"All the Young Dudes" is the best rock song of the 70s

Yeah, the lyrics are total nonsense and Ian Hunter mumbles through the whole thing, but that chorus still sends chills down my spine every time I hear it. Credit David Bowie both for writing the song and for coaxing such an amazing recording out of the otherwise-unremarkable Mott the Hoople.

i was gonna disagree with you and say that that's not even the best Bowie-produced rock song of the 70s, but then I went and listened to it to refresh my memory and, man, that chorus.

I just found All the Young Dudes on vinyl at Salvation Army! It's in pretty awful shape though, and that cover of "Sweet Jane" at the beginning of the record just skips all over the place. Oh well.

Just wanted to say that when I first saw this thread last week my initial reaction was to post, "I think somebody just saw Juno!" Then I thought it over and I realized that Kinetic would have retorted by saying that BUTT likes 90s Aerosmith albums, and I wasn't looking to get sonned like that, OK?

That you would think I discovered this song through Juno! I feel like that 90s song tournament strained our relationship in some irreparable way, man. If I could take it all back, I would.

I got mine for $2 at a Half Price Books. The (future) Bad Company song rocks on vinyl.

I always thought that was one of the better latter-day Aerosmith songs. I'm glad that my comment inexplicably inspired it being posted in this thread.

Of course I didn't think that, I just figured it would be a pretty sick burn, albeit one with some severe repercussions for myself. And Kamala, that song is from '89. I bought my copy of Pump (and Get A Grip!) at the same video store I recently mentioned in 90's Music Videos Thread.
