Wilco-I Might (NEW SONG)

Wilco has released the first single for their new album The Whole Love, which is due in September. It's called "I Might" and sounds like it will be the Summerteeth-style song.I listened to it and will probably listen to it again. I don't know how to analyze and discuss music so good. I really like the bassline.

That album/single cover looks like OK Computer era Radiohead.

I like this song, so I'm cautiously optimistic. I don't think it sounds particularly Summerteethy—other than Tweedy's voice, I wouldn't peg this for sounding anything like Wilco; the fuzz bass and general raw, dirty sound of the song is new territory for them. Which is good, because they've been spinning their wheels on the last couple of albums.

It has a real 60s vibe. Maybe it's the organ.

I love the organ, but it could stand to be brought up in the mix a little. Maybe it's just a bad mp3.

Overall, it sounds a little like the Loose Fur side project with the rawness and distortion Inc mentioned.

I hate the distorted bass on first listen, but otherwise I like it pretty much. The bass is just too much though.

Reserving judgement on "Whole Love" as this is a really low-quality MP3. Sounds decent, though.

The Nick Lowe cover that serves as the B-side to "I Might" and can also be found on that YouTube channel is pretty good. Sounds like A.M.-era stuff.

EDIT: Scratch the MP3 up above as I just got to the end and you could hear an audience applauding. Just a low-quality live recording.

There are a couple of other new songs recorded from shows if you search hypem (Dawned on Me and Born Alone). Also, either the version of I Might there is cleaner or I just needed a couple of listens cause I really like it now.

So The Whole Love is really good, huh? This is the first Wilco album I've liked unreservedly since Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

I've mentioned my iPod finally breaking down. Since I haven't felt like replacing it, I bought the actual album a few weeks ago and never had a chance to post about it, mainly because a dog has prevented me from listening to a few of the last songs by eating the CD. But yeah, I really liked what I heard so far. Moderately amusing anecdote: Two people who listen to Phish told me they liked every song on this album except "Art of Almost" because it's "obnoxious"
