Anyone else pick up Dead Space 2?

Got my copy today. Looks pretty intense based on what I saw in the demo. It comes with the Wii Dead Space Extraction game on the disc as well, formatted for PS Move, of course.

Only thing I'm noticing is.. no Dragon Age 2 armor code. Hrmm..

I am waiting by my door for UPS to drop it off, since my local Gamestop wasn't getting enough of the Limited for me to order one. Should be here any minute now. Demo was pretty nice, I ran through it a few times. Isaac seems to move a little better this time, and the different settings should be nice, although to be honest I don't think the first one was as cut and paste as a lot of the reviews for 2 thought. Metacritic has an average score of 91 with 16 reviews, with the biggest complaint being multiplayer. Since I hardly ever multiplayer I don't care about that.

Yeah I heard multi-player fell flat.. but then I'm not buying this for that, either. I mean it's great they include it, but I'd never be expecting a COD-level experience or anything like that (which is what a lot of reviewers seem to think they should be getting these days).

I will probably pick it up in a few months when the price drops. Picked up the first one for $20 a so, and it was my first platinum trophy. I honestly couldn't care less about the multiplayer. Seems like every game tends to throw in some multiplayer lately, and most of them are throw away add ons.

Hey dub, from what I've heard the PS3 version doesn't have a code. You put in the game and log in to your EA account and it's show up under your user entitlements. That's what I read, so YMMV.

Just started chapter 4 and so far so good. They've really made it so every shot counts. The opening is pretty cool too. Very cinematic, with just a hint of body horror thrown in for good measure.

In honor of this game coming out, I'm going to go dig the first game out of my backlog.

That's what I was thinking of doing. I was at best buy today and thought about picking up this game and then, as I held it, realized that I was on like level 5 of the first one.

Beat it on Normal early this morning. More like late last night. Not bad, although the last fight is a bit unexpected. Funny little callback to the end of 1 in the last cinematic too. Cheating a little bit and going to sprint through normal with the "Elite" suits to farm ammo and energy nodes, then it's off to the harder difficulties. I'm pretty sure I'll need all the supplies I can get for Zealot. I doubt I'll get through Hardcore mode, but I'll probably give it a shot to see how far I can get before I throw my controller. That whole "3 saves" thing is going to be brutal.

BTW, stay through the credits for the sequel hook.

Well, I've built my Clark up all the way through "Survivalist" difficulty, so I guess I'm going to start on my "Zealot" difficulty run through this weekend. Best part about the game is, I don't get bored with the setpieces even whe I know they're coming. It's still fresh and fun. Still don't know about Hardcore mode, that may be a bit beyond me. We'll see.

I finished this game the week it came out, which I think is a good sign of how good it was. I was playing it non-stop. Really fun. I still have to boot it up again and play through harder difficulties. Probably after I finish Mass Effect 2.

Finally tried multi-player. Kinda bleh..

Beat this today. Running away from the regenerating necromorph was super tense. Especially, when a shit load of other necromorphs joined in on the chase. Although you can supposedly kill it in a certain room, so I'll try that next time.

This was less scary than the first one, but probably because that was so new at the time and I didn't have any expectations. Really good game overall.

Has anyone finished it in Hardcore mode? Sounds almost impossible.

And what's the best weapon to fully upgrade? I only fully upgraded the standard weapon, but I started upgrading the line gun too.

I picked up the collectors edition on sale at Best Buy for $40 a couple of months back, and finally started playing it late last week. I finished it this evening. The end was pretty damn tense, but I was a little let down by the final "boss". I guess I was spoiled by the massive Hivemind in the first game.

Re: Dead Space 2

I'm bouncing this in honor of 3's info getting released. Not a huge fan of the co-op approach, since part of the tension was the fact that Isaac was all alone against the horde, but oh well. I do like they've got different cutscenes for single and co-op playthroughs.

In a personal favorite, they're actually remembering that Isaac's a fucking engineer and letting him build his own weapons! Doublestacking a plasma cutter and a pulse rifle might be nice, unless they've got a more shotgun type weapon.

Game is good so far. I'll admit that I'm so used to first person lately that I find third person a little jarring at first. As if my character is in the way of whatever is on my left. ;)

The one thing I am not psyched about is the micro-transactions. You don't have to use them at all.. you can find all of the scrap materials (for building weapons, upgrades) yourself.. but you can also buy them or you can buy enhancements to "Scavenger Bots" who will harvest them for you. I just feel like micro-transactions for a game that doesn't have an ongoing multiplayer experience (there is co-op in this but it's just a campaign) are a bit much and kinda pointless as when I'm done with a game like this, I'm done.

Man.. I think I just don't care about this series anymore. I still feel like the game is good.. but it's just.. "good". There's nothing really pulling me back into it to even bother to attempt a finish. I know I should, since I paid full price for it.. but damn.. I think I'm out after this one.
