Anyone else as pumped for this game as I am?

I'm just waiting for UPS to deliver this today from Amazon so I can get started.

Going to go pick it up today, but I'm going to wait until I finish 2 to start on it. The modern day stuff is confusing enough without taking it out of order.

I've been playing the Facebook game; I know it unlocks extras in the console game.

What does it unlock?

I get some kind of armor since I pre-ordered from Amazon.

I want to get it. Just finished AC2, including the Bonfire DLC mission.

I was going to hold off on buying this because I had so many games to play in the pile...but I was at Best Buy buying a bunch of other stuff and decided to just throw it in. Which was the best thing ever since they forgot to ring it in and I walked out of there with it for free. That's never happened to me before. Today was a good day.

I got thru the first 2 sequences so far. Very fun to play, improved on AC II. Pays to be aggressive in fighting instead of always standing back when you are cornered.

So far, no complaints.

Through 4 sequences now. Finally started to be able to recruit other Assassin's. That is fun, they start off pretty crappy, but you send them out o missions to kill/save/protect and they earn XP which allows you to build them up. You can also use them to help you too, but only if they aren't out on other missions.

Figured I'd put this here. In 2, when you're doing the glyphs, do you get a second shot at it if you screw up? I'm about 15 in and got to one of those "spin the circles around until the picture comes out right" and meant to reset it by exiting. Instead the glyph went dead. Does it reactivate or am I screwed?

I picked this up today but won't get into it until tomorrow. I loved the shot out of AC II, so more of that can't be a bad thing.

Wow I lost track of time.

I started playing around 11:30 pm, and figured I would just play for an hour or so, it's now 5 am and I just turned the game off. I am through sequence 7 I think it is now. I have Rome pretty much rebuilt, and I have a group of Assassin's that are all leveled up except for two.

Loving this game so far.

Well I just finished the main story line of the game. 9 sequences in all. Ending was a usual mindtrip like the last two games. Still have some side quests to do, but main quest is completed and finished.

I just unlocked the Assassin's Guild. This game is now 5,000 stars. I walked by a group of guards and one of them decided to be a dick and shove me. He and his friends were dead within 10 seconds and I didn't even have to get my blade messy.

This is seriously rocketing up my GOTY list.

Working my way through sequence 3 right now. Got caught up with the virtual missions, trying to get my gold medals. Free runs were actually pretty easy, but the chain kills are annoying. I get up to about 15 or 16, then someone comes in while I'm counterkilling someone and hits me, killing my chain.

As for the story, so far so good. Burned down a couple of Borgia towers, freed some hookers, all in a day's work. Can't wait to start recruiting.

Renovating those escape tunnels sure makes getting around a lot easier. This city is HUGE.

Having your posse do all the killing for you makes the game kinda easy at points, but it's good for the times the condition for getting 100% sync is not being detected.

I just started Sequence 5 and I think I'm about 8-10 hours in. I'm too busy buying up Rome and leveling up my guild. I've started to notice the guards cautiously poking their swords into every pile of hay they come across which is a cool little detail.

Okay, finished the game.

Pros:
- Combat is finally perfected. The biggest problem I've ever had with an AC game is the fact that combat becomes insanely tedious and slow because of the reliance on counters. The new execution streak feature (is that what it's called) allows you to actually have quick and dynamic fights rather than relying on the same old "Stop, get surrounded, take them out one by one like a bad ninja movie". It's very powerful (The first fight with the Sons of Romulus come to mind in how you can really demolish groups), but I love it.
- The side quests feel better fleshed out than the previous games. There is enough variation and character to them to really like them. I actually enjoyed the Borgia Captains thing (the tower, less so) because there were some fun challenges in them. In particular, the captain in the catacombs required some stealth and a few timely uses of your assassins. Other things like the Templar Agents and such were cool and needed.
- Controls are still very good. Every now and then they feel the need to run Ezio off a ledge or jump a way I don't want, but overall the controls are still solid.
- The Assassin's Guild makes the game what it is. At least, the single player. It's immensely fun and satisfying to watch your assassins progress, and using your assassins is a fun game in and of itself; after I had a few groups of assassins, any group of guards I saw was instant entertainment. The contract missions have neat historical tie-ins, which are another plus. I never had an assassin die on me, but apparently you can have a little moment of mourning for them, too. Loved it.

