Did anyone give this movie a shot?

I did, and ugh, it was a pretty frustrating movie. Sure, lots of shooting, but overall, I just found the main plot a little overreaching.

Butler did a good job on the lead role, but as a whole, unless you really like the shoot em up movies, and you really are a gamer, this movie probably won't live up to your expectations.

I thought Cowboy Numbers would start this thread.

I'm excited to see this, since the Crank guys know how to make a guilty pleasure, and I like shoot 'em ups.

I am a huge gamer.

I saw nothing in the previews to make me think that people who like playing video games would enjoy this piece of shit.

It's kinda sad how little faith they have in their own movie that they have to use that line. The new Sandra Bullock has "Sandra Bullock, and THE HANGOVER'S Bradley Cooper." So is John Q Dipshit going to say to him self "I Liked the Hangover, let's go see this pile of shit."

I'm fully expecting a Sandra Bullock/Zac Efron rom-com by the new year in order to continue her vicious, unending cycle of making a paint-by-numbers love story with every new generation of actor

It's pretty much "The Running Man" or "The Condemned", excepted not as good as the former and at least better than the latter. A lot of what made "Crank" and it's sequel so much fun is gone here, instead replaced by a generally preachy attitude and attempts to make a serious message about society, as well as video gamer culture and action movies as a whole.

Acting wise, Michael C. Hall steals the show and seems to be having a lot of fun in his role as the villain. Terry Crews is a lot of fun too, and Kyra Sedwick is good. Gerard Butler isn't bad, though the movie doesn't really ask him to do a whole lot except glower and fight. Alison Lohman, who was great in "Drag Me To Hell" is awful here, while Ludacris gives a dull performance that reeks of him wondering "What the fuck am I doing here? Oh yeah I'm getting paid."

There are inspired moments (including a musical number), but in the end, it's not any good. Sure, the trailer and commercials didn't do it any favors, but I was going to give it the benefit of a doubt considering that I like Nevadine and Taylor. As it stands, it's not one of the worst movies of the year, but it's certainly one of the most disappointing.

I just saw it..I definately see the comparisons to the Running Man and others of the same genre but its a nice plot to a movie that can be recycled plenty of ways until someone has the balls to make a Running Man movie that actually follows the book...but Gamer is quality action flick...
