I had a long post ready to go shortly after this thread was made, but then I accidentally closed the browser tab and didn't feel like typing it all again. I voted for "Crazy." The arbitrary 90s time period leaves out ham jams "Angel" and "What It Takes," and for completion's sake should have included "Deuces Are Wild" and "Blind Man" even though nobody would or should have voted for those two.

I've been listening to classic A-Smith in the last week and I have decided that "Seasons of Wither" may be their best song.

Today is the 25th Anniversary of Get A Grip. Also the day the Backstreet Boys formed.

4-20-1993 is THE GREATEST DAY IN THE HISTORY OF POPULAR MUSIC!

Wonder how BUTT is celebrating.

My brother had Get a Grip on cassette as well. Later I had it on CD. I wish I could have appreciated it in its own time but I had just turned 8 and wasn't paying any attention to music outside of my copy of Classic Queen. The compilation Big Ones (which contains all the singles from GaG) was the first album I ever owned on CD, and I also had the VHS companion Big Ones You Can Look At.

How the fuck was this completely left off the poll. Utterly shameful

I don't consider "Livin' on the Edge" a ballad. It's more of a mid-tempo rocker. Classic piece of art nonetheless, as are all the videos from Get a Grip (except "Eat the Rich" which is a relatively tame recording studio video with some wacky imagery strewn about).

Now that the purview of this thread has been expanded I might as well post this classic Michael Bay joint:

Hm. Do you apply this same label to the song's obvious(ly inferior) inspiration "November Rain," as well?

Big Ones was absolutely one of the first CDs I ever owned. When my dad moved out he took it with him even though it was clearly mine. I went out to a flea market a few weeks ago, on Easter, and bought 3 CDs and one of them was Big Ones. I listen to it in my car. It has all the Get A Grip stuff and the Pump singles. Janie's Got A Gun is just a damn fine song.

No, but ballad status isn't just a matter of tempo. For instance "Seasons of Wither" which I linked to above is faster than "Livin' on the Edge" but I consider it a ballad. I can't quite define it, but to paraphrase whichever Supreme Court justice said that shit about obscenity I know it when I hear it, and "Livin' on the Edge" just isn't it.

FAKE EDIT: "Livin' on the Edge" does appear on the 2011 compilation Tough Love: Best of the Ballads but it also includes "Love in an Elevator" and "Rag Doll" so idk

My local radio stations have insured that I am content never hearing Rag Doll for the rest of my life.

I want to draw attention to the fact that Bob Tones returned to the board after a nearly two-year absence just to post in this thread and then immediately logged off.

I've stayed awake at night all week, wondering what BUTT's thoughts are on Aerosmith railroading Joey Kramer.

Thank God that he has Joey Kramer's Rockin' and Roastin' Organic Coffee to fall back on, at least