Cons:
- This is a relative thing, but the story is not as good as the last one. Hunting down the conspirators in the last game was a lot more compelling than taking down Cesare Borgia in this one. Plus, I think Rodrigo Borgia was a more interesting villain.
- Along with this, the ending missions are really, really weak. They felt rushed, out of place, poorly set-up, and the mechanic they revolve around is just... bad. Compared to the last game, where you were sneaking into Rome and then fought the Pope with opposing magical alien doodads, the ending is really lame. Where the side missions were better, the story missions were perhaps not as good. The finish with Desmond was not as good in my opinion, either.
- I was disappointed with the Subject 16 "revelation" in this one. Hoping for more along the lines of the last game, revealing part of the secret history of the world. Not so. It's not bad, it just wasn't what I wanted.
- Screw item quests. That's all that needs to be said about those.

Despite having a few problems with it, this is a great game. The criticisms are like comparing Indiana Jones movies; they are great, but compared to one another you have to emphasize the flaws to make the differences stand out. 9/10

Well, while the family's been sitting in the other room watching the dog show I played for a few hours. Man, once I could start recruiting I went on a Tower burning spree. I've basically liberated as much of Rome as I can at this point (end of sequence 4), got 8 assassins at at least level 5, and I'm just doing the side quests in my quest for 100% I think the hardest part is the time limits for the Lairs. That's some tricky stuff, and one bad jump can cause a restart on a time run. Combat is much improved with the execution streak, and some of those counters are brutal. I particularly like the one where you stab the guy in the stomach, then when he doubles over you shoot him in the back of the head.

Once the football game is over, I go back to saving the world from Leonardo's WMDs.

I've been putting some good time into this and I love it. I try to get a few things done (one of the wolf temples, a Leonardo machine, restoring some shit and whatnot) while doing each memory so that I don't have to get bogged down doing the same thing over and over again. There's a lot to do and the map makes it look pretty overwhelming. I haven't done anything for the Thieves or whores yet. I don't even really know what I'm supposed to do with that.

I don't know why I haven't played AC2 or Brotherhood yet. I played the first one on PC and enjoyed it, but I have never been compelled to pick up any of the sequels, even though I could have picked up AC2 for $20 or so multiple times. Then again, it seems like I never have much time to play games anymore, so I try not to pick up any games that require a huge investment to finish. 5-8 hour campaign games seem to be my sweet spot lately.

The first game is utter crap compared to the sequels. I always tell people to at least try the second game even if they didn't like the first.

I just started sequence 8. Once I'm done with the story I think I'll dive into multiplayer.

Agreed. I liked 1 a lot but the series took a major leap forward with 2 and Brotherhood is even better so far.

So I finished it. I don't know if I like the ending or not. I certainly didn't expect what happened to happen.

Agreed. I don't know how many games they were going to make, but if it's 3 (w/Brotherhood being an offshoot, not a true sequal) then I don't know how they're going to wrap it up. They're so far up their own ass right now mythology wise I have no idea how they're planning on finishing it off. That and I don't like who they're making Templars vs. Assassins. I realize they're playing up the "assassins = underdogs", but seemingly anyone who's either conservative or a successful businessman is actually part of this huge globespanning cabal. Feel free to dial it back a little bit, Ubisoft.

In the last scene I was like "Oh, I know what's going to happen......but WHY?"

I'm sure the babble you hear during the platform section meant something, but you can't give me important plot while I'm figuring out which way to jump.

From what I get, Juno (not Minerva, who was the hologram in 2) is talking about a disaster that wiped their race out despite their best efforts (including cross breeding with humans) and is bitching out humans for rebelling against them and the benign slavery humans were in. That's kinda what I got out of it.

I am pretty sure I'm going to get this, but haven't played either of the other two. It just seems like something that I could fuck around with for awhile and would probably enjoy. Seeing the raving reviews around here is usually a clear sign that something should at least be checked out.

You can probably get the second one pretty cheap by now. You should play that one before jumping in to this one since this is a continuation of that story. The first one you can skip. Not that it isn't good, just that it isn't really needed as it's a different character in a different era. It is all one overriding story though.

Here's a random thought. I read there might be a movie sometime down the line (which makes sense since I think this series lends itself better than most). So...does Kristen Bell have to audition for this roll?

I picked it up last night and played through the first sequence and did all the platforming into the sanctuary as Desmond. It was touch-and-go getting used to the free-running aspects and trying to remember to keep the camera moving when I needed to. I'm too old school, and sometimes it's tough to multi-task so many damn buttons at once.

Finished the Da Vinci Disappearance DLC. From the ending, it looks like the next game is going to take place in majestic, scenic....

....upstate New York?
