Watson got off easy but Goodell being allowed to choose who gets to hear the appeal is shady as fuck.

True, but he could just do it himself, so he's probably just going to look a tiny bit less shady.

I'd say make a year. He got PTO last year, and got his money on this mega deal. If I'm the league I'd rather kick the can down the road and start the story at the start of next year and not let a potential hero return narrative mid-season happen.
