Can someone explain to me why the NYT cartoon of Netanyahu and the US President is Anti-Semitic?

D5LQ_DKUwAA6LzI.jpg:large

How I saw this was equally feeble hunting animals are leading each other. "OHMIGAWD HE SAID ANIMALS ABOUT ISRAEL" but it's a Dachshund and what appears to be a blind man. The idea, as I saw it, was that a blind US President was being led into policy decisions by someone as reckless and aggressive as a regular domesticated dog. I'm starting to think "ANTI-SEMITIC" is becoming the response to any objections to Israel's state policies no matter how passive or aggressive.

The nation, as an institution, is separate from its people. It's how we roll here, right? So many times in the 2000s you may have heard "I support the troops, but not the mission." A compartmentalization of things takes place. Criticism of the Israeli state doesn't mean I hate Jewish people, it means I don't like dickheads. Dickheads are nonreligion-specific. If you want war and oppression of speech or people, then I want you to fuck off.

This can also be about Rep. Omar's supposed "anti-Semitic" positions and how much the Republican party, one that actively courts FUCKING NAZIS is trying to take the lead on an issue without any real substance.

Israel is blocking two US Democratic lawmakers, who are prominent critics of the Israeli government, from visiting.

Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib were due to visit the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem next week.

Both have supported the boycott movement against Israel, but Israeli law allows supporters of the campaign to be banned from visiting.

President Shitbag earlier tweeted it would show "great weakness" if the pair were allowed entry.

Ms Omar described Israel's move as "an insult to democratic values and a chilling response to a visit by government officials from an allied nation".

Mr Shitbag earlier had taken to Twitter to urge that the two lawmakers be blocked from visiting, adding that "they hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds".

Ms Omar and Ms Tlaib have both been criticised for their stance on Israel - but have denied charges of being anti-Semitic.

Speaking to reporters later on Thursday, Mr Shitbag said, "I can't imagine why Israel would let them in.

"But if they want to let them in, they can, but I can't imagine why they would do it."

Why have they been banned?
Israeli law blocks entrance visas to any foreigner who calls for any type of boycott that targets Israel - either economic, cultural or academic.

The law attempts to suppress the "boycott, divest, sanction" movement, which has drawn growing support across Europe and the US.

Israeli officials had earlier said they would make an exception for the elected US officials, before backtracking.

According to US media, their trip was meant to begin on Sunday, and would include a stop at one of the most sensitive sites in the region - a hilltop plateau in Jerusalem known to Jews as the Temple Mount and Muslims as Haram al-Sharif.

They also planned to visit Israeli and Palestinian peace activists and travel to Jerusalem and the West Bank cities of Bethlehem, Ramallah and Hebron.

The trip to the West Bank was planned by Miftah, an organisation headed by Palestinian peace negotiator Hanan Ashrawi.

Ms Tlaib was planning to stay for two extra days to visit her grandmother, who lives in a Palestinian village.

Who are they?
President Shitbag, who has a close relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has frequently feuded with the lawmakers and in remarks widely condemned as racist, told them to "go back" to the countries that their families were from.

Ms Tlaib - the first member of the US Congress of Palestinian descent - was born in Michigan, and Ms Omar is from Minnesota but was born in Somalia.

After the Democratic-led House of Representatives voted against the boycott against Israel movement in July, Ms Tlaib criticised the country as "racist".

"I can't stand by and watch this attack on our freedom of speech and the right to boycott the racist policies of the government and the state of Israel," she said.

The House also voted to condemn hate speech in a move directed at Ms Omar for her criticism of US support for Israel.

"It's all about the Benjamins baby," Ms Omar had tweeted in a reference to the US $100 note, leading to allegations that she was using a negative stereotype for Jews.

She later apologised, and said the tweet was meant to criticise lobbyists, not Jews. She also thanked "Jewish allies and colleagues who are educating me on the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes".

This fucker said for these people to "go home" and when one DOES go to their "home," he and his global autocratic cabal make sure it doesn't happen.

Think about this: A US President tells a foreign ally "hey, don't let these members of our elected legislature into your country." He straight up said that members of the US Congress were going to go on a trip to an allied country specifically to bring harm to it. This kind of ridiculous bullshit is what this administration's legacy will be.

I want to burn down the White House and build a new, identical one once Shitbag is gone. The whole place is fucking infected and needs to be destroyed for any future residents to feel any sense of peace.

Not a graphic novel guy but I read Maus for a college class and it absolutely ruled. Don't take my word for it. You can check it out at your local library!

Unless you live in Tennessee maybe...

Not singling out Laz here, but even if the Maus controversy is currently happening in the South, what's going on is no different from the CRT panic that's going on throughout the country with no regional specificity. It's not about any one transgression ("nudity" and "swearing" in the case of Maus); it's about schools not having access to books that hurt certain white people's feelings. Many of the same people who got their dander up about the Dr. Seuss estate letting a book go out of print.

Many of the same people who got their dander up about the Dr. Seuss estate letting a book go out of print.
But that one also had the added absurdity of those people
claiming it was cancel culture for the Dr. Seuss estate to decide to no longer print some of their own books while simultaneously buying up as many circulated copies as they could to support the Dr. Seuss estate that canceled themselves people on eBay looking to cash in on people up in arms about the canceling.

Speaking of the Holocaust, I just briefed this article for on one of my classes and it explores how trauma responses can be inherited in a study of Holocaust survivor descendants. I don't get officially serious about much, but this is one of those topics. It's a short, a little old, but engaging read. Not to derail, but if this science holds water, we could also explore stress being passed in the genes of slavery descendants, 9/11 descendants, and any other group that were subjected to long term near death stress.
