Fast food is too expensive

The last few times I've gone, I've noticed when I get a regular meal deal that it's like a couple of bucks cheaper than just getting something from a local joint. So I just opt for the latter since it's better food and I'd rather support local small businesses. It feels like fast food used to be half that price, now it doesn't really make sense to buy it anymore.

Talk about fast food prices and how that effects your eating and spending habits itt

It's pretty affordable if you exclusively order from the Value/Dollar menu. That's what was so great about Wendy's and Taco Bell. Quality items for just a dollar or so. Get five items and the meal runs you $5 and change. When I ate at Wendy's regularly (2005-2008ish), I would usually, get 2 Junior Bacon Cheeseburgers, fries, nuggets, and a frosty.

I agree, getting an entire meal (with the option to add other items) is too costly at this point so I would just rather go to a decent local joint or cook but I do stop in TB every now and then and they still have a pretty decent value menu that I can spam from.

Yeah. We've completely given up on all fast food chains except for like Five Guys and occasionally getting frozen custard at Freddy's.

The value menu is good for snacks but I feel like I’m kidding myself if I call that a real meal. I agree though, if I just need something to hold me over for a few hours then the value menu is a good option.

Burger King nuggets are trash tho. They remind me of the nugs we got served in elementary school. It's great for kids who aren't discriminating about such things but $1 for 10 is all they're worth. Bring back the 90s chicken tenders imo.

This is a good thread for me to bitch about the fact that all the fast food franchises have gotten rid of their wraps. The Wendy's grilled chicken go wrap was a nice $2 treat, as was the Newt Gingrich-endorsed McDonald's chicken McWrap, but the best was Popeye's loaded chicken wrap, which featured a delicious chicken tender and rice and beans inside a tortilla. And they're all discontinued. BK had a wrap too at one point but it sucked.

I didn’t say Heston Blumenthal made them from scratch; I said it was a great deal. If I can feed my three kids for $2.14 after tax while picking up something out, that is a great deal.

I feel like I brought up Five Guys being too expensive in this folder a year or two ago and @The Art of Postin' or someone called me out.

Five Guys was my 2nd to worst COVID food experience. Felt like they had no regard for anyone's safety. And I can get 2x the food for same price as Wendy's or Burger King and Five Guys might be marginally better (and they've gone downhill enough where I honestly might take a good Wendy's over them) but it's not 2x better than those.

Combo is right around $20 and at that point, you might as well just order a meal to go at a nice premium burger place.

And again, I feel like Five Guys is closer to Wendy's than a gastropub style Burger.

Also I don't think it's talked about how crappy Five Guys' shakes especially for their price point. I can't honestly say they're better than any of the major fast food chains' shakes.

Say goodbye to your 5 dollar meal deals. Say hello to your 30 dollar McDonalds burger.

Can't wait for that to be blamed on the mere discussion of fast-food workers demanding higher wages, regardless of whether the companies actually follow thru with such

I just don't see there being a big market for McDonald's/Burger King/Wendy's meals that cost over 15 dollars. You start to get to a price point where they are basically within a dollar or two of a full meal at a place like Outback, Chili's etc... Not that those places are great, but they would certainly be multiple levels over McDonalds.

Yeah. Even small towns in the middle of nowhere have places that sell burgers and chicken sandwiches for ~$10. Some even have drive-throughs! What's the point of McDonald's then? I guess being open late. But I imagine the Venn diagram for people for want something at 1am and the people who want to spend $20 on a meal is likely two separate circles.

Went to a bar last night to watch Game 2 and there also happened to be trivia and karaoke happening. When I got there, trivia/karaoke host was incredulous about how a Quarter Pounder with cheese meal cost $12. Later that night, he marked out when I picked KISS "Hard Luck Woman" to sing. Does @Mickey Massuco have a cousin in Maine who is a karaoke host?

I don't think 1/4 pounders are that expensive here but I got a Jersey Mike's sub with chips and a can of cream soda last Friday and it was 15 dollars (after a 10% takeout tip). I'm a sucker for there hot subs, but their cold subs are so expensive I'm starting to order them from the local grocery and save 5 to 10 dollars.

Yes, that fucking Joe Biden making fast food joints charge $6.50 for 72 cents worth of food cost while simultaneously eliminating workers and the corresponding wages and benefits costs. Shame on this man! If Donald Trump proves the election fraud and gets back into office, those quarter pounders will be $1 and McDonald’s will staff a dozen cashiers to hand it to you.

I picked up some BK Nuggets after hitting McDonalds a couple of times for work lunch, and I'm completely echoing this. The 90s tenders were awesome and a great differentiator from the way McDonald's did them design-wise too.

One fast food place I haven't given up on is Taco Bell. There's just something special about the cheapness of the way it tastes. Sure, the stuff I used to get for $1 now costs like $3, but I'm ok with it a couple of time a month.
