John Mellancamp is coming to the arena in Abbotsford in June!

Yelawolf is actually going to be in Vancouver on April 13th. If I had known about that sooner I might have considered looking into that.

Van Halen is touring with Kool & the Gang in May. That still seems like an odd combo to me.

In June there's Nickelback, Bush, Seether, My Darkest Days all at one concert. Man that's just brutal.

July I could see Iron Maiden, Coheed & Cambria, and Alice Cooper together at the PNE. 2/3 isn't bad at all.
---

Any good/awful concerts coming to your areas?

Considering going to RHCP in August.

Pretty much everything is around here all the time but I've only been to one or two concerts. War at the LA County Fair was fun.

Staind, Godsmack and Halestorm play here Friday. Seether and Chevelle play here in May.

I'll be seeing Epica and Serenity at Progpower USA in Atlanta in September.

I've seen RHCP in concert and they were pretty good though the opening band who's name I don't remember were the WORST. Just an awful jam band type deal. It was great smoking weed and watching people trying to hop the rails to get from the stands into the lower bowl where the stage was in the arena as the security tried to stop them. So many people couldn't hop them and landed flat on their faces.

I'm going to the Lilith Fair Revival

It's in the woods behind some lady's backyard, so, it's not really a big deal

I'm going to try and check out Mayer Hawthorne when he plays at a club here on the 20th. That's the only concert I'm fairly certain I'm going to see.

I'd like to see The Beach Boys 50th Anniversary tour in Bangor (or Boston) in June but I'm broke and they're asking a lot for tickets and I'm not sure if the seventysomething surviving Beach Boys will be worth it or if they're going just ruin all of my memories. Same deal with the KISS/Motley Crue tour stop in September. Part of me would love to see it but it's $60 for crappy lawn seats. And I saw KISS last summer and it's going to be a slightly shorter version of the same show. Plus the recent clips of the Crue I've seen sound terrible. Plus, Night of the Champions is in Boston the same night. It's a shorter drive, I won't be trapped in the parking lot before the show, and it'll probably be at least $20 cheaper for tickets.

We have the Firefly Music Fest coming here with the oddest mix of bands. I'm not sure if the list of talent is good or bad really but it is good that this state is getting a major concert event.

Nice someone is finally going to use one of our big fucking fields for something.

New England Metal and Hardcore Festival on 4/20 has an amazing collection of awesome bands. FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE!! HOUR OF PENANCE!!

Gwar and Ghoul hit up Wally's Pub in Hampton, NH. Gwar? Twice in a month and a half? YES!

Slayer's doing the Mayhem Festival again this year, and they're coming to the area in August. I'll probably go if I have the cash.

My sister saw RHCP in Orlando last week and said they were really good.

Jacksonville never gets "big" bands but occasionally we'll get a decent "indie" band before they fall into the "big" category.

One of the local radio stations is having a concert that is laughable: Korn, Evanescence (can't BELIEVE they're still a thing), P.O.D (DITTO), and other bands from that genre that was really popular in 2001. There's also a "funk fest" that looks like it might be a fun place to go to inhale marijuana smoke and admire the latest in weave fashions for older women. It has Erykah Badu, New Edition, Doug E Fresh (who makes his way through town about twice a year lately) and a few other recogonisable names.

I'd also go to the Beach Boys but I don't know anyone that would go and I think I'd look weird...first of all the only person in my 20s and then alone on top of it. Sad.

I'm surprised Gwar is playing somewhere in Hampton that isn't the Casino Ballroom. Then again, it'd be weird to see them in a 3,000 seat ballroom usually dedicated to off-prime bands of the '70s, '80s, and '90s too. I guess I'm just weirded out that there's a second prominent concert venue in Hampton Beach now.

Was it Mars Volta?

Opeth/Mastodon and Ghost play next week at the University of Alberta and Iron Maiden is in July. Roger Waters is playing next month too in Edmonton, but I do not care for The Wall at all.

I looked it up and the awful jam band who opened for RHCP was called Mike Watts and the Secondmen. Never heard of them outside of that.

They just announced that Fishbone is coming to a club downtown. I don't care if they're old, crazy, and only have two original members. That should be kind of fun, right? It's only $15. I could probably swing it.

I last saw them in 2001. I think they were down to three, maybe four original members at that point. It was OK. I had stopped following them some years earlier; I only went that night for the hell of it.

What I remember most about the show was Blowfly (backed by Fishbone) served as the opening act. At one point, Mr. Fly started making crude comments directly at a girl near me who couldn't have been more than 13. Nervous laughter from the crowd quickly gave way to uneasy silence. Blowfly finally realized that he was making these horrible, sexual remarks to someone so young, fumbled an awkward apology to her and her father (who was standing right behind her the whole time!), and launched into the next song.

Unfortunately, Blowfly won't be appearing with them. It's a bad, popular local band that's a Sublime ripoff. Definitely a case of good guys, bad band as everybody I've met in the band is super nice. The bassist bought me and my friends jello shots at some super trashy, dive bar a couple months back. Good times.

The owner of the club where the Fishbone show (and the Mayer Hawthorne show I talked about earlier) is happening, I feel a bit queasy about going to. First, their fortysomething cokehead owner is notorious for screwing over local bands RE: pay and putting flyers for the national touring acts at his club over local bands' flyers and then he's surreptitiously unapolegtic about fucking them over. And him and his friends create fake Facebook accounts to attack the people who call him out.

But then again, it seems like most local rock promoters do shit like this so maybe I should get off my high horse and end my half assed boycott of them. I go to support the artists not the shitty club.

My fiance's favorite band is 3 Doors Down. I took her to see them a couple years ago and we had a good time. They're coming to town again this year... but with Gretchen Wilson and ZZ Top. I think 3DD is alright, but I don't think I could sit through the other two.

Mike Watt is pretty well respected in the music community and was the bassist for the Minutemen and fIREHOSE, which is why it kind of surprises me that you say the Secondmen were awful. Personally, I haven't heard them so you could very well be right about them.

Wait what? Who in the world put those three together? Top and Doors, maybe I can understand, but Wilson? What?

Going to see Refused next Sunday. Pretty excited. I didn't see their live Coachella stream on Youtube on Friday but I heard it was great.

Tried getting tickets for a couple of the Kraftwerk shows at the Museum of Modern Art but those sold out so quickly. So bummed.

Mike Watt gets a free pass to do as much jam band noodling as he wants for the rest of his career. It's a shame he has to do it in front of numbskull Chili Peppers fans, but such are the economic realities for an aging punk legend, I guess.

Garth Brooks is playing at the 100th anniversary of the Calgary Stampede this year. Tickets went on sale and were sold out in 55 seconds. Scalper tickets are going for as much as $10K.

Why will you have to fill them in?
