "thing".

Apparently there was some big screw-up on newegg or something and people got a bunch of copies for PC for like .99, so naturally people were grabbing extras to sell and I bought one of em for about $18. I'm quite enjoying it, I can see how people who were expecting a more actiony game would be disappointed but I love the atmosphere of it, I think it does the franchise justice.

If true, that's what I would want it to be. I love meticulous, methodical, atmospheric survival games. I felt like the only person that actually liked Manhunt.
