I'm still on the fence about this. I want to play it, as it looks amazing.. but a subscription fee is really what's holding me back. Really, right now, the only MMO that I am willing to pay a fee for would be the ESO game that's coming out sometime later this year.

I do love that they added cross-platform play, though. That's pretty awesome.

EDIT: I guess the other thing that is holding me back from diving on this is the possibility of a PS4 version.

I think I'm able to transfer my old character to the new one, so that'll be nice. If you can transfer PC characters to PS3 I'd get the console version, but I don't think you can.

If this wasn't subscription based, I'd honestly jump in on it. It looks like it would be a good game. Though, I'll admit the UI looks a bit overwhelming.

It was pretty easy to play with a controller the first time around. I'm assuming that will carry over to a realm reborn.

Well that's good to know. It just looks and feels like a game you play with a pad. Like DCUO.

Still not sure how this game will survive. Subscription based gaming almost doesn't work anymore in today's society.

It is but it's also had a massive head start. Most of the demo who play WoW would play this but would not pay a second sub fee for it. At least, that is how I feel since I am in that boat.

Pretty much that. Its why a lot of games had to resort to the new market concept Free To Play that's out there. In fact, the only reason WoW even does subscription is because people are used to doing that. Its normal. They don't think its normal for Free To Play, therefore they don't do it.

Personally speaking, I can justify going back to subscription. It just doesn't make sense. Its either free to play or lifetime if I'm sure I'm going to spend 200+ during 3 years.

Since its sub, I won't be playing it.

Got into the PS3 beta. It certainly is a FF game.. All of the characters dress like idiots and there is a shitload of boring dialogue. Outside of that it PLAYS well and graphically looks great.

They managed to come up with a pretty intuitive hot bar solution too where you have up to 8 custom bars with 16 icons each. Pretty nifty for a console based mmo.

Guess I'm stuck with the PC for tonight. I did get a good laugh out of how they couldn't bother creating a menu for the PS3 version and just take all the PC log-on screens complete with having to move the mouse cursor.

Yeah, that was in beta as well. It's basically a login through the web browser.. which is nonsense.

I played this on the PC while it was in Open Beta. It was basically, well... Take Final Fantasy 6's Magitek & Empire and combine it with the feel of Ivalace but not actually be Ivalace from Final Fantasy 12 and you get this game. I could've literally sworn this was like a prequel to 12 or a sequel to 6, though I know its not.

I mean, it is great that this game came back from the ashes of the game that was, but I wanted something that tries to be different. There isn't much that this game does differently than word things differently than other MMOs or even just Final Fantasy itself.

I would agree on the dialogue aspect. A lot of times the game would go on with dialogue and while I like story, I don't like things that don't lead anywhere. Give me something, anything when this is happening. Not just drive home dialogue. When driving home dialogue you want to make sure that the person having to sit through that has something that keeps them connected, be it visually or emotionally. A lot of times, you won't get that.

It is a good game though, don't get me wrong. It is just that these are the issues I have with it.

This World is currently full. Please wait until an opening is available and try again.

Is it that fucking hard to make a queue? And maybe if they gave me a fucking way to see if their were openings then I would wait until then.

Notes on PS4 version - http://www.dualshockers.com/2013/09/06/final-fantasy-xiv-director-praises-ps4s-high-hardware-specs-and-memory-confirms-vita-remote-play-and-more/

-Since the hardware specs of the PS4 are high and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will use them to their full potential, there will be a large improvement in the number of characters displayed on screen at the same time compared to the PS3 version, and in the quality of each character. The difference in graphical fidelity will be very visible.

-Remote Play with the PS Vita will be fully supported. Yoshida-san makes the example of gathering, fishing, crafting or questing solo while relaxing on the couch on the PS Vita, and then, when the time for party play starts, one can switch to the PS4 to enjoy the challenging dungeon content on the big screen.

-A companion app for the PS Vita is planned, including a database and the features of the new Lodestone, but Remote Play is the priority.

-It will be possible to point and click in the PS4 version using the touch pad of the DualShock 4, improving the user interface further.

-It’ll be possible to upload video using the Share button of the PS4 due to licensing agreements done with voice actors (Japanese laws are rather strict on this), also, videos made with the Share button will be useful to learn how to do difficult high level dungeons.

-There will be no change in the content of the game moving from the PS3 version to the PS4 version, as the game will be fully cross platform, so you’ll still be able to play with the same friends.

-Yoshida-san encourages players to consider switching to the PS4 version from the PS3 version, because the PS4′s hardware allows for an impressive performance, much better graphics and displaying 100 or 200 people at the same time on the screen. The passage will be immediate and seamless because the servers are the same and transferring character data is not necessary.

