I accidentally sold my Legendary gun in Torchlight, thus killing my interest in the game for the time being. How have you fucked up royally in video games?

A couple times in Lunar: Silver Star Story for the Playstation. First time was getting to the battle against Royce, but there was no way in hell I was going to survive without having a good supply of healing items. So I had to restart. Made it back to Althena's Fortress, and then realized before I went in that I didn't buy any healing items, and started over again.

I remember this old game my brother had on his PC - I think it was called Mordor 2; in any event, it was a dungeon-crawling RPG-type game.

I had just recently gotten my character good enough that I could equip the best weapon in the game, mastered a few different guilds, etc.

So I'm using magic spells to figure out if there's stone behind some walls or if they were fake walls - I was pretty sure they were all stone walls, but I was basically just mapping the dungeon out anyway - and I hit the wrong fucking button, and cast a teleport spell instead, trapping me inside the stone wall.

In order to get that character out, I would have had to start a whole new one from scratch, and level them to the point that they could cast the proper spell to get them out. But even then, the original character was guaranteed to lose a bunch of stats because he teleported inside a fucking piece of rock.

I don't think I ever played that game again.

I don't know if this qualifies, but I remember being pissed when I found out if I stuck around long enough, Shadow would eventually show up and join us for the second half of the game rather than saying fuck it and abandoning him.

Knowing exactly what you are talking about, that qualifies.

In San Andreas I had difficulty beating one of the flying missions, and I was about to beat the mission after 3985 tries, and the game froze right before the objective was completed. Furthest progress ever on that mission. Never played it again.

Not really my fault, but i was 5 missions into Assasins Creed 2, then during the annoying autosave feature that Ubi-Soft seem to love, the game froze, corrupted my save and i lost all my progress.

Havnt had the will to play it again since.

I've been burned enough times by power outages, screwing something up and not saving beforehand etc. to know I need to save basically every single chance I had. Take the Resident Evil games, for example...I've gone way the hell out of my to save in times where I just beat a partiuclarly challenging section.

Really, this thread is for capturing the feeling that occurs that when there has been a catastrophic failure to the point where continuing the game seems empty and meaningless. Which is what I felt when I sold my gun and couldn't buy it back, negating countless hours of play.

I spent 24 hours trying to get through Chapter 1 of Sakura Wars, because I kept on screwing up on one scene in which you need to shout at a particular volume (or at least so I remembered) to get the proper positive change in a relationship with one of my companions.

Finally did it, and got it, but that was the one in which I kept bashing my head going "how do I keep doing this"

There is QTE in Shenmue 2 when Ryo goes to the barber shop but you aren't supposed to press the button and I pressed the button at least twice and couldn't figure out why the barber hated me.

While playing Return to Zork on the PC, I would do lots of stupid things like not handling the bonding plant correctly, messing up on the quiz, and stabbing random townspeople.

Crashing my flashcart & losing my Phoenix Wright savegame through 4 of the 5 cases (for whatever reason I'd saved the special 5th case, the DS-optimized one, for another time), so I had to play through the first 4 again even though I knew the outcome.

In Majora's Mask, after you get to the Moon and you're giving all your masks away, the course you have to go through as a Goron, I couldn't get past the 2nd turn so I just turned it off out of frustration. I'm pretty sure I'll have to go all the way through the last Dungeon again and I haven't tried again in about a year.

My God, the sprites are way too big in that Toy Story game. You almost need to memorize the levels. The again, the hit detection seems to be pretty brutal as well which may make it a big easier.

I spent a week during a semester of college playing Final Fantasy 2 and skipping class just to get the damn Pink Tail.

If that doesn't qualify as a fuckup, then, I lent the game to my friend and he immediately, within, like, 1 second, deleted that specific save that I told him not to and started a new game. I should have just copied the save to every slot... ::)

My son recently deleted my 95% save file from Lego Star Wars...and of course I didn't back the file up on my SD card, it was only on the Wii system memory. :-\

I finished the sidequest that's early in Fallout 3, where you have to patch leaky piped in Megaton. I then discovered that apparently the game glitches at this point, and the guy you're supposed to report to, dies. I've heard everything from his character will glitch through a railing high in the town, and fall to his death, to he supposedly dies of a heart attack. I don't know of other characters in the game dying like this.

Sometimes he glitches & spawns somewhere where he'll fall to his death upon loading in Megaton, as I recall.
