Great marketing for Paranormal. It opened pretty wide last week, at least wide enough to get #3, and now a shoot to number 1.

Saw 2-5 all opened between $31-$33 million. 6 opening at $14 has to a serious message to the makers that we're just about ready for this story to wrap, which sucks cause this one's been getting pretty solid reviews...but yeah, it needs to end.

I think SAW was screwed this year because of Paranormal. There also didn't seem to be the marketing push for this one, and yea, I think the series is nearing the expiration date

Looks like The Vampire's Assistant is going to tank, which is good to see. I know we're all likely going to have to suffer through the Twilight series until its completion but hopefully this'll be taken as a sign that they can't just slap the word "vampire" on whatever piece of crap that comes out and expect it to sell.

Plus, the movie was awful.

I think the studio knew it had a tank job, and released it a month before Twilight just to see if they could make any money

"Astro Boy" didn't crack the top 5. Somewhere wildpegasus weeps.

Damn "Amelia" didn't even crack the top 10.

The PSA was almost $5,000, putting it third in the top 12, so it's not so bad.

The movie had no chance after it was savaged by critics.

Vampire's assistant was published in 2002, Twilight in 2005.

I think my wife wants to see Vampire's Assistant. Thank god for downloading movies.

The movie was filmed and completed before Twilight came out and had just been getting pushed back for a while. It was going to be released in early 2010 but was moved up to try to get some pre-Twilight business

I'm sure Saw 5 probably disillusioned a lot of people from the series, which is really a shame becuase 6 is probably the best entry in the series. Just a really fun movie all around and it tied-up A LOT of loose ends.

For those who actually bothered to see "Saw VI", I have a question: does it leave things open for another sequel?

I have yet to see it, but I think Saw 7 has already been greenlit so I'm guessing yes. Saw 8 might also already have been greenlit if I recall correctly, so we at least have a few more years until these are completely done.

Eventually the Saw films would see a drop, so this is a long time coming. However, like someone else said, I think this is more on the success of Paranormal Activity versus a lack of interest in another Saw film. For what its worth, I would always make a point to go see the new Saw the first weekend it came out, and this weekend, I don't think I will make it as I'd rather see Paranormal Activity (which I checked out last night) but I will still go check out Saw within the week here. I guess time will tell if the final numbers for part 6 end up around the same level as the previous (I believe on average, the Saw films have gotten about 50 million or so each) but I'm betting it will by the time this one runs its' course, given it seems to have a pretty good word of mouth in terms of these films, and Halloween is still not until next weekend so people will generally be in the mood for this kind of film for a little while longer. Who knows though.

Yes and no all at the same time. If they leave it alone, then yes there was at least something resembling closure. I can only think of one thing they didn't resolve.

I just was trying to find info on whats up with the Saw franchise from here, and they are already planning to start filming Saw VII this January, and it will be in 3-D. They already have plans to do Saw VIII as well, as a sort of complete conclusion to the series as it stands right now. I would imagine given the dip in the box office for this one, that they will be sticking to this plan.

I think the Saw movies are cheap to make so it wouldn't surprise me if this series keeps going and going and ultimately ending up as direct to DVD fodder.

Didn't realize they were doing more SAW movies. I thought I had heard this would be the final one and that was part of the reason they were releasing the video game this year. I really like the first, but after the second was a letdown so I haven't seen any of the rest yet.

I enjoyed Saw 1 and 4. Number 2 was almost ok, but they tried to do too much. And 3 and 5 were total crap.

Didn't want to spoil much, but there's really no way around it:

That's the one thing they haven't resolved. There was a brief mention of Dr. Gordon in a flashback here and that's it. One thing though. The man being "played" throughout Saw 6 has a key to save one of the victims within his right side. The P.I. from the beginning of Saw 2 had a key implanted behind one of his eyes. WHO is doing all these surgeries? John was brilliant but certainly was no surgeon, Jill was just a nurse, Amanda isn't feasible, and Hoffman was sloppy (as evidenced in the new film). In the video that played at the beginning of Saw 2 showing the key being implanted, you'll notice the surgeon had a severe limp. Now, John had Cancer, and while he struggled to get around, never had much of a limp. It also fit none of the other characters, leading myself and others to speculate that Dr. Gordon is involved in all this in some fashion. Plus, if Hoffman didn't die from having half his jaw ripped open by Jill at the end of Saw 6, someone (maybe this unmentioned surgeon?) will have to fix him by the time Saw 7 happens.

Good theory. If that's the case then I wonder...

If Cary and the producers of Saw will both be man enough to forget the lawsuit, and work together to put the loose ends on this whole story.

Supposedly the issue was between him and the one who died, not the current series or those involved. Cary has always maintained he must have died but it seems like he has never been against coming back if it made sense. Right now, that is the only mystery SAW has. The assumption he is dead without any confirmation from anyone involved. Beyond that, they have NOTHING left.

Although...if he was alive, he's dead now. Hoffman claimed he wanted to be the last man standing so if Gordon was alive then he's either dead or moved on