-When asked about his point of view as a creator on what he likes the most of the PS4 Yoshida-san responded that it’s the memory size, because it gives more freedom of expression and design. You can create higher quality characters and levels. He also appreciates the wider choices of play style represented by the share button, Remote Play and companion apps. He feels that the PS4 will test the development team, making things easier and harder at the same time.

So who plays this? I know jack shit about MMOs since all I've played if the original FFXIV and Star Trek Online, but the general consensus from MMO fans is that FFXIV ARR is really really good. Personally I really love it. I enjoyed FFXIV V1, but can clearly see ARR is so much better and more polished. My chocobo can fight with me! KWEH UP YOUR ASS MOTHER FUCKERS! Also, among the million other improvements, is the main story quest. In V1 there were like 8 or 10 total main story quests. Seriously. I was level 31 I think when V1 closed on my highest combat class and had done like...6? main story quests? It was REALLY bad. There were 3 MAYBE 4 in your starter city. Whereas now there's 1-2 almost every level if not more. Yeah a lot of them are simple, but it's SO much better and just adds to the story and world. V1 had something like 8-10 total main story quests, it was awful.

The only thing I liked about V1 over ARR was I didn't have to play with other people as much, as I don't think the main quest had any dungeons (or at least not as of level 31 and there were only 3-4 main story quests I hadn't done) and there were very few as a whole. I had to do one to get a chocobo, and I was able to buy a 2nd account and level that character up tot he required level (25) and I just logged them both in at once nad killed everything with my main guy to finish it. That would NEVER work with the current dungeons, but that's probably a good thing. Plus at least now I can just enter the queue to get put auto-matically into a party for a dungeon, which I'm pretty sure didn't exist in in V1.

Also in V1 there were jack shit for class quests. Very few for each class, and I think you had to get to level 20 before they started (and I'm thinking there were maybe 3 per class). ARR we've got one every 5 levels, and I've really enjoyed most of the ones I've done. The Thaumaturge line was really emotionally investing and interesting. And I thought it ended at 30 until I unlocked the black mage job and realized the quests continue you just have to switch to the job. So far the black mage one is lame, but at least it's something. Even the crafting ones are somewhat interesting as the goldsmith one motivated me to grind like fuck to 50 to finish it.

What was I talking about? Oh right, so who actually plays this besides me and what classes have you played mostly? (I love being able to play every class on one character and not needing more characters other than if you want to play on another server with a friend).

Oh right, should say what my guy has I guess. Main combat class is Thaumaturge at 43. It took a while but I beat Titan last week, and in the main story I'm at the dungeon some quests after Titan. Haven't done it yet becuase I want to get to 44 (max level for the dungeon) first. 2nd highest is Conjurer which I'm debating just focusing on and grinding to 30 to unlock white mage/complete the basic conjurer story line, but while it was interesting at the level 15 quest the level 20 quest made it kind of boring. Third is archer because I had to get to 15 to unlock black mage, but actually kind of interested in continuing that to see that story progress. Crafting side I'm maxed out on gold smith (freaked when I got to 50 and saw it show exp for 51, but you can't actually earn exp so I was relived to know I was in fact maxed on exp. Not sure which I'm going to grind to 50 next, carpenter is at 31 but not sure if I want to hammer it yet or maybe blacksmith (25). I also need to stock up on levequests, which I had a fuckton for when I grinded goldsmith from early 30s to 50 in a relatively short tiem.

Oh and I've mostly been playing on the PS3, quite happy with it but looking forward to the free PS4 upgrade. I've heard that one some of the later dungeons/boss fights you can't do it on the PS3 because it won't load the enemy because of too many people and it can't handle it. If that's true it's actually completely unexectple and anger provoking, but I'll deal with that bridge when I get to it. So far the only thing that sucks on ps3 is trying to talk to stupid party members using controller to type. For PS4 version I'm most excited for the Vita remote play. Vi-ta! Vi-ta!

What was I talking about?

Back on the beta for PS4. Game looks stellar. I may go for the full version of this depending on how ESO turns out..

Side-note/question: can someone explain why there are Furry races in Final Fantasy now? Like humans with cat ears and tails, etc..

Because it's an MMO in it's own unique universe and people like playing as those type of things?

Have you been able to move all the on screen displays to the edge of the screen? The three days I could actually play it on my ps4 (eat my ass square enix. I pre order the collectors edition so they send me the early access code, but since the game came out on Monday may be giving me a few more fucking days to wait for the physical copy with activation code to show up in the mail before shutting off my access would have been nice r a be rabble) it was annoying because I couldn't figure out how to move all that, and I think in the beta it was all nice and on the edges. Also the pet action bar when I had a pet out was annoyingly placed right in the middle of the screen. Doesn't do that on ps3. Hopefully either there's a manual way to move everything I haven't found or they put a patch out.

I can move everything to the edge except the chat log. I haven't tried to move the pet bar, but I do see that it's a selectable HUD option in the editor, so I'm assuming you can...?
