I tend to share Bomani Jones' opinion that being a "blue blood" in college sports is a little like being "old money": it's not really a club you can "join," nor is it a club that you can get "kicked out" of. Or maybe more like being nobility, in countries where they still do that: like, you can be an uber-rich tech bro, and still be thought of as less important than some broke-ass Earl, whose family lost all their money, but still holds the title that was bestowed upon his ancestor by the king, like, 900 years ago.

I think that the better question is, at what point in college basketball history was the doorway to entry into blue blood status "officially" sealed off? Like, if you consider Duke to be a "blue blood," I feel like they would have to be the last school to get in the "club," before the door was closed behind them.

Slim, I considered that but thought it would be a good look on those chipping away or even breaking through the glass ceiling of the "blue bloods."

Indiana has effectively been kicked out of blue blood category. I think a team can definitely get kicked out of it, but it takes a good 25-30 years to get in that club.

Indiana is definitely out. UCLA may be too inconsistent to still be in. I think everyone else is safe for the time being.
