So I've been using the digital optical output on my PS3 and audio receiver for the past two years. Suddenly it stopped working the other night and when I have the optical setting selected, I get no sound. The PS3 seems to let me use that setting so it might not be the PS3's port that is bad although I am not sure if the PS3 actually tests its own hardware when you mess with the settings or if it just lets you say you have Optical even if you didn't(I know when selecting HDMI it auto-finds what the HDMI is connected to which means it has to be working for it to find a connection)

What is the most likely scenario.

A)The optical port on the PS3 is fried(Had a PS3 since Fall 2007)
B)The optical port on my Receiver ia fried(Had receiver since 2006)
C)It's most likely just the cord, go get a new one.(Been using this cord since I got PS3)

I really hope it's just the cord dammit.

Do stores like Frys or Best Buy let you bring a cord in question into the store and allow you to test it somehow? It's not that I can't afford another cord, but if it isn't the cord itself, I would like to not waste the time of having to bring it back and stuff.
