Assassin's Creed 4 ( IV ) Black Flag - Debut Trailer 2013 - HD Premiere

http://youtu.be/l6rwCyP1LLg

Ubisoft has confirmed that the next entry in the Assassin’s Creed series will be called Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

Today’s announcement confirms the title initially revealed by leaked marketing material this week and also expands upon Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot’s comments earlier this month that the newest Assassin’s Creed game features a new hero and time period.

While no concrete details are given in the art, it’s immediately clear that the game will involve pirates, just as rumors suggested a few weeks ago.

Want to know more about Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag? IGN will be live streaming the game's official announcement -- including the first details -- on Monday, March 4th at 9:00 a.m. Pacific. Our pre-show starts at 8:30, so tune in early and find out all the news as it's revealed.

Update: Amazon has revealed box art that confirms Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U versions of the game, including "60 minutes of exclusive gameplay" on PS3. We've reached out to Ubisoft for confirmation of additional platforms and will update this story with any additional info we receive.

Well...that sucks.

Ship Combat was the worst part of ACIII for me personally. Just couldn't get into, and really only did the mandatory story ones. So to see that's probably going to be the focus of the next game kind of disappoints me.

I thought the ship combat was the best part personally. I lost all interest in the game once I finished them all.

Of course, apparently PETA is on Ubisoft because this game will have whaling aspects, or something. Ubisoft's response is great:

Ubisoft's senior PR manager, Stone Chin, addressed the game's historical context directly in an email to Polygon.

"History is our playground in Assassin's Creed," Chin said. "Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is a work of fiction that depicts the real events during the golden era of pirates. We do not condone illegal whaling, just as we don't condone a pirate lifestyle of poor hygiene, plundering, hijacking ships, and over-the legal-limit drunken debauchery."

Between his amazing name and his flair for PR, Stone Chin is my new favorite ubisoft employee. Sorry, Jade. Tits or GTFO.

So has anyone else picked this up? It is SO much more interesting than III it isn't funny. The ship combat is tremendous fun.

Yea, it's my current addiction. It is quite amazing.

What's funny it's that I rented it from Redbox a few weeks ago...and just was not enjoying it at all. I don't know if there was a slow start or what, but I didn't think I was going to enjoy it. But once you get out on the open world with your ship, and can explore every little inch of the this huge oceanwide landscape, it's crazy.

I've had a lot of fun with the ship combat (especially for not liking it in 3.) That includes trying to upgrade it. Searching the seas for that one ship that has just enough cloth/wood/metal has turned out to actually be fun. I like how seamless the hunting it, as well as the whaleboat mini game. Also amazed that somehow managed to include the underwater dives. There's a lot going on.

And just as an aside, my favorite part of the AC games has always been the Desmond storyline. So I was incredibly sour with how 3 ended. But so far, I like how the present day story is going. And I'm only about 35% in. (By the main menu, I don't know if that percentage includes collectibles and stuff, or just story.)

edit- Also, Edward's not a whiny bitch. And I even liked Connor...but boy was he a whiny bitch.

How important is it to have played all of them? I've only played the first one. Wasn't interested it much past that. Black Flag looks fantastic and interesting, have I missed too much of the story since Part 1?

^^^ Was about to ask the same thing. Is Black Flag the one where they start a new protagonists story?

Hmm...it's hard to say. I'd say it's pretty important. (At least II and III)

But, I don't think you'll be shooting yourself if you just go ahead and pick this one up. The story's nothing you can't figure out from a quick Assassin's Creed Wikia read or something like that. The core game stories (Where you play as the Assassin) are pretty stand alone for the most part.

The only problem I really foresee, are that there are a lot of game mechanics, even just so far as movement and combat that might be hard to pick up. Or it isn't really fully explained anyway, since they kind of expect most players to know it at this point. So you might find yourself doing a lot of trial and error. Luckily, the difficulty this year is kind of lenient in a lot of cases (the checkpoint system is far greater than it used to be) so it prob wouldn't be too hard for any competent gamer to get into.

The biggest thing that they improved over III is that the side stuff actually has a purpose: you pillage ships for goods to sell and upgrade your ship, you destroy forts to reveal chunks of the map and locations of collectables, etc.

Plus, it's just goddamn fun to sail around listening to sea shantys.
