Perry was being talked to by a veteran with respected credentials, not some never-was ham & egger. There's a considerable difference between a main event superstar giving you advice and a career jobber telling you the same thing.
As for Bully and his era, if he's offering advice on how to not get hurt? I say take it. The man came from THE company known for dangerous stunts and career-shortening bullshit, so maybe when he says something like "don't go through glass" it's because he's seen what it does to workers and is trying to prevent that from happening. He's also a known dickhead, of course, but there's some truth to the "my dad was right" sentiment.
