Normally a thread like this wouldn't be worth posting, but there have been a shocking amount of awesome games that have come out so far this year and we haven't even gotten to E3 yet.

So far, nothing has impressed me more than Mass Effect 2. The scope of the story, the tremendous characters and the retooled gameplay haven't been matched yet. I just picked up RDR and Alan Wake tonight so we'll see how they match up.

I liked Red Dead Redemption best. I also liked Mass Effect 2 and I'm digging Alan Wake a lot. Someone will come in here and say Bayonetta...but I haven't played nearly enough to know how much I like it yet. I thought Splinter Cell was fun but wouldn't put it up with the top 3.

Deadly Premonition takes the $20 title. 3D Dot Game Heroes probably gets the $40. Haven't played enough $60s to say.

I've only played God Of War 3 and Final Fantasy 13. It's hard to pick between these two because I really like both. Kinda wanna say FF13, but I finished it about 10 minutes ago so it's still fresh in my memory. But I think I had more "wow" moments and overall fun with God Of War.

I have Heavy Rain, 3D Dot Game Heroes, and Bayonetta all waiting to be opened. Now that I'm done with FF, I can start on these. Probably going to give 3D Dot Game Heroes a playthrough before the others though. I wanna play something simple and mindless.

Have a feeling I'll enjoy Bayonetta the most, based on the demo I played months ago.

I have to try RDR sometime but for right now I'm going to go with ME2 for the reasons PK stated. Wonderful story, solid gameplay, great characters, just a superb game even though I think I may have enjoyed ME1 a little bit more.

God of War 3 was cool, and was full of awe inspiring moments, but it was essentially like the other God of War games, with a few tweaks. Modnation Racers is the only other new game I bought so far this year, and although it's fun, I'll give God of War the edge between the two.

Mass Effect edges out Red Dead because it seems a little more polished. Red Dead was excellent, but some of the missions seemed redundant. Plus Mass Effect had the character import feature, better cast of characters, custom characters ect. Red Dead was excellent though.

The reasons for and against games winning GOTY at this point.

Alan Wake:
- The reason it should win: Best horror movie ever had the pleasure experience.

- The reason it won't win: The wife is a central part of the story, but she feels as if she's just sorta there and not really a character in the game. Even though she is.

Bayonetta
- The reason it should win: It was an over the top action game that had a lot of fun to it, had the campy storyline to it that all action based games should, and looked and played like a million bucks.

- The reason it won't win: It was so far at the start of the year that anything after it will and has been proclaimed as better.

Final Fantasy 13
- The reason it should win: It gets really good after 15 hours.

- The reason it won't win: You try admiting you spent all that money for 15 hours straight.

God of War 3
- The reason it should win: Finishes up the God of War series and does it in the God of War style: full of gore, mayhem and carnage.

- The reason it won't win: The ending. No really, because it ended everything and as well know, life goes on. Fully expecting a sequel to show up.

Mass Effect 2
- The reason it should win: Probably the best RPG in a long time.

- The reason it won't win: Its an RPG with virtually no real GOTY competition in its category (3DGH says hi though). The last time a RPG won a real GOTY while doing that? Never. We're not even mentioning the sequel factor.

Red Dead Redemption
- The reason it should win: Its Grand Theft Horse, good storyline, and a really fun game.

- The reason it won't win: The bugs and glitches that are still in the game that are being over looked won't be over looked when its actually time to overlook.

Super Mario Galaxy 2
- The reason it should win: Its fucking Super Mario Galaxy 2.

- The reason it won't win: Its fucking Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Super Street Fighter 4
- The reason it should win: It brings back the fighting genre to its full glory.

- The reason it won't win: Its version 4.2. Last I checked an update doesn't qualify for a win.

3D Dot Game Heroes
- The reason it should win: Its the best love letter to old school gamers and it works even to this day.

- The reason it won't win: Unfortunately, love letters only win if they are the high school prom queen and she's now Miss Universe. Sadly, this high school prom queen is not.

That's basically the reasons for and against. If I had to choose right now? My top vote would be SMG2.
