Evil Dead Rise

Looks really good. I really liked the 2013 reboot, so I'm glad it's keeping that aesthetic.

Meh. Looks just like the remake in that it'll miss what made the originals work so well and focus on simple edgelord "look how BR00000TAL the kills are" kinda stuff.

Looks like it’s going a little too heavy on EXTREME!!!! Hope there’s a good movie in there. Promise for sure.

Intense as fuck, but I wonder how this connects to the other Evil Dead remake (or doesnt it at all?)

The green band trailer is completely different and actually creepier than the red band trailer. Alyssa Sutherland seems to be putting in a hell of a performance.

So some speculation on connecting to the other films.....

Other than the obvious that the setting is completely unique and different in this and there is no cabin in the woods, there IS a triangular looking home within a forest from the trailer. Rumors are also that the necronomicon in this film is a uniquely different one than any of the other films (producers have confirmed) so I wonder if this triangular home opens up a bit of a multi necro-type universe that connects everything? Just speculating bigtime here. But it almost has to be the connect point we get near the end of this film after all the crazy shit happens in the apartment setting.

I think we're on the same page here.

I don't have much love for serious Evil Dead. My introduction to the series was actually Army of Darkness and I think that Evil Dead 2 is the best of the three. There doesn't seem to be anything here for me.

I did get to see Evil Dead: The Musical a couple of months ago. I thought it was pretty great.

Similar page, at least. I went backwards in the series, too, but I like them in the order they were made.

I have time for a serious Evil Dead, but it has to be creepy and nightmarish instead of "what interesting ways can we set up an elaborate kill" that the remake was.

I’m one of the few that like the first movie the most. I totally get why 2 gets all the love it does, (from me as well) but the first one was way scarier for me.

Also saw AOD first on tv. Wondered what the hell it was, and went backwards from there.

Friend of mine showed me Army of Darkness way back in high school and had the same reaction YNA did. Was very confused with the contrast in tone to the other films.

Seeing this tomorrow night. Also, it's getting mostly good reviews, which is interesting since the prior one had a bit of a mixed reception. Oh, and how about a few posters

Those are some really solid posters.

Took me a bit to see this thread, but I had a fun time with this one. I think I probably liked it more than the Evil Dead reboot (wasn't as brazen as that film was, tonally), and making comparisons to the original trilogy probably isn't even worth it. This had a fantastic opening sequence and the title credits moment was something I popped for too. I thought maybe they could have done maybe a bit more with the setting itself, but did it ever have this closterphobic aura to it throughout. Performance-wise....holy fuck did the woman who played the mother hit a fucking home run. Enough Evil Dead easter eggs to feel satisfied too. Unique and creative kills too.....solid all around.

I'm intruiged on what will be next for the franchise as this felt like we might end up getting subtly connected seperate stories in the Evil Dead universe now at this point. That's what this one ended up being by the end of it.

I liked it but I preferred 2013. To me it was scarier and I found Mia to be more interesting as a character than the lead in Rise. I liked the final monster in 2013 so much more than Rise as well. That said, Alyssa Sutherland killed it and stole the movie completely. In a way, they are similar with one great performance (Jane Levy in 2013 and Alyssa Sutherland here) and the rest of the cast being pretty bland. But I preferred the dirgy and gross atmosphere of 2013.

A slight letdown, but imo there hasn't been a miss yet for the franchise and this is a solid movie.
